Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool

RH at 2015-10-17 14:50:48

Not a classic, the only lasting memory from this game will be that it was Jurgen Klopp’s first game.  The match officials will not be complaining though, there were are few talking points from this game but there were some good Refereeing qualities on show today, not least a very skilful threshold displayed from the Referee of when and when not to penalise physical contact including some screwed midfield advantages.. Believe this, had it not been for the Referee judging his involvement level well, that game would have been a poorer spectacle. In a low profile game this often gets overlooked, but there were a high number of player challenges in this game. I liked also the Referees patrol pattern operating in the left hand channel but coming inside when play was concentrated in midfield and varying his position in and around the penalty area. I liked also his moving in closer to Assistant Michael Salisbury to monitor touchline challenges involving Milner and Lallana. The Referee looked calm and in control, this won’t be his sternest test of the season but he coped very well with what he was presented with. As for the Assistants, they both gave solid performances and although I made a point about Scott Ledgers over committing himself at some offside decision situation’s, I have say in balance that Scott always has a presence at free kicks and restarts of play near his patrol path, he assists the referee well by marshalling the players. All in all a good day for Craig Pawson’s team

Summary to follow

Alli fells Milner just outside the penalty area!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:34:08

3 minutes added time!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:33:54

Yellow CardLucas picks up caution number three despite getting contact on the ball in that robust challenge on Kane!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:30:30

We’re definitely seeing more contact situations, some of which result in free kicks and others which don’t, but the Referee is definitely being tested more at the moment than at any previous phase of the game. Having said that, he’s coping well with what he is being presented with

RH at 2015-10-17 14:28:08

The tempo increases slightly as Spurs press for a late winner!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:24:52

Well the home crowd we’re happy earlier as they felt that a couple of free kicks were missed, but I’m with the Referee here, he’s trying to get a game out this and only intervening when he has to, its a fine line to tread!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:23:05

Stay with us here on Refcam, later today at 5.30 we’re covering the Watford Arsenal game, who could ever predict the outcome there! Tomorrow at 4.00 we’re following strugglers Newcastle when they host Norwich City. The weekend MLS game is Houston Dynamo verses Seattle Sounders tomorrow night at 10.00 pm. Monday night’s Premier League game is Swansea City entertaining Stoke City at 8.00,

RH at 2015-10-17 14:22:16

Milner and Rose collide in midfield, no free kick given, looked a foul but it was no more than careless

RH at 2015-10-17 14:19:48

Good delayed flag there from Michael Salisbury as Origi is offside

RH at 2015-10-17 14:17:29

With Milner and Lallana playing wide on the right there are always challenges made on the touch line near to where Michael Salisbury is operating, wisely Craig Pawson squeezes play between himself and his Assistant when this happens, great Refereeing!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:13:56

A break in play here as Walker is injured

RH at 2015-10-17 14:11:56

Interesting! just as I say that Lallana goes to ground near the penalty area, in truth the defender did have an arm on him but not enough to force the Liverpool player to ground like that, good call by Craig Pawson and Michael Salisbury

RH at 2015-10-17 14:09:33

Important that both Assistant’s stay focussed here, although they are not in the game much at present, the next call could their biggest in the game!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:06:54

so will it take a goal for us to see the tempo rise?

RH at 2015-10-17 14:05:51

Craig Pawson is displaying his skills in this game to keep momentum in the play, players are going to ground but not always resulting in a free kick, and then he plays some shrewd advantages in midfield, he without doubt adding to what entertainment there is!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:02:24

Yellow CardA reckless challenge by Lamela on Moreno earns him the second caution of the game!

RH at 2015-10-17 14:00:28

The style of play and match tempo following a similar pattern to the first half

RH at 2015-10-17 13:57:34

Well no sign of the high pressing game from Liverpool, Origi playing up front alone in a 4-2-3-1 formation

RH at 2015-10-17 13:56:17

Can going to ground heavily following minimal contact from Alli

RH at 2015-10-17 13:54:34

Lamella unlucky too be penalised for a challenge on Moreno, it looked harmless in a replay, not sure if that was Craig Pawson or Scott Ledgers call?

RH at 2015-10-17 13:51:57

Skrtel conceding a free kick in a challenge on Kane, the sort of grappling challenge that he gets away with at corners!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:50:58

Craig Pawson’s movement features a long steady stride changing to an explosive sprint to get him into the final third in and around the penalty area, it see’s him arriving looking composed near the penalty area.

RH at 2015-10-17 13:47:45

We’re up and running with the second half!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:42:20

Not the first half we were expecting but from a match officials point of view the low tempo of play has enabled Craig Pawson to keep a low profile for the most part, just the one caution for Milner which looked to me a case of Persistent Infringement, given his two pervious careless challenges the second of which was borderline reckless. Some good advantages and overall a sound first half. As for the Assistants Scott Ledger needs to be careful of committing himself to offside calls and then leaving himself ground to make up should the attack continue, Michael Salisbury has with one exception looked solid, the exception being an offside call against Kane that was missed in the build up play to a corner, but overall not a bad first half for the match officials

RH at 2015-10-17 13:32:26

Half Time

RH at 2015-10-17 13:31:12

2 minutes added time!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:30:53

I’m pleased that nothing came of that Spurs corner, because Kane looked to be offside in the build up play to the corner award

RH at 2015-10-17 13:29:15

The Referee needs to be careful of getting ahead of play in the final third as he did so in that last Spurs attack

RH at 2015-10-17 13:27:46

Another good advantage played in that Spurs attacked as Skrtel fouled Kane!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:23:33

Yellow CardMilner earns a yellow card for that late challenge on Rose, not his worst but I’m sure that his ‘previous’ was uppermost in Craig Pawsons mind!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:20:05

Having correct myself earlier, its noticeable that Scott Ledger on the near side is having to make up ground during Liverpool attack, he does plant his feet to make offside calls and then leaves himself ground to make up if the attack continues,

RH at 2015-10-17 13:17:42

Good advantage played as Dembele was fouled during that last Spurs attack!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:15:50

Stay with us here on Refcam, later today at 5.30 we’re covering the Watford Arsenal game, who could ever predict the outcome there! Tomorrow at 4.00 we’re following strugglers Newcastle when they host Norwich City. The weekend MLS game is Houston Dynamo verses Seattle Sounders tomorrow night at 10.00 pm. Monday night’s Premier League game is Swansea City entertaining Stoke City Everton at 8.00,

RH at 2015-10-17 13:14:21

Looking at a replay of that Spurs attack, it clearly showed Craig Pawson putting in a 20 metre sprint towards the penalty to award a corner, great stuff!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:12:45

TV replays clearly showing that Mignolet keep the ball in play there

RH at 2015-10-17 13:10:47

One thing in Craig Pawson’s game I want to look at today is his movement in the final third to seek the best viewing angle, unfortunately the pattern of play so far hasn’t tested that aspect of Craig’s game!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:08:54

Well its not the start we thought but I’m sure Craig Pawson’s not complaining!

RH at 2015-10-17 13:07:53

The crowd weren’t happy but I can’t see problem with that free kick as Kane held Sakho

RH at 2015-10-17 13:04:51

Noticeable that Craig Pawson squeezes play with his active Assistant

RH at 2015-10-17 13:03:18

Milner late again this time on Rose, this time Craig Pawson has a word, the next challenge like that will surely result in a yellow card?

RH at 2015-10-17 13:00:51

Well the first fifteen minutes hasn’t been a rip roaring start, just that one late careless challenge by Milner on Chadli which saw Spurs player taken off

RH at 2015-10-17 12:59:26

Craig Pawson operating in the left hand channel choosing to come inside should play be concentrated in midfield

RH at 2015-10-17 12:56:06

Correction to my last comment it is Scott Ledger operating on the nearside

RH at 2015-10-17 12:54:09

Michael Salisbury rightly signalling Lallana offside

RH at 2015-10-17 12:52:34

Milner rightly pulled up for that late challenge on Chadli

RH at 2015-10-17 12:51:52

Assistant Michael Salisbury held a static pose during that last Spurs attack, and then had to accelerate as Lallana attacked the goal line, he needs to be on the balls of his feet ready to move quickly, in contrast take a look at Scott Ledger on the far side who is facing in and on the balls of his feet ready to turn and go!

RH at 2015-10-17 12:48:27

Origi pulled up for a careless challenge for the first free kick

RH at 2015-10-17 12:47:30

Should Liverpool press high during this game, will there be some tight offside calls as the Liverpool back four play up near the half way line?

RH at 2015-10-17 12:45:13

Our match Referee Craig Pawson gets us underway!

RH at 2015-10-17 12:40:13

Today’s Match Referee is Craig Pawson. His Assistant Referees are Michael Salisbury and Scott Ledger, The Fourth Official is Neil Swarbrick
