As for our referees:
Harry Lennard – another solid performance. The assistant did everything asked of him today. Well done.
Marc Perry – it gives me no satisfaction to say for the second consecutive week that this assistant is out of his depth. He looks nervy and unsure, and like others who have also been uncertain of their own ability goes searching for the unusual calls instead of doing the simple things well. For me, not a Premier League assistant referee.
Michael Oliver: overall, his game went well. However…and it is a BIG however, officials live and die by big calls and I’m afraid he failed to issue a second yellow card to Everton’s Kone in the second half. Roberto Martinez realised his forward was skating on thin ice, and substituted the player. It was a shame that incident overshadowed an otherwise solid performance by Michael in a game which offered little else in terms of a challenge to him. He called the Swansea penalty correctly and issued other cautions when needed, but I am afraid he missed that obvious second one for Kone which spoiled his performance today.

It’s honours even at The Liberty Stadium today, and Swansea still cannot beat Everton in the league.
Overall, a fair result on the balance of play.
GT at 2015-04-11 14:35:31
Dyer uses his arm to control the ball and Michael correctly spots it and awards a free kick to Everton.
GT at 2015-04-11 14:33:32
That’s the end of normal time, 4 added minutes to play…
GT at 2015-04-11 14:32:34
Stones and Fabianski come together. Oliver tries to play on but ends up having to award a free lick as the Swansea keeper needed a moment to recover.

5 minutes to go at The Liberty…
GT at 2015-04-11 14:27:59
Excellent save from Howard from the resulting free kick as Gylfi Sigurðsson fizzed in a shot
GT at 2015-04-11 14:27:23
Gylfi Sigurðsson is brought down by Aaron Lennon and a caution correctly follows for the Everton man
GT at 2015-04-11 14:26:27
It’s Swansea’s turn to change personnel as Shelvey makes way for Nathan Dyer
GT at 2015-04-11 14:24:44
Fabianski is impeded by Naismith and a foul is correctly awarded to the Swansea keeper
GT at 2015-04-11 14:23:47
Good decision, Michael

Ashley Williams receives a caution as the Swansea captain goes into McCarthy with a heavy, late and poor challenge
GT at 2015-04-11 14:22:18
Play correctly restarts with a dropped ball
GT at 2015-04-11 14:21:41
Emnes is down with a head injury and Oliver sensibly stops play to allow the Swansea man to receive treatment
GT at 2015-04-11 14:20:04
15 minutes to go and we have another Everton substitution as Kone is, indeed, changed for Naismith.
The Everton number 9 is very luck not to have been walking down the tunnel earlier as he should have been sent off
GT at 2015-04-11 14:18:17
Emnes wastes a good chance as the game opens up.
Both sides are going for the win now.
GT at 2015-04-11 14:15:55
Jagielka and Shelvey clash following a bad challenge by the Gylfi Sigurðsson on the Everton centre half.
Oliver is quickly into the action and reprimands the pair of them
GT at 2015-04-11 14:13:56
Gylfi Sigurðsson commits a small foul on Baines which is well spotted and awarded by Lennard and Oliver together
GT at 2015-04-11 14:12:48
Superb penalty. Sending the keeper the wrong way and nestling the ball into the opposite corner.

Howard for delaying the taking of the kick

Seamus Coleman flicks the ball away with his hand and Oliver spots it

GT at 2015-04-11 14:10:17
This time Michael does make the correct call – twice in succession – firstly waving away penalty appeals by Swansea then awarding a free kick to them moments later
GT at 2015-04-11 14:07:19
Roberto Martinez may well wish to consider withdrawing Kone from the action as I cannot see Oliver letting another one go.
The Toffees really should be down to 10 men already.
GT at 2015-04-11 14:06:11
Kone is a very fortunate man indeed.
Having already been cautioned he has brought down an opponent with a challenge which was a nailed-on caution.
However, realising the Everton man would then be sent off, Michael has chosen to award a free kick and nothing else….much to the annoyance of the Welsh faithful.
GT at 2015-04-11 14:03:44
An hour has been played and, with the exception again of Marc Perry, our officials are working well.
I am sure that with some correct coaching Perry’s career could be brought back on track, but someone needs to help him understand the difference between assistance and interference.
He is getting involved with things he shouldn’t, whilst avoiding helping his referee on occasions when he should be there with flag raised.
GT at 2015-04-11 14:00:26
Emnes is the latest player to find his way into Michael’s book for a silly foul on the Everton 23.
Why was there no supporting flag from Marc Perry though? That would have helped his referee ‘sell’the decision to the home supporters.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:58:23
Barry catches Gylfi Sigurðsson with a late challenge but our referee sees it as one of those things which can happen, and I agree 100% with his decision.
Excellent call, Michael.
Keep up these standards.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:55:37
Neil Taylor (Swansea 3) for a late challenge on Lennon.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:54:53
Swansea really do need to up their tempo this half if they are to get anything from this game, but show little sign of doing so in these early exchanges
GT at 2015-04-11 13:52:57
Unlucky, or poor positioning, for our referee?
…as a pass from Swansea strikes him before reaching its intended target.
Maybe try a little wider Michael to stay out of the way.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:50:43
Offside called correctly by Harry Lennard on Shelvey.
Good start by the assistant.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:48:26
The second half gets underway with Everton taking the restart.
Swansea need to hit back early if they are to break the Everton ‘curse’, having never beaten the Toffees in a league game.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:35:27
A good performance from Oliver in the first 45 minutes.
The major talking point will be the disallowed effort by Shelvey.
Yes, it’s a tight call, but there was enough contact in the challenge to be able to support our referee in his decision.
So, overall, well done Michael. Same in the second half would be most welcome.

What Perry’s actions have also done is now make the placement of the ball at corner kicks an unnecessary focal point for the crowd.
Harry Lennard now has to show everyone that he has checked the ball is correctly placed.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:23:03
If Perry believes that kind of thing impresses anyone then he is sadly mistaken.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:20:32
What on earth is Marc Perry doing sending the referee down to the corner flag quadrant to check the ball is inside before the corner is taken?
Oliver took a cursory glance and confirmed the ball was correctly placed.
That is exactly the kind of action which leads me to believe Perry does not belong at this level. He goes chasing petty matters whilst missing the major ones for which is is employed to call.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:17:45
Big, big call by Oliver as he awards a free kick to Everton just as Shelvey smashes in a great effort.
It’s one of those which some referees would give and others wouldn’t.
In those cases I would always back the on the field man and go with the referee.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:15:17
30 minutes gone and a quiet game could use a goal to kick it into life…

Steven Pienaar replaces Osman in a tactical rather than injury-led change for Everton
GT at 2015-04-11 13:10:44
Heavy challenge by Arouna Koné as he uses his arm to bring down Routledge and correctly receives a caution for his trouble
GT at 2015-04-11 13:07:56
Marc Perry calls a correct, yet easy, offside call on Routledge.
Better work from the assistant than in recent weeks.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:06:38
Good teamwork between referee and assistant as they signal in tandem for a free kick to Swansea
GT at 2015-04-11 13:05:21
Good spot again by Oliver as Barry is brought down. Free kick in a dangerous place.
GT at 2015-04-11 13:01:57
Huge blow for Swansea as Bafetibis Gomis has to leave the action with a hamstring injury. On comes Marvin Emnes to replace him.
GT at 2015-04-11 12:59:01
Good refereeing from Oliver again as he attempted to play advantage as Barry was holding Wayne Routledge, but nothing came of his efforts so he awarded a free kick to The Swans
GT at 2015-04-11 12:56:47
A strong challenge from Jagielka sees Wayne Routledge laid out on the field of play. An accidental clash of heads was well spotted by Michael who sensibly stopped play and allowed treatment for the Swansea man
GT at 2015-04-11 12:53:51
Michael is reading the early stages of this one just right. He is unflustered and displaying a calmness beyond his years.
GT at 2015-04-11 12:51:08
Shelvey looked like he had a little kick out at his opponent there. Remember that Shelvey was sent off in this fixture when it was played at Goodison earlier this season
GT at 2015-04-11 12:48:36
Olly will know that the best way to referee games like that is to stay out of the way and let the players play….don’t over-referee it
GT at 2015-04-11 12:47:22
A nice opening and the signs are good in these first couple of minutes for our referee as both teams are passing the ball around, getting on with it and not kicking lumps out of each other!
GT at 2015-04-11 12:45:16
Swansea take the kick-off and get us underway…
GT at 2015-04-11 12:40:58
It’s almost time for kick-off at The Liberty Stadium.
GT at 2015-04-11 12:26:08
As for our referees today, Michael Oliver is back in the spotlight of another live TV game with Harry Lennard and Marc Perry on his lines. Lee Mason completes the quartet as 4th official.
Oliver became the Premier League’s youngest ever referee when he took charge of the fixture Birmingham City v Blackburn Rovers almost five years ago.
The North East based official has since taken charge of 109 games in which he has issued 343 cautions and 15 dismissals.
‘Olly’ is also one of England’s FIFA accredited referees, and is seen as a potential candidate for future top tournaments including World Cups and EURO Championships. He will also be feeling on top of the world today having been appointed to referee one of next weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.
I hope that a lack of experience amongst his assistants is not an issue for him today as we see the relatively unproven Lennard and Perry tasked with patrolling the touchlines.
Lennard is having a reasonable 2014/15 campaign but Marc Perry continues to worry me in what he must look back on as a poor and unconvincing season. In his last outing (Arsenal v Liverpool) Perry again made too many major yet basic errors of judgement, and he really has to show he is worthy of his position on the list or risk losing that privilege.
Let us hope today is the day all of our officials shine and help make this fixture the cracker it promises to be.

Hi everyone and welcome to the first of SIX live Refcam commentary games we shall be bringing to you today, tomorrow and Monday.
This one sees 8th placed Swansea host Everton who sit 12th in the Premier League.
The Swans still have an eye on a Europa League spot and will see today’s game as a chance to take three more points in another successful season for the Premier League’s only Welsh-based team.
In Bafetibis Gomis, Ki Sung-Yueng and Gylfi Sigurðsson Swansea have plenty of goals from plenty of areas on the pitch. They will all fancy adding to their tallies today against an Everton side who will see the current campaign as a little disappointing.
However the Toffees also have goals a plenty, especially in Romelu Lukaku who has already found the net eighteen times during this campaign. Unfortunately for Evertonians everywhere the big Belgian is sidelined today through injury.
However, add to Lukaku’s strikes another seventeen goals from Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith and YATR fans will be hopeful of another goal fest today.
There is plenty on this game today as both sides go in search of three points especially for Swansea who have never beaten today’s opponents in a league match.
So sit back and enjoy our YATR commentary. This one could be an absolute belter of a game.
