I was looking through the appointments for this coming weekend’s Premier League fixtures, and I was shocked to see that Roger East had been appointed to the Hull City versus Arsenal game in the Premier League.
It is now very clear to me that our Select Group One professional referees operating at Championship level are not being assessed.
Last weekend, East refereed the Yorkshire derby between Leeds United and Huddersfield Town. I wonder if the invigilators panel, who meet on Thursday of each week, will take a look at the very obvious reckless with excessive force challenge that was amazingly punished with only a yellow card.
I suggest that the PGMOL take a look at this challenge — committed by Terriers matchwinner Aaron Mooy — for it is evident that this referee requires some operational advice to ensure that similar tackles in future games are met with the correct sanction
There is no question that when I was in charge of the PGMOL, East would this week be sitting on his hands for such a gross error not worthy of any referee.
