Full time report

AM at 2016-03-05 20:52:42

In my end of game report on Jonathan Moss I have say that I would have marked him in the Grade A area based upon my observation of him tonight. This is certainly one of his best refereeing performance to date that I have viewed and just maybe he has reflected on the ref cam observations and put in a performance tonight that was overall consistent, calm and composed showing throughout a match control of this game. Yes, I agree with you the players certainly did help in their control of their own emotions and acceptance of his decision making process but to be fair to JM (and we have been critical of his KMD errors this season) then tonight he has shown us what he capable of achieving. This was overall a game of few chances, with a sparkle of Mahrez magic in the 2nd half as Leicester went into a lead they never looked like loosing. A key moment arrived in the 28th minute and the yellow card for simulation shown to Amrabet was a correct and well judged by JM, maybe Adrian Holmes assisted JM here as Amrabet was holding the L. player and then he fell down rather theatrically to the ground in the L. penalty area claiming a penalty kick! and we then saw JM producing a yellow card advising Amrabet of why he was being cautioned. JM has judged foul / non fouls well as I have mentoned in my blog and he has received good support from both Assistant Referees who have judged offside correctly and Adrian Holmes has supported JM with a free kick award in the 1st half when better placed to assist. Final report – Jonathan Moss has led the team well and tonight he will not feature in any Key Match Decision errors.

CK to L. as JM hurries up Mahrez – from the ck a deflection is then missed off the W. player for a further ck to L. as a gk is then awarded.

Yellow Card

Fuchs Leicester correct foul on Amrabet who is getting in the thick of things

70

AM at 2016-03-05 20:02:00

FK to L. correctly awarded as Deeney protests – why do they bother even when the most blatant of fk`s? are referees now ignoring dissent? there does appear to be a greater acceptance by referees of challenges to their decision making process

66

AM at 2016-03-05 19:57:03

JM does not tend to signal for throw ins close to his Assistant but from an Education view point I like to see the Referee signal in harmony with his Assistant. As I think this adds to the teamwork ethic and adds credibility, spectators and players will also look to you as referee to know the directional restart

65

AM at 2016-03-05 19:53:57

Foul by Abdi on Morgan correct and is a correct judgement

Watford sub on 64

AM at 2016-03-05 19:52:07

62

AM at 2016-03-05 19:51:39

Amrabet moves into the penalty area very quickly in that last challenge and does go to ground but quickly recovers with the ball

61

AM at 2016-03-05 19:50:02

JM has put in a sprint in that last L. breakaway as he looks to get into the optimum viewing position to judge any fk offences

Good non offside flag from AH in that last L. move forward

57

AM at 2016-03-05 19:46:39

Yellow Card

Ake – Watford –  16. reckless challenge – also good supportive flag signal from AH as W. defend the L. surge to their goal

GOAL!

0-1 – Mahrez – what a left footed super finish as he rushes towards his travelling fans to celebrate

53

AM at 2016-03-05 19:42:47

No fk awarded is correct as JM judges no foul – ball goes out of play for a W gk – signalled by AH

51

AM at 2016-03-05 19:40:40

MM signals offside – correct decision as the W. player was in an offside position interfering with a L. player when the ball was played forward towards him

49

Vardy offside signalled by AH

48

20 OFF 10 ON  AND 11 OFF 15 ON

Leicester to kick off

Half time summary

AM at 2016-03-05 19:30:47

This was a first half of few chances and a fairly even half. Jonathan Moss will be pleased with his first half refereeing performance there were no key match decisions in this half and the yellow card for simulation shown to Amrabet was a correct judgement. Maybe Adrian Holmes assisted JM here as Amrabet was holding the L. player and then he then fell down in the L. penalty area claiming a penalty kick.

JM has judged foul / non fouls well and he has received good support from both Assistant Referees who have judged offside correctly and AD has supported JM with a free kick award when better placed to assist.

More of the same in the 2nd half please JM as players are getting on with the game and heeding your words of advice in their response to your verbal communication.

0-0

1 minute minimum of additional time

AM at 2016-03-05 19:17:01

44

AM at 2016-03-05 19:16:18

Quick breakaway and JM is now a long way from play should a decision need to be made – fortunately Schmeichel out quickly to head the ball clear

43

AM at 2016-03-05 19:14:45

FK to W. better position from JM to judge this foul – he was side on and at the dropping zone of the ball as players challenged for the ball

40

AM at 2016-03-05 19:12:08

CK to L. good detection by JM to spot a ck to L.

39

AM at 2016-03-05 19:11:25

Further fk to W. as JM remains consistent in his judgement of fk`s to date

FK to W. spray out for his management of this fk.

32

AM at 2016-03-05 19:04:40

A quick breakaway and JM is some way from play as Morgan and Ighalo challenge for the ball and he then moves in to correctly award a W. fk following a foul by Morgan

28

AM at 2016-03-05 19:01:32

Yellow Card

Amrabat for going down in the L. pen area, an act of simulation as he appeared to be holding Fuchs shirt – correct decision

26

AM at 2016-03-05 18:58:37

Credit were it is due a good advantage to W. by JM from near the halfway line and from a cross Deeney then has a good effort on goal which is saved

AM at 2016-03-05 18:56:18

Huth has committed a high challenge on Ighalo fk not given by JM why?

I felt his position was some way from active play to make a judgement here

AM at 2016-03-05 18:54:49

Good breakaway by L. close offside non flag by MM – Vardy tackled just before he has a shot on goal

17

AM at 2016-03-05 18:50:57

Good support from Adrian Holmes with that supportive free kick flag indication to W. Fuchs was reckless in his challenge and fortunate not to receive a yellow card. I don’t think JM was going to stop play with a whistle. AH could have added credibility to this flag indication to advise JM of a yellow card to Fuchs.

Coming up on REF CAM

13

AM at 2016-03-05 18:45:15

Good non offside flag from MM – as Vardy was onside as the ball was played to him

11

AM at 2016-03-05 18:44:32

Nyom comes in with a careless challenge and is rightly spoken to by JM at the stoppage. As a referee it is good to calm things down in this situation to remind the player of his responsibilities on the field of play

10

AM at 2016-03-05 18:41:27

From the resulting fk to W. Ake heads onto the top of the bar

9

AM at 2016-03-05 18:40:41

FK to W – slight delay in award but correct – careless challenge on Nyom

4

AM at 2016-03-05 18:37:38

Vardy again quickly in with the ball and out for a ck to L.

Advantage played by JM to Watford with the crowd wanting a fk, good early advantage

2

AM at 2016-03-05 18:35:07

Vardy racing away with the ball  – Gomes out that was close to foul challenge by Gomes just avoided though, and the ball goes out off Vardy for a gk

AM at 2016-03-05 18:33:37

As we view – Assistant Referee Adrian Holmes is on the far touchline (Technical Area side) and Mick McDonough is on the near touchline

Watford to kick off

AM at 2016-03-05 18:30:43

We are underway

Jonathan Moss - Referee

AM at 2016-03-05 18:30:04

Jonathan Moss has been appointed to referee this game tonight and this appointment has been questioned by some in view of his 2 Key Match Errors last week end and also a number of incorrect Key match decisions this season to date.

However, Jonathan will need to focus fully on this game tonight and put in a top drawer refereeing performance!

Referee: Jonathan Moss (JM)

AR1. Adrian Holmes (AH)

AR2. Mick McDonough (MM)

4th Official. Robert Madley (RM)

AM at 2016-03-05 18:19:20

Thanks to Rob Harris for his REFCAM coverage of Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal earlier today.

So much to talk about in what was a pulsating game that lived up to the pre-match publicity!

Big talking point in this game was the non showing of the 2nd yellow card and subsequent red to Dier (who already had received a yellow) following his pull back on Giroud.

Pre Match Build Up

AM at 2016-03-05 18:17:09

A very warm welcome to all our REFCAM followers from around the world when we see Watford promoted to the English Premier League this season take on the current leaders Leicester City the surprise front runners this season who are holding their own in their pursuit of the English Premier League Champions spot.

Watford were very unfortunate to lose at Manchester United on Wednesday.

They are struggling to score, with only two goals in the last five league games and one of those was a penalty.

Ighalo is finding it particularly difficult to score. He could have had a hat-trick in Manchester but the last of his 15 goals came back in January 2016.

Leicester dropped 2 points against West Brom on Tuesday night and it looked more like one gained by the time their title rivals had all lost 24 hours later.

Ranieri, it seems, never moans he only grins and does not fall over either!

Enjoy tonight`s game!
