West Brom v Manchester United

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:53:11

We hope you have enjoyed our coverage here at ‘You Are The Ref’’.  Why not join us tomorrow for Champions League action as Chelsea entertain Maribor and on Wednesday when the one and only Real Madrid are the visitors to Anfield, both matches kicking off at 7.45 PM.

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:52:08

His experience came to the fore and nothing that the team of officials did influenced the outcome – a fair result with neither team having justified cause for complaint.

Full Time

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:51:26

In summary. Mike Dean and his Assistants had a very credible evening and, although some may say that 2 further cautions would have been justified, match control was never in doubt and he judged his interventions appropriately.

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:50:37

Yellow CardRojo desrved that as well

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:44:13

That’s probably justified in terms of the share of the play – will someone find a winner from somewhere ?

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:40:10

Yellow Card – fully justified caution for Blind, no complaints from the player

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:37:51

Fellaini may be fortunate to not receive a caution, however Mike Dean is being consistent as he did not caution Brunt …

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:35:55

Good positive teamwork by Mike Dean, a clear thumbs-up for his Assistant for a great decision ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:34:09

…although a yellow card for Brunt 5 minutes ago would have been justified ..

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:31:43

Important for the game itself that the Referee does not upset the ‘flow’ of the game for the final 15 minutes, he is doing well so far and is judging the mood of the game well

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:29:21

Correct Mike Dean – no intent in Pocognoli’s hand-ball

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:28:32

Would you have issued Brunt a yellow card for that challenge ?

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:27:17

20 minutes to go – the game will remain intense until the final whistle …. Focus, focus, focus, let’s bring the game to a safe and successful conclusion ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:24:19

Thanks to @Maddog1889 – David Madden – for retweeting Mick Gilvarry’s earlier comments

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:22:31

Now that’s against the run of play and a great call by the Assistant as Berahino was onside

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:19:08

We predict a caution within the next 10 minutes to allow Mike Dean to cement his authority …..

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:17:24

Perhaps the Referee’s first mistake of the game, as missed handball by Rafael – not bad for 60 minutes work …..

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:14:58

Keep your comments coming by tweeting us at @youaretheref – do you think that was a penal offence in front of the Assistant ?

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:12:49

The 2nd half so far has provided a much sterner test for the match officials and better entertainment for the fans – the game has increased in temperature which will remain high from now on …

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:05:14

Goals can often be “trigger points” in terms of an increased temperature of the game, time for the officials to be wary …

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:04:28

That’s not a bad substitution …..

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:02:00

Will the introduction of Fellaini change the dynamic of the game ?

RCT at 2014-10-20 21:00:21

Half-way through – so far so good for the refereeing team, but I sense an increase in the intensity as the game progresses from this point – remain focused Gents …….

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:55:14

Interesting first half statistic, no offsides, a sign of the times perhaps ….

Thanks to @RefMick, Mick Gilvarry. for his comments on twitter …..

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:49:45

During half-time, why not visit you-are-the-ref.com for some excellent articles.  Alan Biggs’s interview with former Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray provides a great insight into the goalkeeper’s view of the job of the referee, views which have been taken forward into Matt’s new role as a Sky Sport pundit

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:48:16

Just one caution issued, but that could be the most telling decision of the game as this allowed Mike to assert his authority in a ‘quiet game’

Half Time

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:46:52

Half-time, an object lesson in minimum intervention for maximum effect by the match officials. Good stuff gents – keep going ……

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:45:07

Mike Dean yet again well placed to judge the penal offence by Blindt

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:41:54

Perhaps Man United could do with a strapping forward player this evening, and talking of robust centre-forwards, during half-time why not visit http://you-are-the-ref.com/yatr-tv/cards-on-the-table/ and view Alan Biggs’s interview with Preston North End striker Kevin Davies.  Tongue in cheek, Alan describes Kevin as an “untamed beast”, but, as we discover, “he’s not a bad bloke really”.

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:39:03

Yellow CardMorrison deserved that – the first poor challenge of the game

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:37:04

A quality intervention by John Brookes – a clear and distinctive flag

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:35:13

10 minutes left in the 1st half – notice how calm and collected Mike Dean appears to be – using his experience to keep low-profile and simply letting the players get on with the game ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:31:30

Compare this to kick and rush on the local parks when there are no patterns of play ….. who has the easiest job I wonder ?

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:29:33

Mike Dean well positioned on several occasions to make accurate judgments, but the game is tactical and he is able to read the game well

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:26:39

Fascinating for the football purist, is this football or is this chess ………

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:24:04

Half way through the first half and the perception so far is that the referee has had ‘nothing to do’, how wrong is that statement – focus and concentration required ……

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:21:44

for those of you active on the local parks, when was the last time you only gave 1 penal offence in the first 20 minutes ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:20:29

20 minutes gone – Penal Offences 1 Goals 1 – interesting …..

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:16:07

West Brom’s domination and telling through balls are providing Assistant Jake Collin with a good test of his offside judgments, so far, so good ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:14:07

Have you noticed how the referee’s patrol path in the modern professional game does not take them into the area between the penalty area and the touchline?  Do you think this is advisable, let us know, contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com.

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:11:49

Did you notice how long it took for Mike Dean to award that corner … too long ? Indecisive ?

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:09:03

8 minutes gone and more goals than penal offences so far ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:08:25

Now that makes life interesting

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:06:39

A quiet start for the officials so far, nothing to concern them …. no penal offences …

RCT at 2014-10-20 20:02:24

A lively start by the Home Team …..

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:59:19

Good luck guys – may the ball run kindly for you ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:57:04

Why doesn’t the 4th official take part in the handshake ceremony, he’s part of the team after all …

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:55:28

Checks completed – here we go ……

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:54:53

In the match officials dressing room – last minuet checks and good wishes to your colleagues – the Assistants will shortly go to the team dressing rooms to check for cycling shorts, etc

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:52:49

10 minutes to kick-off, join us @youaretheref giving us your comments on the game ….

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:45:38

Let’s see if this evening’s match officials, led by Mike Dean, can restore the Premiership manager’s faith in the standard of refereeing.  This evening Mike will be assisted by John Brooks and Jake Collin, with the 4th official duties belonging to Martin Atkinson.  Martin has had an interesting week with the “drone-gate” issue in Europe on Wednesday evening and the delay in kick-off at St. James’s Park on Saturday.  I bet he’s hoping for a peaceful evening !!

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:43:16

Monk actually used the word “cheat” towards Michael Oliver, surely that accusation will get him into hot water with the authorities ……

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:41:38

More criticism followed from Swansea City’s Gary Monk who described a penalty award given to Stoke City as “disgusting” and was scathing in his criticism of both Stoke City player Victor Moses, who he claimed had dived to win the penalty award, and also of match referee Michael Oliver in making the award. Why not visit http://yatr.wpengine.com/ref-cam/stoke-city-v-swansea-city/ to get our expert opinion from Mark Halsey.

RCT at 2014-10-20 19:37:15

Well it’s been an “interesting” weekend for the Premier League match officials, with some major criticism from the managers.  On Radio 5 Live Arsene Wenger described the match control of the officials as being at an “unacceptable level”, Neil Warnock went public on the BBC Sport website, claiming that Craig Pawson had been “unfairly influenced” by the Chelsea players.
