In The Ref Show studio this week Alan Biggs was joined by former National Referee Manager for The FA Dean Mohareb and ex Sheffield Wednesday and England striker David Hirst to round up another weekend of football in The FA Cup and across the Football League.
The big talking point of the weekend came on Saturday evening where Man United progressed to the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup beating Huddersfield 2-0. But the game was marred by more VAR controversy when Juan Mata had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside. What ensued gained the wrath of many at YATR with dodgy lines, delayed time and a wrong decision dominating the headlines after the game.
The panel also discussed Bobby Madley who refereed Rochdale’s last gasp draw with Spurs, who thought they had won the tie after Dele Alli went down in the penalty area with Harry Kane dispatching the spot-kick in the last five minutes. But Steve Davies’ dramatic injury-time equaliser earned the League One side a replay at Wembley.
Elsewhere we wrap up the rest of the action in the cup and Dean tells us why he think Lee Probert should not have been refereeing a League 1 fixture where Southend continued their impressive form beating Portsmouth 3-1.
