Final Analysis

AM at 2016-05-01 18:36:08

Southampton ended the game as 4-2 winners in a game were in the 2nd half they went on to control and dominate and we saw Mane score a hatrick. There were no key match decisions to note and Andre overall has gone about his business in a quiet and unfussy manner. Good judgement of foul / non foul and he has given this game every opportunity as the players were happy to get on with the game and they in turn showed a good respect to Andre. I just felt as the game wore on that Andre looked a bit laboured but having said that he missed little and played some good advantages which were to the benefit of this game and started as early as the 5th minute.

Peter Kirkup has had a fairly quiet game overall, low key and exactly what was required.

John Brooks as we discussed at half time had the missed fk directly in front of him which was not detected and also the missed Mane offside, which could have been crucial had Saints gone on to score.. He did however correctly identified Long offside early on and in the 2nd half he went on to redeem himself with a low key and faultless half.

Martina careless on MC player and a delay by Andre in getting in to calm matters sees Nasri and Martina getting involved with a bit of shoving. In these situations it is good for a referee to get in early to the scene to prevent matters escalating

Saints sub Tadic off Rodriguez on

AM at 2016-05-01 18:11:50

Big appeals for handball to S. not given by Andre who seemed to have a good view on this one

AM at 2016-05-01 18:10:54

Demichellis comes in with a reckless challenge in front of the technical areas and I am surprised that no yellow card is shown to him for this tackle

AM at 2016-05-01 18:06:55

Iheahacho makes it 4-2 what a strike to keep Man City in the game

AM at 2016-05-01 18:05:05

Final 15 minutes

AM at 2016-05-01 18:04:33

As we move into the final 15 minutes it will be key for Andre to bring this to a safe conclusion he is just looking a bit lethargic at the moment. I would like to see his body language open up more and inject a bit more movement as play moves forward, particularly down the wide channels.

Saints sub

AM at 2016-05-01 18:01:25

Ward Prowse on for Davis in the 72nd minute – Ward Prowse is a quick and dynamic player who will bolster the Saints midfield area

AM at 2016-05-01 17:57:00

4-1 Mane scores and replay confirms that Van Dijk won the ball cleanly in the build up to the S. 4th goal

AM at 2016-05-01 17:54:56

Prior to the S. ck  Andre has moved in to have with players hoping to prevent any grappling

AM at 2016-05-01 17:53:38

FK to S. and Andre whilst missing very little is just looking a bit laboured at the moment.

MC sub

AM at 2016-05-01 17:52:22

Delph off and  Navas now on – subs bring changes in patterns of play and this latest sub will interesting to see how MC look to get back in this game

MC fk good to see Andre ensuring that the defensive wall is back 9.15 metres

MC sub

AM at 2016-05-01 17:45:23

Mane what a finish to make 3-1 to The Saints

AM at 2016-05-01 17:43:10

Yellow CardTadic pulls back Zabeleta good supporting flag signal from JB as well – no complaints for that yellow and this is an area that the Premier Referees have overall been consistent

AM at 2016-05-01 17:41:08

Foul on Long Correct

AM at 2016-05-01 17:40:36

No fk to S and that looked to be correct despite half hearted appeals

AM at 2016-05-01 17:38:58

In that last MC attack then Andre has shown a good awareness as play quickly moves forward

AM at 2016-05-01 17:35:11

S. fk good calm judgement from Andre

Half time summary

AM at 2016-05-01 17:24:55

Southampton looked to be well in control of this game 2-0 up 2 minutes to go and Man City score to make it 2-1 and a very different 2nd half now awaits us with this goal scored just before half time.

Andre has gone about his business in a quiet and unfussy manner. Good judgement of foul / non foul and he is giving this game every opportunity as the players are getting on with the game and they in turn are showing full respect to Andre. Also Andre has played some good advantages as early as the 5th minute.

Peter Kirkup has had a fairly quiet 1st half with no issues

John Brooks has had the missed fk directly in front of him not seen and also the missed Mane offside. He has however correctly identified Long offside early on.

GOAL! for Man City

2-1 from Ineahacho

AM at 2016-05-01 17:13:34

Clear foul on Long not given right in front of JB who is looking down and this is why he is missing the holding around Long`s waist from the MC player. Important to keep your gaze up in these situations

AM at 2016-05-01 17:10:51

FK to MC right in front of the technical areas good use of whistle and arm signal from Andre

AM at 2016-05-01 17:09:45

Further CK to Saints as they press forward again

AM at 2016-05-01 17:09:09

Advantage to MC well read by Andre from a wide position

AM at 2016-05-01 17:07:46

Mane was offside in that last Saints build up confirmed by replay as Clasie puts the ball wide. JB looked to be just out of line with the 2nd rearmost defender and this would have affected his judgement.

AM at 2016-05-01 17:04:16

John Brooks correctly signals Long offside confirmed by replay

AM at 2016-05-01 17:03:36

So far Andre has been consistent in his judgement of foul / non foul and also yellow card offences

AM at 2016-05-01 17:00:47

Yellow Card

Clasie yellow card for that last pull back – correctly shown the yellow card

AM at 2016-05-01 16:59:12

Mane what a fantastic start from The Saints!

1-0 – Shane Long – great play by Saints as John Brooks correctly keeps down his flag not offside

AM at 2016-05-01 16:52:27

Long late on Otamendi as the referee allows play to continue – there is some debate on that last Long challenge not being penalised?

AM at 2016-05-01 16:51:18

Yellow Card

Fernandinho is reckless and is correctly shown the yellow card by Andre

AM at 2016-05-01 16:50:16

Andre is in a very position in that last MC attack -close good angle to view

AM at 2016-05-01 16:49:20

Quick break from Long sees him hitting the ball against the side of the MC goal net

AM at 2016-05-01 16:47:55

ck to S. good detection of ball last played out by a MC player

AM at 2016-05-01 16:46:43

Mangala careless on Long quick fk allowed good refereeing seen as he gets the game moving quickly

AM at 2016-05-01 16:45:18

Good leading form Andre in that last throw in to MC this help PK in his signal good teamwork here

AM at 2016-05-01 16:43:57

AM at 2016-05-01 16:19:53

…We now move to the 3rd EPL game of the day to be played at St Mary`s Stadium the home of Southampton vs Manchester City. A win for Southampton today will see them move up to 7th in the table. Whilst Manchester City lying in 4th place with their line up announced I am sure will have one eye on Tuesday`s UEFA Champions League Semi Final 2nd leg.  The responsibility now passes to our referee Andre Marriner, John Brooks will be on the Technical Touchline and Peter Kirkup will be on the near touchline as we view and Anthony Taylor has the 4th official duties.

Preview Manchester United v Leicester City

AM at 2016-05-01 16:17:29

Thanks to Ref Cam Team for the coverage of Manchester United v Leicester City. Two key talking points in this game were as Ref Cam Team discussed one very significant incorrect decision, when Mahrez should have been awarded a penalty kick at the end of the first half, has overshadowed an otherwise first rate performance for Michael Oliver. There is also some debate as to if the Drinkwater challenge in the final 5 minutes was it inside the penalty area?
