Bobby Madley should be very pleased with his afternoon’s work – the key plus points being:
- The referee showed a calm and collected approach throughout – he was not swayed at all by player or crowd.
- His recognition of penal offences was of a very high standard throughout; I cannot recall one occurrence of an obviously incorrect call.
- The key plus point was the referee’s ability to apply the advantage clause and then go back to the offence and caution the offender – this occurred on 3 occasions and shows the referee’s confidence in his won ability
Just one point to close, and we would be interested in your opinion’s here @youaretheref, was Forshawe fortunate not to concede a penalty for hand-ball in the closing minutes of the game from Sigurdsson’s free-kick? Let us know your thoughts.

It finishes all square here in South Wales - summery to follow .......
AH at 2017-04-02 15:21:38
3 minutes of additional time to be played - you can cut the tension with a knife .....
AH at 2017-04-02 15:20:41
Another solid decision as Fer clatters Valdes and a free-kick is correctly awarded to the Away Team - much to their relief
AH at 2017-04-02 15:18:10
More commendable refereeing as Bernardo pulls back his opponent in the 'D' - this was excellent as it was way from the main focus of play
AH at 2017-04-02 15:15:21
Disappointed that Marc Perry has indicated a penal offence as Downing did not make contact with his opponent - it's important that everyone in the match official team remains focused.
AH at 2017-04-02 15:10:29
On 3 occasions now Bobby Madley has played advantages and then gone back to caution the offending player, on this occasion it was Gestede. Once again, commendable refereeing.
AH at 2017-04-02 15:06:39
15 to go in this very tense affair as Negrado shoots wide from close distance - once again time for the refereeing team to refocus for the final stages of the game - they would not want this game to be decided on a controversial moment.
AH at 2017-04-02 15:02:31
#SWAMID @youaretheref Negredo is correctly cautioned for a poor challenge - the heat is on here at the Liberty !
AH at 2017-04-02 15:00:37
#SWAMID Here we go - Boro look to take advantage at a drop-ball by some unethical, but not illegal play. There actions were well within the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law. Bobby Madley's seeks to impose some Yorkshire common-sense on proceedings by calling the 2 captains together, but I sense the temperature has been notched up. Hold on to your hats for the next 20 minutes !

More commendable refereeing as Fabio sustains a head injury and Bobby Madley calls for the medical team instantly. - there is NOTHING more important than player safety
AH at 2017-04-02 14:49:19
More commendable refereeing as Mawson offends and Traroe is allowed to continue towards goal; the referee then cautions Mawson when the ball next goes out of play - great stuff.
AH at 2017-04-02 14:45:57
I sense a degree of frustration from the Home Team fans - the game is entering a pivotal phase, time to refocus gents are ensure that the players remain disciplined.
AH at 2017-04-02 14:41:51
First misjudgement of the day as Marc Parry awards a goal-kick when the correct decision would have been a corner to the Home Team - just perhaps a minor loss of focus by the Assistant Referee as the start of the second half.
AH at 2017-04-02 14:39:43
I still sense a degree of nervousness from the players, no-one wants to make a mistake, not that this will worry the refereeing team one iota.
AH at 2017-04-02 14:34:26
Here we go for the 2nd 45 minutes .......

#SWAMID @youaretheref Arsenal and Manchester City feature in our 2nd RefCam coverage of the day, kick-off at 4pm, with expert analysis from former FIFA Referee Mark Halsey. Mark never holds back on his thoughts and opinions, it’s always a great read, so why not stay tuned immediately after this game.

There is a coaching adage in refereeing which states that “Refereeing starts when the ball is not in play!” This has certainly been the case here in the 1st half, with the ball in play for the majority of the time, which in a sense has deflected the attention away from the match officials. Let’s hope that Bobby and his team can keep the same low-profile of the second-half, although here at you are the ref we envisage that the away team will be fired up by their management during the interval, something for the referee to keep a close eye on.

#SWAMID @youaretheref It' half-time here at The Liberty stadium and the 3rd team on the field will be very pleased with proceedings so far. No controversy, no drama, just 2 solid and assured cautions which assisted the referee with his overall match control.
AH at 2017-04-02 14:17:32
4 additional minutes to half-time - it's stalemate at the moment ....... both sides need a break to regroup as a draw in no use to either team in reality .....
AH at 2017-04-02 14:13:21
2 to go to half-time and the refereeing team will be delighted that both teams are remaining disciplined and that the foul count is low - not long left now for Bobby Madley to bring the half to a safe and successful conclusion.

10 minutes to half-time, keep the focus gents, it's going well so far .......
AH at 2017-04-02 14:03:05
30 minutes gone and I sense the game has still not “settled down”, the temperature remains high and it would not surprise me to see further yellow card within the next 10 minutes or so. The longer the game remains at 0-0, the more the temperature of the game will increase.
AH at 2017-04-02 14:00:42
On 2 occasions now the referee has allowed play to continue once the offside flag had been raised - no issue at all with that - provided that the Assistant Referee is not raising his flag too quickly, which is not happening in the above cases.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:55:48
25 minutes gone, how do you think Bobby Madley and his team are doing so far, let us know by tweeting us @youaretheref
AH at 2017-04-02 13:53:53
Fabio can have no complaints as he commits a cynical challenge against Narsingh, the referee again shows good judgement with a well judged caution.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:51:52
Although the Swansea and Boro fans may not be enjoying the game, this is a good watch so far for the neutral as both teams go looking for all 3 points.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:49:28
The referee takes his first opportunity to assert his authority, with the caution correctly issued to Fer. He also shows commendable game management by warning the Swansea players, via their skipper, that the foul count against Traroe must not escalate. Great refereeing.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:45:18
#SWAMID Great positioning by Bobby Madley to correctly turn away a penalty appeal by Middlesbrough - he could not have been better placed!
AH at 2017-04-02 13:39:51
The first 10 minutes safely in the bag for Bobby Madley and his team, nothing to trouble them so far, however I am not expecting a quiet afternoon, given the importance of the game.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:37:58
Still no shots on target after the first 8 minutes, I reckon the tension will continue throughout the afternoon.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:35:43
Perhaps this was the kind of start we expected, it's all in a bit tense at the moment, anyone would think there is a place in the richest league in the world at stake over the next few games.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:33:11
#SWAMIA @youaretheref Here we go, we've kicked-off in the South Wales sunshine.

Bobby Madley heads the refereeing team today, with Peter Kirkup and Marc Perry as his wingmen. Roger East makes his second 4th official appearance of the weekend, you can draw your own conclusions from this, but in terms of providing a referee who is not in the best form a vote of non-confidence, then this is not the best piece of man-management by the PGMO.

This is an over-used phase in football, however it definitely applies to this game with both sides desperate for all 3 points, especially following on from Crystal Palace’s surprise win at Stamford Bridge and Hull City winning yesterday afternoon.
AH at 2017-04-02 13:19:14
Welcome to our RefCam coverage today, we have 2 games for you following on from our 2 games yesterday, the first of which is this key genuine relegation ‘6-pointer’ between Swansea City and Middlesbrough.
