Obviously MC will be the happier of the two teams after a commanding performance that takes them a step nearer the Premier League title. As a referee you always want to come out of the game unscathed and not having people talk about you, unfortunately tonight that is not the case for Jon. Obviously I have spoken at half time about the two big key match decisions where on replay it clearly shows that MC shouldn’t have been a penalty as the challenge was just outside. I could understand why some people think LLoris should have been sent off but for me there was an element of doubt as the direction of play was wide on the left hand side of the penalty area and before LLoris makes contact Sterling plays the ball across so there is doubt whether he would have regained control of the ball and was there any covering defenders? When there is an element of doubt you don’t send off, so I would support a caution for a reckless challenge. On the second big talking point there was no doubt, Jon was in an excellent position to see TH Davies challenge on MC Kompany. It was a challenge that endangered the players safely with excessive force and should have resulted in a red card and Jon’s recognition of that challenge was not what it should have been at that level. I’ve been very praiseworthy of Jon this season but today he just didn’t seem on the pace, he looked sluggish and didn’t show any sprinting ability today. He wasn’t reading or anticipating play as well as he has done in previous games. Perhaps he is just feeling a bit tired and fatigued, that does happen but you have to show mental toughness and grind out performances. I think when Jon looks back at this performance compared to some of his other performances he will be very disappointed. He was well supported by his assistants.

Jon at the moment is not anticipating or reading play as he should be at this level.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:27:29
Corner to TH.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:27:10
Since Manchester City’s 3rd goal the intensity has gone out of the game making it easier for Jon.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:22:57
Regarding Jon Moss’s movement he just seems one pace tonight and he doesn’t have that sprinting agility in his makeup.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:21:24
MC18 cautioned for a reckless use of the arm.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:20:22

MC7. He’s scored now!!!!
MH at 2018-04-14 21:15:58
Unbelievable how did MC7 sterling miss that another golden chance.

Another offside correctly given by AR1 as TH10 strays offside.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:05:30
Offside given by AR1.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:05:09
It’s important that Jon Moss stays fully focused and switched on and keeps his concentration levels at a high.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:02:38
MC33 on the ground with a head injury.
MH at 2018-04-14 21:01:23

MH at 2018-04-14 21:00:34

MC4 clearly wins the ball.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:57:23
TH20 goes down in the box nothing given. Correct.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:53:02
It just looks like Jon is struggling to get to grips with the pace of the game.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:51:37
Offside given by AR1.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:51:18
Just what Jon needs to do slow the game down and go in and talk to the players regarding the pushing and shoving in the box.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:50:02
Free kick given to TH after a foul by MC14.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:48:13
Tottenham to get the second half underway.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:46:19
An enthralling first half with two big talking points. 1) the penalty awarded to MC when the TH keeper LLoris comes and takes out MC Sterling. Jon Moss clearly points to the spot after delaying his whistle to see if MC33 puts the ball into the net with Jon Moss in in excellent position but replays show that LLoris catches Sterling just outside the box. I have to say in real time I think any referee would give a penalty in that situation. Looking at it again I did say can the AR help out but I said he was possibly to far away to get involved but also he is not in line. Although Jon Moss cautioned LLoris for the reckless challenge there is talk of a possible sending off for a denial of a goal scoring opportunity but I would support Jon Moss in cautioning the keeper as there is an element of doubt for me in the dogso. The second big talking point once again Jon was in an excellent position to spot the poor challenge by TH33, unfortunately his recognition of that offence was poor as he should have been sent off for serious foul play as it was a challenge that endangered the players safety with excessive force.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:32:35
MH at 2018-04-14 20:31:41
MC33 correctly cautioned for delaying the restart.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:31:13
A minimum of 2 minutes added time.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:30:57
Just going back to the penalty incident could the assistant referee have helped Jon Moss out???? I believe it was to quick and to far away for the assistant to help Jon.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:28:10
MH at 2018-04-14 20:27:52
MC17 correctly cautioned for a reckless challenge.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:27:21
TH wanted an advantage but I can understand Jon not playing advantage and giving the free kick as it could jeopardize his control.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:25:25
Free kick given to TH.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:24:11
Free kick given to MC7.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:23:56
TH11 goes down in the box, not a penalty but MC4 has to be careful when he goes to ground in those situations because he could be asking a question of the referee.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:22:52
Good to see Jon Moss have a quiet word with TH2.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:20:09
It’s ironic that in the game at the Etihad Tottenham should have had 2 players sent off for SFP challenges Harry Kane and Dele Alli and here there should have been a Tottenham player TH33 sent of today.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:17:05
Jon Moss needs to regain his composure and just slow this game down a bit by tempo managing.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:15:56
TH33 cautioned for a reckless challenge on MC4 very lucky not to receive a red card for serious foul play challenge that endangered the players safety.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:14:02
That’s when VAR would have helped the referee out in that situation.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:13:18
In real time that would look like it was in the box.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:12:47
Looking at the replay it shows the challenge by the TH keeper was just outside so it should have been a free kick just outside the box.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:11:30
For TH KEEPER, reckless challenge.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:10:36
MH at 2018-04-14 20:09:57
Penalty to MC, excellent refereeing Jon just waited to see if MC33 was going to score. Reckless challenge by the TH keeper and rightly cautioned.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:07:53
MC looking more solid than they have done in the last few weeks.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:07:23
Good ball through to MC33 TH caught out.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:06:39
MH at 2018-04-14 20:05:55
Jon has to be aware of what is going on around him and not get caught up in play by invading into the players space as he has just been hit by the ball.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:04:50
Corner kick to TH.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:04:28

MH at 2018-04-14 20:04:07
MC7 goes down in the box referee not interest, correct.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:03:33
Free kick correctly given to MC17 after a push by TH15.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:02:43
It’s pleasing to see Jon picking up these small challenges as it aids to his match control with players knowing that Jon isn’t missing much at present and it stops all the little niggles that goes on between players if you don’t pick these challenges up.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:00:54
Free given again given correctly to MC18 after a careless challenge by TH11.
MH at 2018-04-14 20:00:10
Free kick correctly given to TH33 after a careless challenge by MC19.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:59:19
I like Jon’s positioning at the taking of the corner, Just outside the penalty area fairly central so that he has got an excellent view for when the ball comes into that danger zone.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:55:51
First free kick of the game to MC after a challenge by TH33 on MC2.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:53:32

Jon already showing that he is keeping a narrow path of control by remaining central.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:48:42
MC19 hits the post with a volley, let off for Tottenham.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:47:48
Jon signals an advantage to MC but the was no offence.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:45:13
Manchester City to get the first half underway.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:42:56
Well done to Chris Kavanagh for this performance at Liverpool V Bournemouth, as a new referee to select group 1 I thought he refereed very well.
MH at 2018-04-14 19:41:19
Good evening and welcome to this evenings refcam game Tottenham V Manchester City. Well what a week of football we have seen, just simply breath taking from the Premier League last weekend and the Champions League mid week. Tottenham will want revenge after their 4-1 defeat at the Etihad earlier in the season. While Manchester City will want to better their last two visits to Tottenham having lost both conceding 6 goals and that’s the problem they have now with a shakey defence.
Todays referee is Jon Moss who refereed City’s 5-0 home victory over Liverpool plus their 2-0 win at Stoke and their 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace where Jason Puncheon was very lucky to stay on the pitch after a dreadful challenge on De Bruyne. He also refereed Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford and 2-2 draw at Anfield. Jon has refereed 24 games to date showing 85 yellow cards at an average of 3.5 per game and 2 reds. He will be assisted by AR1 Simon Bennett technical area, AR2 Andy Halliday and 4th official Stuart Attwell. Good luck to all.
