Full Time

Tottenham hold on for all 3 points, and, from a refereeing point of view, a solid performance, Michael Oliver’s control was never in doubt from minute 1, and he and his team made accurate decisions throughout.

RCT at 2015-09-20 15:19:38

4 minutes added time, can Spurs hold on ……

RCT at 2015-09-20 15:14:37

Once again, accurate and commendable decision making by the Referee Team, this time Gary Beswick makes an accurate offside call

RCT at 2015-09-20 15:10:43

So, let’s see of there is a sting in the tail for Palace in the final 6 minutes …..

RCT at 2015-09-20 15:09:19

Once again, good to see the referee allowing a degree of physicality whilst remaining in total control

RCT at 2015-09-20 15:04:08

Yellow CardLamela go what he deserved, another good piece of game management refereeing

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:58:08

Goals normally trigger an increase in temperature, time to refocus refereeing team – 20 to go, keep it tight gents ….

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:56:42

Goal – Spurs take the lead, Palace’s hopes of a point going for a Song …..GOAL!

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:55:15

The Referee team continue to retain control in a commendable low profile manner, let us know your thoughts by tweeting us @youaretheref or why not visit our Facebook page

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:50:39

Yellow CardBolasie into the notebook, another solid and well timed decision by the referee, asserting his authority as the temperature has gone up a notch since the disallowed goal ….

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:49:08

My apologies to Harry Lennard, it has his correct call, not Gary Beswick …..

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:46:45

A great call be Gary Beswick, Kane offside as Spurs ‘scored’, on object lesson in focus and concentration and correct decision making

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:44:18

10 minutes of the second half gone and I am wondering when if this game of chess going to turn into a game of football? With both teams just playing 1 up front it’s a bit tactical and a stalemate is on the cards

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:40:24

Another correct decision by the referee, McArthur offends on the edge of the penalty area ….

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:36:48

So, 50 gone and all quiet so far, I still think there will be ‘real’ work for Michael and his team to get involved with ….

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:33:23

So, let’s hope for a good second half for the match officials as the first half …

The key to his match control could well be the caution issued to Kelly, wisely keeping control at the latter stages of the first half

Half Time

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:19:54

A good frrst half for Michael and his team, relatively little to do in the context of the game, but a great illustration of consistent low-profile match control

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:17:17

Yellow CardA well timed and justified yellow card for Martin Kelly – allowing the referee to assert his authority just before the interval

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:12:12

However we have had 4 penal offences in the space of 3 minutes, time for a card Michael ?

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:11:08

If you were refereeing this game, would you have cautioned Davies for that challenge close to the penalty area? The referee is taking the mood of the game into account when making his judgements, which is good to see.

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:07:21

Michael Oliver’s positioning is commendable, Kane was about to object following Hangaland’s challenge but thought better of it when he realised how close the referee was to the challenge.

RCT at 2015-09-20 14:02:20

How many times when you are at a game you hear “referee has had nothing to do”, this is typical case of this with 30 minutes gone – Michael Oliver is doing tons of un-noticed work which is ensuring that control is maintained.  For example, did you notice his position as Song pushed forward in that last Spurs attack?

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:55:47

We take for granted how fit or senior officials are these days, a long ball over the top and the officials are moving athletically up field with apparent ease …

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:52:25

I like the way Michael Oliver is allowing a degree of physicality in the challenges, not every challenge for the ball is a free-kick, it’s good to see

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:50:19

Sharp intervention by Harry Lennard, his namesake was offisde as the ball bounced from Macarthy into his path …

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:47:20

…. it’s all about keeping a focus, especially for the Assistant Referees who have had a low-profile start to the game

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:46:05

For those of you who referee in 15 minute slots, the first section of the game has been successfully negotiated …

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:43:00

This is very Premier League with no attempts in target as yet, watch this burst into life soon ….

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:40:49

Good recognition of the first offence of the game, Kelly on Kane

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:39:30

8 minutes gone and still no concerns for the refereeing team – no penal offences so far ….

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:35:35

Good early positioning and presence from Michael Oliver – he is always there are there abouts

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:31:12

Here we go ……

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:28:03

The team of match officials this afternoon are referee Michael Oliver, Gary Beswick will operate on the technical area line, with Harry Lennard on the other line.  Fourth Official duties lie with Lee Mason.

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:24:22

Who would of thought back in August that Palace would have been 9 places above Spurs at this point in the season – it should make for an interesting afternoon

RCT at 2015-09-20 13:12:55

So, an ‘interesting’ game between Chelsea and Arsenal yesterday as the 2 managers continued their “love in” and the sending off issued by Mike Dean to Gabriel caused a stir.  BBC Pundit Garth Crooked described Mike Dean as a ‘petulant school teacher’ and many in the game think that he could have handled Diego Costa in a more professional manner.  One lesson I was taught early in my refereeing career was in order to stop players arguing amongst themselves was to get the ball in play, and this applies at any level.
