There is a strong argument that Dean and Clattenburg are the 2 best referees in the top flight on current form. What do you think?  Let us know your thoughts by tweeting us @youaretheref or why not visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/youaretheref

Mark Clattenburg’s performance reminded us of Mike Dean’s display at Bramall Lane in the recent Sheffield United versus Tottenham game when he showed a good understanding of what is expected and was always in control.

Full Time

A full time score of 1-1, and in my opinion  the best team on the field was the 3 in black. The referee should a very good empathy for the game and his Assistants provided quality support

90+3

RCT at 2015-02-08 19:06:13

Yellow CardRed CardShaw’s challenge gave the referee no option but to issue the 2nd yellow car. He did not shirk his responsibilities in law and there was a distinct difference between Shaw’s challenge and the one committed by Song earlier in the game

90+2

RCT at 2015-02-08 19:03:57

GOAL! well there is the answer to my question !!!

90+1

RCT at 2015-02-08 19:03:07

yet again, the optimum position achieved by the referee to judge that the offence occurred outside the penalty area

90

RCT at 2015-02-08 19:01:31

Will we have a Manchester United comeback in the final 4 minutes ?

82

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:55:25

Yellow CardYellow CardLuke Shaw can have no complaints about the caution, Wayne Rooney should know when to remain silent

79

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:53:59

a good understanding of the game showed by the referee with his decision not to issue Song with a 2nd yellow card. perhaps it’s time for the West Ham management team to substitute him?

79

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:52:21

Yellow CardAdrian correctly cautioned for delaying the restart, the dissent he showed did not help his cause

75

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:49:58

another commendable sprint by Mark to take him deep into the penalty area, ensuring that he was only 5 m from the incident and to correctly awarded a goal kick. There was definitely no offence against Falao

72

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:45:28

Yellow Cardfully justified yellow card for Song. Take your pick, was it for the offence which just occurred or for an accumulation of offences which started in the 2nd minute ?

71

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:43:57

So, will Fellaini make a difference in the last 20 minutes ?

71

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:42:55

Andy Murty @minceyhiedman has tweeted that the challenge in the Hearts game should have been a red card and has put a link on YouTube https://t.co/ktbStEvjl9.  Have a look and see what you think.

67

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:40:26

once again look at the referee’s position when currently judging that the ball had not been deflected, resulting in a goal kick to the home team

63

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:37:05

All of a sudden the game has become somewhat routine for the match officials. This is the time when the officiating team need to retain their focus even more because they could be lulled into the false sense of security that it’s “job done”

60

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:32:35

30 minutes to go gentlemen, keep focused, so far so good

56

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:29:04

We sense an equaliser is on the cards ……

52

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:27:40

The referee will be pleased that the game has “settled” following the West Ham United goal. it is always easy to read the game when patterns develop and play can be anticipated

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:23:38

An interesting comment from @garydean51 on Twitter with regard to the Hearts game. let us know what you think by tweeting us @youaretheref

49

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:21:46

Manchester United will now have to play more expansively

47

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:20:44

GOAL! while that makes life interesting !

45

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:17:38

Here we go for the 2nd half, the 1st 10 minutes are always important, let’s see how the game pans out

Half Time

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:07:30

Our own Mark Halsey @RefereeHalsey has joined our Twitter debate with regard to van Perise’s use of the arm. Was it reckless, and should the assistant have informed the referee of his misdemeanor?

Half Time

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:04:24

Or has he risked his match control by not producing the yellow card earlier in the game?

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:03:04

Half Time

So, here’s the half-time debate. The referee’s decision not to caution Song in the 2nd minute has resulted in just 1 yellow card so far, when on another day he could easily have had 4 or 5. Has this affected his match control, has he managed the game as required by his bosses at PGMO ?

Half Time

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:02:14

Half Time

Half-time and some justification in the thought that the refereeing team have been the best team on the field so far..

45

RCT at 2015-02-08 18:00:39

@millar409 – are you happy with that caution Ian ?

42

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:59:13

Yellow Carda first-class piece of refereeing. a justified caution to Rojo when the ball next went out of play, having applied the advantage clause

40

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:54:18

40 minutes gone and a word of praise for the Assistant Referees, so far they have had very little involvement, but what they have done has been high quality

38

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:53:13

An interesting tweet from Ian Miller @miller409 who believes that the referee is being a bit too lenient. Why not join in the debate @youaretheref ?

33

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:49:28

From the referee’s point of view, it’s a case of ensuring that the caution is meaningful and warranted

32

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:48:34

The consensus of opinion here at you are the ref says that a caution before halftime will be appropriate to ensure that match control was retained

30

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:46:18

would you have issued a yellow card to the Manchester United striker for the offence? The referee continues to take a lenient view so far at no risk to his much control. Let’s hope it stays that way

29

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:45:24

that was a quality intervention by Simon Beck, a clear signal to indicate the referee but van Percie had offended

24

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:41:54

commendable positioning once again by the referee, did you notice how close he was to correctly detect that that was a fair challenge for the ball in the penalty area ?

.

23

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:38:49

So, halfway through the 1st half, and the referees decision not to caution Song in the 2nd minute appears to have been the right decision.

22

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:35:12

Thank you to @ALMillington for you tweet discussing the deliberate back-pass. Keep them coming!

15

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:31:21

For those of you who referee in 15 minute sections, the 1st 15 minutes has been successfully negotiated, time to refocus and go again!

13

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:29:48

Athletic goalkeeping by De Gea keeps the score at 0-0

12

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:28:54

More athletic movement from the referee, 1st of all a commendable sprint through the centre circle followed by continued fast movement, following play as it moves towards the corner flag. An object lesson to any young referee

10

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:26:45

Did you notice Jake Collin’s use of the comms equipment “ball in play now” as a corner kick was taken to alert his colleagues that play had restarted ?

3

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:20:49

The encouragement from PGMO is that the game should be managed whenever possible. The players seemed to accept what he did, but will that come back to haunt him later in the game ? 2

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:18:43

Here we go, his 1st real decision today, would you have cautioned Song for that challenge or would you praise him for managing the situation so early in the game?

2

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:16:57

One thing you will immediately notice about Mark is his physicality, he certainly looks the part and his initial movements around the field of play are athletic and commendable

1

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:15:10

Here we go – good luck guys

RCT at 2015-02-08 17:00:50

This afternoon’s match officials are led by Mark Clattenberg, who will be assisted by Simon Beck and Jake Colin, with the experienced Andre Mariner taking the 4th official duties.

RCT at 2015-02-08 16:59:00

Good recent performances by Mike Dean and Mark Clattenberg have highlighted the strength of some of the refereeing at the highest level in this country over recent weeks, however there was a controversial incident in the Newcastle United versus Stoke city game this afternoon when referee Kevin Friend failed to dismiss Jack Colbeck for a clear 2nd yellow. Stoke city boss Mark Hughes was understandably upset as Colbeck went on to score just 3 minutes later.

Pre- Match
