Full Time

The fine margins of professional sport have been highlighted by the match official’s decision to allow the Sporting KC first goal when Dwyer was offside.  Very unfortunate for the Assistant Referee, but his error means a loss for Orlando.  Ok, so on the balance of play, they didn’t deserve a point, but that’s not the issue here.  Focus and concentration are required at all times, especially by the Assistant Referees, and I’m afraid Corey Rockwell has let the refereeing team down with a lapse in focus and an incorrect decision.

Not sure I am happy with the referee tweeting away on his whistle to control a restart – talk to the players why don’t you ?

88

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:47:05

2 minutes plus additional time to see the game safely home ….

83

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:42:19

Yellow CardPoor challenge by Coelho, he may have won the ball, but …..

77

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:38:29

GOAL! Peterson thumps home a diving header and take the lead they deserve – but at what cost Mr Assistant Referee

75

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:36:52

Let’s hope it does not effect the outcome of the game

74

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:36:00

Sorry, key match error by the nearside Assistant Corey Rockwell, replays show that Dywer is offside as the ball is headed across to him.  It’s a close call, but one which should be given correctly at this level of football

73

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:33:05

GOAL!

Dywer heads home to level the score – but offside ?

70

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:30:11

20 minutes to go and I don’t think for one moment that the referee will change his patrol path – I still fear that this may cost him !

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:27:45

Thanks to @2wheels04 for your tweet, keep them coming please

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:26:17

GOAL!

The ultimate sucker punch at Larin bundles the ball over the line from a matter of inches !

60

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:18:29

Dare I say it – Mickey Mouse defending from Orlando – a goal must be on the cards …

58

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:16:40

How many more chances to Kansas need to score ……

55

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:13:58

Another quality offside decision by Jeremy Hanson – he’s having a very good game.

51

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:11:27

Good refereeing on that occasion, staying in the vicinity of both injured players until the ball was passed out of play

49

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:09:13

Yellow CardMedranda is the first name in the referee’s book.

47

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:08:02

A poor decision by the referee, how can that be an intentional ‘hand-ball’ when the ball traveled such a short distance at speed – luckily nothing came from the resultant free-kick.

46

RCT at 2016-05-15 22:03:32

The second half is underway …..

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:56:10

Half Time

The referee should take heed of his Assistant’s sprinting ability, highlighted by the decision given by Assistant Hanson when he was directly in line to disallow a goal for offside in the 42nd minute

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:53:38

Half Time

So, one question for you, is the referee in control of the game, undoubtedly yes.  Therefore why should I be concerned about his positioning?  Yes, I reckon so, I can just envisage a key incident in the second half deep in the referee’s quarter when he is not in the optimum position to make the correct call.

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:49:25

Half Time

So, 16 shots for the Home Team, who have dominated, and no goals to show for their efforts! Surely Sporting SC will break the deadlock soon.

44

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:47:07

Orlando continue to live a charmed life as Kansas fail to capitalise.  Nothing the match officials can do to stop the game (head injuries apart) if the players decide to continue when a player goes down injured – although it can often cause ill feeling!

42

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:43:50

First major call for the match officials, Dywer offside albiet marginally, that looked a great call from Assistant Referee Jeremy Hanson

38

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:39:32

It’s very quiet on our twitter feed this evening @youaretheref – let us have your opinion on all matters refereeing !

33

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:34:45

Surely Sporting SC must open the scoring soon, 11 shots on goal so far and nothing to show for their domination.

30

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:31:31

Having been very critical of his work-rate and positional play, I should counter balance this with the observation that the match remains very much in the referee’s control as we move in to the final 15 minutes of the first half.

27

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:28:50

That was better movement by the referee as Sporting KC broke, but he still ended up in the ‘D’ !

25

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:25:04

In fairness the referee has missed nothing so far, but his lack of movement and wayward positional play is giving me cause for concern.

23

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:23:44

Whilst i appreciate that the conditions are warm,  I haven’t seen a significant sprint by the referee as yet. He’s not exactly Mark Clattenburg with his dynamic movement!

21

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:20:55

I’m just admiring the playing surface! if you have been refereeing on the local Park this weekend, are you jealous? I certainly am!

15

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:17:02

I have a concern re the referees patrol path here, he is in danger of being caught ‘amongst play’ in the areas between the ‘D’ and the centre circle, leaving him in danger of being  on the ‘wrong side of the ball’, thus leaving him cut-off from play when the ball moves into the referee’s quarter. Let’s keep a close eye on this!

9

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:10:54

Ahh – not pleased to see the Referee in a position just outside the ‘D’ outside the penalty area, he has to take action to move away to avoid colliding with players in this key area of the field, that’s worth keeping an eye on.

6

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:07:16

The match referee, Ismail Elfath, appears relaxed in his work so far, although I am not convinced there was a penal offence in the centre circle when he gave the advantage signal

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:04:40

Both teams showing attacking prowess early in the game, which is good to see!

3

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:02:55

Good movement by Jeremy Hanson on the far touchline as the Home Team develop a fast break

RCT at 2016-05-15 21:00:10

Away we go, good luck to the Match Officials ….

Pre-Match

RCT at 2016-05-15 20:59:18

Very close to kick-ff now here in Kansas – would you believe that they have sold out the last 75 consecutive games !

RCT at 2016-05-15 20:52:23

Dominic Dwyer is Kansas City’s leading scorer and he will be looking to extend his season tally of 4 this evening, he wears #14 for the Home Team

RCT at 2016-05-15 20:46:50

Orlando will be looking for Kaka to produce some Disney like magic from his creative central role to leading scorers Cyle Larin and Kevin Molino

RCT at 2016-05-15 20:43:23

Both teams have are not in the best of form, 4 losses and 2 defeats for Kansas in the last 6 games, just 1 win in the same period for Orlando.  Kansas will be hoping that this evening, as Dorothy from Kansas in the Wizard of Oz once said, “there’s no place like home!”

Pre-Match

RCT at 2016-05-15 20:25:20

Much discussion regarding the excellent offside decision given by Darren Cann during the Sheffield Wednesday versus Brighton and Hove Albion game, what a brave decision it was, proving what a quality Assistant Referee he is.

Pre-Match

RCT at 2016-05-15 20:23:23

It’s generally been a good series of games so far in the English Football League play-offs, 1 or 2 indifferent decisions, especially a poor offside flag in the Barnsley versus Millwall fixture, but apart from that things are going smoothly.

RCT at 2016-05-15 20:22:07

Thank you for your recent tweets to @youaretheref – one thing is sure, you are all very passionate about refereeing, your teams and football in genera, which is great to see
