Full time summary

AM at 2015-11-07 21:01:35

Anthony Taylor has for me kept overall full match control of this cracking end to end game.

There was a key moment in the 84th minute when Butland has come racing out in his penalty area and got to space first keeping his legs down and Remy has jumped over his legs and in trying to keep possession of the ball has taken a couple of steps stumbled and then fallen. There were little appeals from C. Players and for Remy should be applauded for his honesty in this situation he wanted to go on and try and score rather than put in a foot on Butland to create a foul challenge and win a penalty. Well down Remy you should receive an ward for your honesty in this situation when we quickly criticise player simulation. Would certain other players have done this in this situation? I think not.

Costa for me was very lucky to escape a yellow card but maybe AT was thinking that a yellow may have the opposite effect and he choose to manage him instead. AT used both Captains effectively towards the end of the game and this aided his control.

Physical fitness was seen by AT in abundance tonight and this aided his overall match control.

Darren Cann gave a performance which shows why he one of the best in the world from an education point of view if you want to learn lining then no better place to start or continue by watching him lining.

Lee Betts did well on the SC goal no offside was correct and he will feel pleased with his overall performance.

Full time whistle

Full Time

Costa smiling at the end, but for me he was very lucky to escape a yellow card, we will discuss this and the  key incidents in my summary which is coming up, so don’t go away keep in touch..

Nearly time

AM at 2015-11-07 20:24:00

Hughes wants the whistle as AT looks at his watch

AM at 2015-11-07 20:22:57

SC throw in as they look to absorb time – AT aware of this as he keeps play moving – C. FK Costa has a shove off the ball on a SC player not seen

AM at 2015-11-07 20:20:29

Good advantage to C. allowed by AT – CLEAR SIGNAL SEEN FROM AT

Yellow CardJohnson yellow card and 4 minutes added time

AM at 2015-11-07 20:18:32

What were your thoughts on the Butland challenge? would you have awarded a penalty kick?

let us know by joining in on Twitter @youaretheref or e-mail at

AM at 2015-11-07 20:16:40

Butland out and puts in a challenge IN HIS PENALTY AREA which sees Remy jump over him and then loose his footing and the ball no penalty kick is awarded to C. Little appeals from players either.

AM at 2015-11-07 20:13:42

Costa moaning again as Shawcross claims a slight injury to delay matters. I am sure AT will add time on for this delay

AM at 2015-11-07 20:11:52

SC sub – 22 off 18 on as SC look to defend their lead in this game can they hold on?

DC good preventative action to avoid a quick ck before referee ready

AM at 2015-11-07 20:09:56

Pieters reckless for me and no yellow seen here as Terry comes forward to offer AT some advice and to ask why no yellow?

AM at 2015-11-07 20:08:14

SC sub 16 off 14 on

AM at 2015-11-07 20:07:24

AT again invading player space in that last C. move. Dancing around the ball.

C. sub 7 off 18 on as C. look with Remy now on for a goal.

Can Costa stay card free tonight?

AM at 2015-11-07 20:04:36

Ramires was offside from that last C. attack and DC has awarded a gk to SC as the ball leaves the field of play and over and out over the goal line.

Costa is late again and for me there was an opportunity for AT at a stoppage to speak with Costa as the foul count against him is rising..

AM at 2015-11-07 20:00:57

C. subs 6 off 8 on and 17 off 4 on

S. sub 27 off and 20

AM at 2015-11-07 19:57:16

Pedro hits the post as AT keeps close to play to make any decision if needed

Fair of foul challenge?

AM at 2015-11-07 19:54:48

AM at 2015-11-07 19:50:18

The under lying uneasiness continues as AT brings in both captains for them to assist him in his player management and calm matters – good tactic from AT who does not want to loose control with a flurry of cards

AM at 2015-11-07 19:47:06

AT will now need to up his focus and mental and physical concentration levels as Chelsea look to get back in this game.

Yellow CardShawcross reckless on Costa as the under – lying battle between these 2 continues..

AM at 2015-11-07 19:44:15

1-0 Arnautovic makes it 1-0 game on now

Darren Cann

AM at 2015-11-07 19:42:24

On that last Chelsea attack did you notice DC`s movement in field and sideways very credible.

Whelan reckless and fortunate not see yellow here – no need for this type of challenge – Johnson then careless and AT awards fk . Tempo up and for me this goes back to Whelan`s challenge

AM at 2015-11-07 19:38:52

AT close to play as Hazard moves the ball around and past him – this can happen on occasions particularly with AT`s close proximity to play

AM at 2015-11-07 19:37:05

No free kick against Costa as he looks to AT in amazement – AT has a really good position to say no and on we go – Advantage to SC good signal and movement from AT

2nd half unerway

AM at 2015-11-07 19:34:41

Stoke City to kick off

Half time summary

AM at 2015-11-07 19:31:31

Interesting game this could go either way as both teams look to cancel each other out – clearly shawcross has a role to play on Costa for me it looks at half time as though Stoke will be happy with a draw. Chelsea seem to be a different team tonight – there is not all the focus on Mourinho tonight and his theatre actions in the technical area – maybe his players feel more relaxed.

As for our Match Referee then he is well in control of this game and his 2 yellow cards  – 1 for each team has come at a good time. Good alertness and awareness seen to judge non freekicks and also free kicks awarded, nice empathy seen to this game, not looking for incidents or over reacting to decisions but they are coming to him and he is then making his decision.

Darren Cann has shown us tonight why he is a world class AR and Lee Betts is following DC well ,just one area for Lee to consider is his gaze – keeping all players in view particularly when play moves away and there is potential of a flash point.

Interesting 2nd half awaits us…

Half time

AM at 2015-11-07 19:22:06

Half Time

Willian injury

AM at 2015-11-07 19:21:28

Fair play SC putting the ball out of play as there is clearly an injury to this player – this keeps player respect towards each other good and is good for the game despite Mark Hughes thoughts to Craig Pawson who tells Hughes to calm down

4 minutes added time

AM at 2015-11-07 19:18:26

Darren Cann spot on gk to C. Sharqiri wants a ck – Cann gets away along the touchline to avoid a confrontation – good management seen here

AM at 2015-11-07 19:15:32

fk to C. foul oon Costa flag from LB as AT raises his flag to signal a fk

Just to clarify Pieters SC blood injury – AT has a check – prior to a ck shawcross and terry grappling – AT has a word still continuing though

AM at 2015-11-07 19:03:28

Costa looked to be late on the SC defender no free kick – Lee Betts needs to keep his gaze on this area as he turned following the ball – good lining here is to be aware and keep an eye on player movement behind you!

AM at 2015-11-07 19:01:17

AT has made a good opening – he looks confident, calm and composed together with high energy levels – free kick to C. correct foul on Pedro

SC – gk – Cann awards from bang on the goal line effective lining and how AT must be pleased to have one of our best ARs with him tonight!

AM at 2015-11-07 18:54:10

Whelan handball no complaints there did you notice on the replay how he made his outstretched arm to block the ball – good offside flag from Betts – C. offside

AM at 2015-11-07 18:52:14

FK to Chelsea good close view from AT here to award – 2 non fk awards – I Chelsea and I Stoke – AT close to be confident in his detection

AM at 2015-11-07 18:49:41

Costa off boot change good to see 4th official Craig Pawson checking all ok before Costa`s return

Costa injury into the back of Shawcross

AM at 2015-11-07 18:47:41

Good movement along the touchline by Darren Cann with a good viewing angle achieved- followed by offside against Walters SC

AM at 2015-11-07 18:44:59

Quick breakaway by C. sees AT moving quickly with a good viewing angle to view

AM at 2015-11-07 18:43:43

Blood injury and the SC player leaves the field of play – good support from Cann fk to SC

Pre match handshakes – I MINUTE SILENCE

AM at 2015-11-07 18:29:12

I minute silence in the memory of those who lost their lives in the line of duty – to give us all the life that we are fortunate enough to have today.

Anthony Taylor – Match Referee

AM at 2015-11-07 18:24:46

Anthony Taylor is clearly a referee with potential to progress further towards the top level however he can be inconsistent and have an off day. As we saw last week at West Bromwich Albion v Leicester City when 2 penalty kicks were missed by Anthony he was in a good position to make these judgments and he needs to be totally aware, have full concentration and to be prepared to make these key match decisions.
