Full time summary

AM at 2016-04-10 15:38:50

What an exciting end to end game with chances at either end and Leicester yet again coming out winners 0-2 with another clean sheet. Sunderland had their chances but Leicester held on to take a dramatic win. Anthony Taylor must take a lot of credit for his reading and control overall of the game and allowing it to flow whenever he possibly could. His man management of this game was very good with good reading of foul non foul. His fitness and movement was good as highlighted in the blog.

Just the one main key match decision talking point was as follows;

25th minute appeals for a penalty kick by L. following an excellent advantage played by AT to L. AT. has then had to move from a fairly static position with accelerated speed to make a quick key match decision was there a foul by Yedlin on Okazaki in the Sunderland penalty area? I think the decision that AT had to make was difficult as he was making ground and behind play as the challenge from Yedlin with his foot came across the chest of Okazaki felling him in the process. But, as replays have shown then a penalty kick would have been the correct outcome. With regards to the handball by Huth and Kaboul then in both situations as I have put in my blog  I don’t think either were deliberate handballs and this is the key consideration that AT has to take into account in his judgements of both key match decisions.

Both Assistants have been effective and low key with all offside decisions looking to be correctly judged.

L. ck despite S. disagreement at this decision

5 minutes minimum additional time

AM at 2016-04-10 15:19:11

89

AM at 2016-04-10 15:18:30

It is looking like another 1-0 win for Leicester they have had quite a few this season and this is how they have built their title challenge

86

AM at 2016-04-10 15:16:40

Bit scrappy there as AT then plays a L. advantage with players challenging for the ball it may be best to just give the free kick straight away rather than risk your control

85

AM at 2016-04-10 15:14:41

L. throw in awarded by AT and then we see JC raise his flag for offside against Vardy – good retention of flag and position seen

L. FINAL SUB

AM at 2016-04-10 15:13:10

11 OFF AND 13 ON

AT will be mindful of time delay here as he ushers Albrighton off and is reminded of this fact by Kaboul

81

AM at 2016-04-10 15:10:30

What a chance for Jack Rodwell and the ball goes over the bar

80

AM at 2016-04-10 15:09:59

Schmeichel taking his time at  L.gk – AT reminds him to keep moving and points to his watch

Focus, concentration now key

78

AM at 2016-04-10 15:07:43

Moving ball at the last S. AT correct to bring play back to retake

77

AM at 2016-04-10 15:07:08

Great chance for S. as the ball is lofted into the far L. post and goes out of play for a L. gk

76

AM at 2016-04-10 15:05:15

Good movement and acceleration seen from AT in that last L. breakaway

S final sub - 75

AM at 2016-04-10 15:04:15

9 off 17 on

73

AM at 2016-04-10 15:03:21

No fk awarded to L. I don’t think JC had the best view there as his movement was away and down the touchline. Just keeping your gaze behind you here would assist in picking up any infringement .

72

AM at 2016-04-10 15:01:40

Huth gets the fk as awarded by AT despite the home fans difference of opinion

71

AM at 2016-04-10 15:00:34

Great chance for Borini as the ball comes up then hits him in the face

70

AM at 2016-04-10 14:59:45

No Sunderland fk given by AT from a close and credible view

S. subs

AM at 2016-04-10 14:57:22

21 & 22 off with 8 and 10 on

65

AM at 2016-04-10 14:54:33

GOAL!

Jamie Vardy scores with a breakaway to make the score 0-1

63

AM at 2016-04-10 14:52:47

In this open and end to end game then AT has allowed at every opportunity to keep the game flowing only stopping play when absolute necessary

L. sub 61

AM at 2016-04-10 14:50:35

20 off 23 on

L. sub coming up

AM at 2016-04-10 14:49:28

59

AM at 2016-04-10 14:48:59

L. fk awarded from close position by AT a pity that the S. player continued to show such open dissent at that decision.

57

AM at 2016-04-10 14:46:06

From a deflection off a S. player then the outcome is a L. gk

55

AM at 2016-04-10 14:45:02

Cattermole careless and advantage played to L. with the ball then going out of play for a ck to L.

53

AM at 2016-04-10 14:42:27

In that last L. attack then AT is working very hard to make up ground as L. break very quickly

51

AM at 2016-04-10 14:41:25

Mahrez claimed a fk not awarded by either AT or JC and then following a very good advantage by AT see L. in a good attacking position on the S. goal

50

AM at 2016-04-10 14:39:44

Great effort from Borini that was just wide as S. press hard to go in front

46

AM at 2016-04-10 14:35:54

Good no foul judgement by AT and from this attack then S. have moved forward at pace with AT showing good movement and pace in the attack

Half time summary

AM at 2016-04-10 14:31:56

An exciting end to end half with Sunderland holding their and making a strong finish to the first half with Schmeichel making a great save near the end of the half.

The main talking point of the first half will be the 25 minute appeals for a penalty kick by L. following an excellent advantage played by AT to L. at has then had to move with accelerated speed to make a quick key match decision was there a foul by Yedlin on Okazaki in the Sunderland penalty area? I think the decision that AT had to make was difficult as he was making ground following his advantage played but as replays have shown then a penalty kick would have been the correct outcome here. With regards to the handball by Huth and Kaboul then in both situations as I have put in my blog  I don’t think either were deliberate and that is what AT has to take into account in his judgements.

Anthony Taylor has judged his involvement well good management of players and good reading of foul / non foul in what is a high tempo game.

Both Assistants have been low key such is Anthony Taylor`s overall reading of play.

45+3 - Half time whistle

AM at 2016-04-10 14:18:56

Half Time

Sunderland 0 Leicester City 0

45+2

AM at 2016-04-10 14:18:06

S. offside by JC correct

45+2

AM at 2016-04-10 14:17:44

Great save by Schmeichel as S. press forward

45+1

AM at 2016-04-10 14:16:55

Ball blasted at Kaboul in the S. penalty area again a case of ball to arm

3 minutes minimum added time

AM at 2016-04-10 14:16:18

44

AM at 2016-04-10 14:15:52

Further fk to L. if AT had not awarded and tried an advantage then the L. player would have been offside

43

AM at 2016-04-10 14:14:39

FK to L. foul against Vardy

42

AM at 2016-04-10 14:13:18

Huth again involved in the action as the ball eventually goes out of play for a goal lick to L.

Handball appeals by S.

AM at 2016-04-10 14:11:13

We have just seen replays on the S. appeals for handball and it shows Huth going to ground with the ball hitting his hand / arm from close range and for me this was a case of ball to hand ball – AT correct not to award

36

AM at 2016-04-10 14:08:38

S. Players half hearted claim a penalty kick for handball as the ball is blasted into the L. penalty area with a lot of bodies in the way of the shot

35

AM at 2016-04-10 14:06:59

FL to L. – AT would have received good support from JC here

35

AM at 2016-04-10 14:06:54

FL to L. – AT would have received good support from JC here

35

AM at 2016-04-10 14:06:06

Kaboul heads over the bar from a good S. move

33

AM at 2016-04-10 14:04:55

S. throw in did you notice AT wait for JC to award – good teamwork seen here

32

AM at 2016-04-10 14:03:16

Huth careless on Defoe right in front of the Technical Areas – FK awarded

29

AM at 2016-04-10 14:01:29

Yellow Card

Fuchs 28 for his reckless challenge

No yellow card for Kirchihoff

AM at 2016-04-10 14:00:58

As AT has played the advantage to L. following the pull back by Kirchihoff then this would be his reason for no yellow card at the next stoppage

24

AM at 2016-04-10 13:59:28

AT plays a good advantage to L. following a pull back by Kirchihoff and following the advantage the ball is then played towards Okazaki in the S. penalty area Yedlin then commits a challenge whilst attempting to play the ball on Okazaki who then appeals for a penalty kick. AT from a good view / position says no. What were your thoughts?

23

AM at 2016-04-10 13:54:51

At that last ck did you notice a good position / view taken up by AT to view any potential grappling

23

AM at 2016-04-10 13:53:49

CK to L. with a signal from PK

21

AM at 2016-04-10 13:52:58

Huth penalised for a careless challenge on Defoe – whilst S. players want a yellow card for Huth for me this was careless and well managed by AT

20

AM at 2016-04-10 13:51:38

We often talk about refereeing in 10 minute spells then AT will be reviewing the first 20 minutes firmly in control and a Yellow Cardcard for Borini 9 for his reckless challenge on Huth looked to be correct

17

AM at 2016-04-10 13:48:34

AT makes good ground to say no foul there to S. close view to judge

15

AM at 2016-04-10 13:46:45

We just saw a clip of Lee Mason in discussion on the comms with AT – good early communication between both officials

15

AM at 2016-04-10 13:46:43

We just saw a clip of Lee Mason in discussion on the comms with AT – good early communication between both officials

14

AM at 2016-04-10 13:45:16

L. ck Morgan heads over – good viewing position taken up by AT

Shade into sunlight is always an added factor for the match officials

AM at 2016-04-10 13:44:05

9

AM at 2016-04-10 13:41:00

Cattermole on Drinkwater – careless challenge this will be an interesting dual today in midfield

8

AM at 2016-04-10 13:39:32

The heat and tension with so much at stake are adding to the high tempo early on

6

AM at 2016-04-10 13:37:57

AT positive on position of that last throw in to S. – using whistle and arm to signal the S. player back

5

AM at 2016-04-10 13:36:42

FK to L. awarded by AT – maybe a supportive flag would have assisted AT here from PK

3

AM at 2016-04-10 13:35:17

FK to S. nice side on view from AT to judge – followed by an offside against Defoe from JK

2

AM at 2016-04-10 13:33:25

Early ck to L. is followed up by a throw in as Anthony Taylor eases himself into this game

Assistant Referees

AM at 2016-04-10 13:32:22

Peter Kirkup (PK) is on the far touchline as we view and Jake Collin (JK) is on the near touchline – Technical Area

Pre Match Build Up

AM at 2016-04-10 13:21:18

Five of Leicester’s last six games have been won by a score of 1-0 and as anyone knows, that’s title-winning form at this stage of the season.

Heading to the Stadium of Light and against a Sunderland team that are fighting for their lives won’t be an easy 90 minutes.

The next two fixtures are make or break for Claudio Ranieri and his men. Win this and the home game against West Ham, and it would then require a collapse of monumental proportions to ensure that the trophy didn’t find its way to the King Power Stadium.

Big Sam Allardyce would certainly take a skin-of-the-teeth victory at this stage as his side look to claw their way out of the bottom three.

Good Afternoon
