SWANSEA CITY V ARSENAL

SWANSEA CITY V ARSENAL

Commentary By: Mark Halsey

FINAL SCORE: 2 - 1

MH at 2014-11-09 19:13:29

This was a game of 2 half’s, the 1st half was a low key affair with one big talking point, which was  the penalty claim for SC after a foul by A21 on SC10.  In my opinion PD should of awarded a penalty to SC, having said that the second half was what we all wanted to see end to end, goals, challenges in driving rain making the conditions difficult for the players and match officials. I ask myself did PD control and manage the game, although we had 10 yellow cards 5 to each team, you have to say yes he did. His positioning was pretty central and he used all his experience to get him where he should be and I have to applaud him for the advantage he played after a foul on A15 leading to Arsenal’s first goal. He was well supported by his 2 assistants DC and SL.

No hand ball on SC3 not deliberate sound decision.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:51:17

SC58 has got to be careful having just been cautioned.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:50:46

Definite foul on SC22 having just given 2 soft free kicks which occurred in front of assistant referee DC who didn’t indicate any free kick.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:46:38

PD has kept a narrow path of control but using all his experience to get him where he should be on his viewing angles.

SC Substitution 7 ON 14 OFF

MH at 2014-11-09 18:44:47

Yellow CardA17 cautioned rightly for dissent by action.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:41:04

Sound off side by DC,  PD correct to play on advantage.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:39:24

This is going to be a tough last 10 minutes for the match officials, their concentration levels need to be at the highest.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:38:11

What a goal…….

MH at 2014-11-09 18:33:14

Yellow CardA3 on SC58 for stopping a promising attack

MH at 2014-11-09 18:32:10

PD has to be spot on with his judgement of fouls and non fouls, careless and reckless challenges with the heavy rain making the surface very wet as we have had 8 cautions so far.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:28:57

The tempo has now gone up PD has to make sure he goes up with it.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:27:56

PD quite right to stop play for a head injury. Referee has to stop play he has no option.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:26:53

On the advantage it was a foul on A15 not A23

MH at 2014-11-09 18:26:07

S C substitution 11 OFF 58 ON

MH at 2014-11-09 18:25:17

Yellow CardA21 cautioned and SC14 also cautioned

MH at 2014-11-09 18:23:48

Excellent advantage by PD for a foul on A23 leading up to the goal for Arsenal.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:22:46

GOAL!ARSENAL 17 Sanchez

MH at 2014-11-09 18:22:09

Yellow Cardfor A20 cautioned for a reckless challenge on SC 20, but having said that SC 20 has made a meal of the challenge. Do not like seeing players rolling around getting other players cautioned.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:18:43

A winning a free kick after a debatable challenge by SC 14.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:16:03

PD coming in for some stick from SC fans but correct to give a foul to Arsenal for a high foot by SC

MH at 2014-11-09 18:14:41

Yellow CardA4 for a reckless challenge according to PD

MH at 2014-11-09 18:08:32

Yellow Cardfor SC6 for a reckless challenge on A19.

Has PD put the stray out to early lol?

MH at 2014-11-09 18:04:17

SC kick off to start the second half.

MH at 2014-11-09 18:03:54

Second half about to begin lets hope there’s a bit more excitement in this half.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:55:32

Very low affair for the match officials to officiate in, PD not being fussy but issuing 3 yellow cards. As the game is being played at a low tempo it is helping PD as his movement isn’t the best but as in every game it’s about calling the bid decisions correctly and unfortunately in my opinion Phil has made an error of judgement as I believe the challenge by A21 on SC10  is a foul and should of resulted in a SC penalty.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:49:02

Half Time

MH at 2014-11-09 17:47:18

Yellow CardA16 cautioned for a foul on SC.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:44:49

At last a bit of excitement, shot by A23 good save by SC goalkeeper.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:43:10

Well done assistant referee Darren Cann definitely a hand ball.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:41:25

Yellow CardPD cautioned SC4 no complains as he is denying A15 a promising attack.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:39:04

PD absolutely correct in stopping the play for a head injury as Swansea fans boo the referee.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:37:19

Yellow CardCannot argue for that yellow card for SC3 for a reckless challenge.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:35:35

As I said before it’s good to see PD allowing for the weather conditions.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:33:03

31 minutes into the game at this present time it is a low tempo game and the only talking point is the foul by A21 on SC10.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:31:42

Better to give a free kick in that situation, foul just outside the box on A19.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:30:51

Advantage played by PD but is that really an advantage?

MH at 2014-11-09 17:22:08

Good position to turn down a penalty claim but there is contact and i dont think you could argue if PD gave a penalty.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:20:42

Challenge by A20 you have seen free kicks and yellow cards given for those challenges, PD allowing for the wet conditions of which I fully support that challenge.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:16:39

PD in a good position to see a no handball offence between 2 players challenging for the ball.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:12:28

Sound first 10 minutes by PD not being to fussy at present.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:11:03

Good offside call by SL

MH at 2014-11-09 17:10:39

Pleasing to see PD didn’t caution A15

MH at 2014-11-09 17:09:26

Correct in awarding a free kick to SC20

MH at 2014-11-09 17:08:43

Why play an advantage on a good challenge.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:07:23

Routine free kick to Swansea, Phil Dowd in a good position but seems to be moving very gingerly.

MH at 2014-11-09 17:04:05

Williams back on the pitch, but for how long…..

MH at 2014-11-09 17:03:01

Early scare for Swansea as Williams has over stretched for the ball

MH at 2014-11-09 17:00:36

here we go…..

MH at 2014-11-09 16:57:13

Lets now remember all them who lost their lives in the war and join in with the minutes silence
