Match Summary

AM at 2015-09-27 18:09:33

Anthony Taylor has overall judgement his involvement / tolerance level very well. In the 1st half he kept his cards in his pocket as he maintained match control by the use of the whistle and calming words with players / public rebukes. This, then in the 2nd half when the challenges and intensity increased as the match intensity increased gave AT the extra sanction of the yellow cards to use – (5 for Watford and 3 for Crystal Palace) – all correct yellow cards and were well judged by AT.

The key match decision was the correct award of the penalty kick to CP. Just a point here would be ATs position at the time of the contact, I would just like to see him move wider and create a better viewing angle (he got the decision right in the end but he could have so easily missed it due to his position directly behind play and inside / on the edge of the penalty area)

Just a minor area but worth consideration for AT.

Overall though well done Anthony you were the right man for the right game today, good pre match preparation set the scene for you in your tactics of players management and overall decision making accuracy / match control.

As for both ARs – then they supported AT well –  such was ATs reading and control of this game then they could keep low key and this was exactly what was required on the day.

Well done all round team!

Full Time

AM at 2015-09-27 17:52:19

JB static throw in signal to W. looks so much better.

fk to CP spot on as AT keeps up his accurate decision making.

Yellow CardHennessey CP gk looks in disbelief for time delay tactics. I am sure he knew what he was doing! a few more added seconds here.

92 + 1

AM at 2015-09-27 17:49:30

CP. ck – AT notices a deflection off a CP player

AM at 2015-09-27 17:48:10

5 minutes added time are shown by 4th Keith Stroud who has been busy in his management of the TAs occupants

AM at 2015-09-27 17:47:03

CP. throw in correct from LB. Important judgement here

AM at 2015-09-27 17:45:47

Half hearted penalty appeals by W.

Yellow CardCP. Zaha correct now the 7th yellow card of the game, if you think back to how AT managed events early on just as well he did as we would be looking at red cards by now

AM at 2015-09-27 17:43:17

Good awareness from AT to keep CP moving at a throw in – foul throw in now to be taken by W.

Advantage to W. then free kick to W.

AM at 2015-09-27 17:41:45

CP sub 16 off 9 on – as CP look to hold onto their lead

AM at 2015-09-27 17:40:55

FK signal from JB to CP – AT takes his time to ensure the correct ball placement. This just also takes a little heat out of things

AM at 2015-09-27 17:39:02

Yellow Card

15 Cathcart reckless as the fks / cards mount.

W. sub 23 off 19 on

AM at 2015-09-27 17:37:59

Puncheon 42 Yellow Cardreckless as AT increases his match control by the use of the cards.

AM at 2015-09-27 17:36:59

Free kick to CP and Prodi 5 is Yellow Cardhe has also shown dissent at the decision and this could well be why he has been shown the yellow card

AM at 2015-09-27 17:34:34

CP. sub 7 off 18 on – maybe Pardew was preventing Cabaye being sent off as the free kicks against him were increasing

AM at 2015-09-27 17:33:02

Yellow Card

7 Cabaye no complaints for this one as he has been totting up the free kicks

AM at 2015-09-27 17:31:59

W. sub 2 off 16 on – defensive positional change as NYOM who gave away the penalty kick leaves the field of play

AM at 2015-09-27 17:30:28

17 minutes remaining and I now expect W. to attack for the equaliser

AM at 2015-09-27 17:28:59

I mentioned ATs position and he did not have the best wide / view in this judgement of the penalty kick award to CP. Replays confirm correct as AT took some time to look and make his judgement Yellow Card7 W. dissent

AM at 2015-09-27 17:26:03

Free kick to CP. AT takes some time to be precise in the correct placement – especially good particularly with TAs close by. Good opportunity to assert your authority in this area

AM at 2015-09-27 17:24:09

Throw in to CP – minor advice here for JB. but it is better to remain static in your throw in award rather then bouncing along the touchline with your directional flag out stretched

AM at 2015-09-27 17:22:06

Coming up on REF CAM..Tonight is – Sporting Kansas City v Seattle Sounders (MLS) 10.00 pm kick off. The Monday night game is West Brom v Everton at 8.00pm, Then we have Champions League action on Tuesday with Arsenal v Olympiakos at 7.45pm and on Wednesday its Manchester United v Wolfsburg also at 7.45pm.

AM at 2015-09-27 17:20:42

W. sub 22 off 20 on

AM at 2015-09-27 17:19:40

CP.SUB 26 OFF 11 ON – Change in formation for CP

AM at 2015-09-27 17:17:02

AT again caught in play with the ball as a wider position / view would benefit him. He needs to avoid player space and move wider

AM at 2015-09-27 17:15:21

CP fk spray out to assist AT here from this fk a ck to CP is the outcome

AM at 2015-09-27 17:14:11

W. ck AT mindful of player movement in front of Hennessey CP gk – good view taken up here

AM at 2015-09-27 17:12:41

Long ball being played both ends as ATs fitness and stamina levels are being truly tested today!

AM at 2015-09-27 17:10:26

Another fk to W. as the foul count continues to rise

AM at 2015-09-27 17:09:37

A possible missed advantage to CP. always easy with hindsight but the challenge was right in front of the TA s and AT has to think about his match control here. FK to CP

AM at 2015-09-27 17:07:42

2 W. careless as we have another fk not sure how Nyon can argue with that one, again he has to be careful after his 1st half shirt pull back on CP Player

AM at 2015-09-27 17:05:23

Huth CP. careless he has to be careful in the totting up process of fouls!

AM at 2015-09-27 17:04:32

W. hit the bar if that had gone in then the award of the W. free kick would have been scrutinised

AM at 2015-09-27 17:03:20

Free kick to W. somewhat fortunate in a very good attacking position

2nd half underway

AM at 2015-09-27 17:01:44

Half Time Summary

AM at 2015-09-27 16:56:57

Anthony Taylor has overall been consistent and correct in his decision making accuracy, 1 yellow card so far to date, (1 yellow card missed 2 of W.) with a high number of careless challenges AT has kept his tolerance level high which has been to the benefit of this end to end game. Advantage has been allowed whenever possible and my feeling now is that this game needs a goal. Management of Players consistent and he is working hard in this area. Positioning and movement good, just like to see AT on the breakaway keep his movement wide and create a better view rather than stopping on the edge of the penalty areas and then getting caught up in play. Minor areas but worth considering for the 2nd half. Both ARs little involvement so far, no offside decisions given as yet as both teams are playing a deep and safe back line.

Half Time

AM at 2015-09-27 16:49:41

Half Time

45+ 1

AM at 2015-09-27 16:49:20

From the resulting W. ck again was the ball inside the corner arc? who is checking this? what if a goal is scored? we would then be looking back at this basic law 17 requirement

AM at 2015-09-27 16:46:31

AM at 2015-09-27 16:46:12

Quick CP breakaway AT is moving well towards the  W. pen area. CP ck. then FK to W. AT thought about a W. advantage, but not there so he stops play

AM at 2015-09-27 16:43:20

W. free kick. AT right to stop play so Abdi can put his boot back on

AM at 2015-09-27 16:42:31

On that last W. break AT could have kept moving wide to avoid player space as the ball came back out of the CP pen area and he got in the way

AM at 2015-09-27 16:40:58

Yellow Card

22 Abdi of W. reckless and was needed could you feel this coming and AT has risen to the occasion by producing a yellow.

AM at 2015-09-27 16:39:45

Double W. advantage not often you see this but again in the tempo of the game this has worked for AT. He has also has a word with offender. Capoue 29 W. careless on Cabaye a yellow will be coming up soon I think..

AM at 2015-09-27 16:37:11

Foul throw in by CP. good to see AT be positive on this area, Gayle claims a foul not this occasion though

AM at 2015-09-27 16:35:30

AT is doing his laces up, always best to check this area prior to leaving the dressing room

AM at 2015-09-27 16:34:17

Prior to that ck to CP. being taken AT has a preventative word to players re grappling.

AM at 2015-09-27 16:32:06

Free kick to CP. again correct with no advantage as an option t is better to stop play, particularly at the moment with a number of challenges being made and AT has to look to his match control

AM at 2015-09-27 16:30:11

With a number of incorrect Offside decisions this weekend it is key for both our ARs today to keep in line with the 2nd rearmost defender.

AM at 2015-09-27 16:28:37

7 CP. late on 29 W. AT consistent with a word for this careless challenge

AM at 2015-09-27 16:27:40

Opening 25 minutes AT is firmly in control of this game, he has missed little to date, good movement seen, just the 2 of W. fortunate not to have received a yellow

AM at 2015-09-27 16:23:43

AT looking to play advantage to W. then brings back play as no advantage occurred

AM at 2015-09-27 16:22:47

FK to W. I felt that JB could have assisted AT here with a flag indication, it was if he was waiting for AT to lead. As an AR you have to be ready to assist in these situations

AM at 2015-09-27 16:20:52

5 W. late on 16 CP. AT is remaining consistent in his judgement of this physical contact game, good movement from AT in a W. breakaway, ck to W.

AM at 2015-09-27 16:18:48

Free kicks in quick succession to CP. – in front of the TA and now just outside W. pen area, spray out by AT and a good position taken up for the restart of play, he would have a good view all round from this position

AM at 2015-09-27 16:16:38

Watson returns onto the field of play following as acknowledgement from AT

AM at 2015-09-27 16:15:34

Watson of Watford leaves the field of play for treatment, one for officials to be mindful of regarding his return onto the field of play

AM at 2015-09-27 16:14:27

2 Watford deliberately pulls back CP player No 42, no further action from AT here and the 2 of Watford is fortunate not to be in the Referees Notebook for this action

AM at 2015-09-27 16:12:24

Watford fk AT thought about advantage, stopped play, a word with the CP Player, good management seen here as the tackle in its self was worthy of a calming word

AM at 2015-09-27 16:10:21

Again we mention weather conditions for Match Officials with the playing surface in half sunlight – certainly a factor for officials particularly ARs looking across in their offside decisions

AM at 2015-09-27 16:07:08

Advantage from AT to CP clear signal ball out of play for a Watford throw in

AM at 2015-09-27 16:06:15

Was the ball in the corner arc for that Watford corner kick? could Lee Betts looking down the touchline help here?

AM at 2015-09-27 16:04:53

AR John Brooks (JB) is on The Technical Area Touchline

AM at 2015-09-27 16:03:46

Palace have kicked off and an early free kick to Watford

Today`s Referee Anthony Taylor

AM at 2015-09-27 15:55:18

Anthony Taylor from Cheshire is today`s referee and he has so far refereed 6 EPL games this season showing 20 yellow and 1 red card in the West Ham v Leicester City game.

Pre Match Build Up

AM at 2015-09-27 15:51:36

Overall it has been a good weekend for the PGMOL Referees and we need more of the same please today Anthony. Keep a close eye on the positive attributes that Anthony has displayed to date in his refereeing performances – his management and respect shown towards players (interaction during play) movement and positioning around the field of play, authority, his use of the whistle and advantage and also his judgment of key match incidents.

This Morning` Game and Offside

AM at 2015-09-27 15:45:15

This morning I refereed the Prince of Wales Stafford v Cannock Rangers a First Round Cup Match in Staffordshire. The main talking amongst players this morning and during the game was offside and there was a few contentious offside decisions and pre post match discussion then went on to yesterday`s game at Tottenham v Man City when there were a number of key incorrect offside judgments. We did not have the opportunity of video review this morning, but how long can it be before we have the opportunity to see video review in action at the highest level? used in other sports so successfully and I am sure could be used certainly in the offside situations as we viewed yesterday at Tottenham.
