Well this summary is easy to write, Anthony Taylor and his team have made that so. A really solid performance underpinned with a good recognition of offences and management of Law 12 matters regarding identifying careless and reckless contact. Nothing of any significance was missed and the performance also contained some great technical input demonstrated with fluid movement around the field of play, taking up of good positions in attacking build ups and being adventurous in the final third to seek good viewing angles in and around the penalty area. This for me is a major improvement in Anthony’s game from early last season, he relys less these days on his Assistants and controls his own destiny in games by seeing more himself! In seeking better viewing angles he’s quick on his feet and adjusts well to seek that all important optimum view of any incident, he also showed more presence in this game today, always looking calm and in control, his caution technique underlining this, all in all a much improved Referee from this time last season! The two Assistants supported well, just that missed free kick following Lallana’s contact on Glenn Johnson in front of Darren Cann, but to be fair he doesn’t miss many! But overall the Match Officials did well here today!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:50:22
Gary Beswick supporting the Referee well there to penalise that careless challenge by Benteke

RH at 2015-08-09 17:49:14
3 minutes added time!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:48:42
The Referee can underline his presence here to bring this game safely home and benefit from the strong platform that he has built

RH at 2015-08-09 17:47:03
Gary Beswick well placed to signal a goal kick and not the corner that Benteke wanted

RH at 2015-08-09 17:46:19
It going to be a hectic last few minutes as Stoke will surely press hard to get that all important equaliser!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:45:12
GOAL!Coutinho puts Liverpool ahead with a wonder strike!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:40:53
With the Referee having a solid game i would think that 4th Official Jon Moss hasn’t had too much hassle today!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:37:47
Stoke and Liverpool make substitutions, the Referee needs to re-focus here as these changes may alter the shape of the game, its never over till the final whistle!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:35:17
With fifteen minutes to go the Referee is in compete control with a great recognition of offences and realistic threshold of acceptable player contact and management of Law 12 offences, great stuff!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:33:02
Yellow CardGreat caution there as the Referee play a good advantage in favor of Liverpool before going back to show the yellow card to Charlie Adam following a late and Reckless tackle on Ibe

RH at 2015-08-09 17:28:58

RH at 2015-08-09 17:28:06
Good positioning and movement in this game from the Referee, he subtly changes position in midfield, holds back in the left hand channel during attacking build ups, saving his flexible positioning for moving around the final third of the field of play to obtain good viewing angles in and around the penalty are, also showing quick feet to make final adjustments, good Refereeing!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:24:18
The tempo is rising slightly, good to see the Referee just taking in some slack with a few more free kicks

RH at 2015-08-09 17:22:44
Yellow CardGomez collecting a yellow card for man handling Walters, who showed his experience

RH at 2015-08-09 17:21:37
Gary Beswick showing how it should be done by signalling following careless contact on Benteke

RH at 2015-08-09 17:20:55
Lallana making contact with Glenn Johnson there, just enough to put off the attacking full back, Darren Cann had a good view of that and should have signaled a free kick

RH at 2015-08-09 17:18:51
We’re on the hour mark and neither team look like breaking the deadlock yet?

RH at 2015-08-09 17:17:39
He follows up with another sound decision against Van Ginkel, who should have known better looking along the line!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:15:49
Darren Cann spot on with that offside decision against Diouf

RH at 2015-08-09 17:14:38
The Referee refraining from penalising in that last Stoke attack, he should have sold his action better with an advantage signal!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:12:48
Lovren still bemoaning his luck to the Referee over that caution, surely he can have no complaint over that! only he knows if that contact was more than accidental?

RH at 2015-08-09 17:10:54
Yellow Carda caution as Lovren clearly make clumsy use of an arm in that aerial challenge,  the Referee deciding that it was Reckless in that the contact was made as the offender was attempting to gain height

RH at 2015-08-09 17:07:24
Last season Anthony Taylor was not so flexible in his final third positioning, i can recall the Newcastle Man Utd game where his Assistant let him down, already in this game he is seeking and taking up final third positions in and around the penalty area where he can see more of what is going on as the very best Referee’s do and thereby controlling his own destiny more!!!!

RH at 2015-08-09 17:03:47
The second half has begun!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:52:19
A solid first half performance from Anthony Taylor and his team, its not a classic game and it needs a goal to ignite the crowd but i guess following the 6-1 game that Liverpool are grateful for that. Nothing much to report by way of advice, the Referee just needs to clamp down on any scuffles, the spat involving Lallana in the closing moments of that half comes to mind. Other than that two good cautions, nothing of significance missed and sound support from the two Assistants, there is certainly no baggage being carried into the second half!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:47:42
Half Time

RH at 2015-08-09 16:47:04
The half coming to an end and we’re still playing at a steady pace!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:45:50
Two minutes added time!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:44:45
A break in play as Afellay fell awkwardly following that challenge with Milner

RH at 2015-08-09 16:42:53
Good to see the Referee using a sound cautioning technique in this game, some of his Major League Soccer colleagues in the USA could take note

RH at 2015-08-09 16:40:54
Yellow CardMilner rightly cautioned for that clumsy challenge on Charlie Adam, who escaped a word from the Referee for his reaction

RH at 2015-08-09 16:39:17
Both the Referee and his Assistant have demonstrated the benefits of quick feet and the ability to make quick changes of direction and then accelerate away, this is part of their pre-match warm up, you can see the results of this in this game!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:36:45
Assistant Gary Beswick did well there to monitor the players challenging for the ball near to the touchline before recovering his position to follow the Stoke player making the cross, quick feet!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:35:08
Darren Cann bringing a timely end to that scrapping for the ball by players with a free kick flag to Stoke

RH at 2015-08-09 16:33:28
Diouf definitely late there on Mignolet, careless so nothing more warranted than a free kick

RH at 2015-08-09 16:31:52
That caution by Anthony Taylor has set a good benchmark on what is cautionable in this  game, unlike the failure of the Referee to take action after Murray’s challenge in the opening minutes of he match at Carrow Road yesterday!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:29:02
Yellow CardThe first Reckless tackle of the game brings Skrtel a caution following that challenge on Diouf

RH at 2015-08-09 16:27:05
Darren Cann spot on there as Lallana came from an offside position to play the ball, his vision no doubt helped by the mowing  stripes on the playing surface

RH at 2015-08-09 16:25:17
Don’t forget there are plenty of matches coming your way on Refcam over the seven days! RH at 2015-08-09 16:24:42
First ceremonial free of the day following that careless challenge on Ibe

RH at 2015-08-09 16:21:58
The Referee looking away and following the ball and not seeing that late careless contact on Geoff Cameron in midfield

RH at 2015-08-09 16:20:29
Great footwork by the Referee to move into position and view he challenge that led to that last Liverpool, corner

RH at 2015-08-09 16:19:26
This opening twenty minutes is being played at a steady pace, enabling the Referee and Assistants to get their ‘eye in’

RH at 2015-08-09 16:16:35
The Referee is operating within the left hand channel and holding back a little in sustained attacking play this means that he is not getting in the way

RH at 2015-08-09 16:13:12
Good to see the Referee squeezing play with his active Assistant and then moving across the field of play within the final third to gain good viewing angles in and around the penalty area

RH at 2015-08-09 16:11:41
At this stage in the game its a matter of the Referee establishing his threshold of acceptable player contact and how that will underpin his control during the game

RH at 2015-08-09 16:09:18
Can’t see which Liverpool defender it was but like the Referee i’m happy with that challenge on Charlie Adam in that last Stoke attack

RH at 2015-08-09 16:07:27
The sunshine is intermittent, this won’t affect near side Assistant Gary Beswick too much, but is something that far side Assistant Darren Cann will need to deal with

RH at 2015-08-09 16:05:08
Clyne getting caught by Afellay, it was careless but Anthony Taylor wisely having words with the offender

RH at 2015-08-09 16:03:07
Anthony Taylor awarding a free lick  following a careless Liverpool challenge by Benteke at that first corner

RH at 2015-08-09 16:01:19
Playing surface and weather conditions are ideal!

RH at 2015-08-09 16:00:12
Our match Referee Anthony Taylor gets us underway!
