Could next season’s FA Cup see video technology trialled?

Video referees could be used in the FA Cup next season, with advanced talks currently taking place at the Football Association.

The FA are reportedly keen to see a trial take place in an English competition, and England’s top bosses believe that the Cup is the perfect platform to experiment with video technology.

The extent to which a referral system for major calls would be used in the competition is unclear. It may only be workable in big televised games, but the FA are keen to play a front line role in providing technological aid for match officials.

The decision is one welcomed by You Are The Ref, who have regularly championed the use of video technology within the game.
