The one major talking point from the Refereeing team was the incorrectly disallowed goal by Assistant Con Hatidakis – to my way of thinking the benefit of any doubt has to go to the attacking team, but those are only my thoughts – let us know what you think by tweeting us @youaretheref. One for the Video Assistant Referee perhaps ?

Full-time and an object lesson in calm refereeing from Michael Oliver. Here’s the key plus points:
- Michael has a great capacity to anticipate play – backed by an outstanding athletic ability – he is never far away from the action.
- The key attribute of retaining focus and concentration was illustrated when he was called upon to award the penalty kick late in the game, even when the game was over as a contest.
- He is also an outstanding man-manager, using his body language to great effect – he is confident without being arrogant and everyone inside the game admires this.

Game over – summary to follow …….
AH at 2017-01-22 14:48:51
4 additional minutes – the result is no longer in doubt
AH at 2017-01-22 14:47:57
I am sure the Away Team will be pleased to see a small number appear on Roger East’s board for added time – they just want to get back on the bus and go home I imagine

and . Morgan is outpaced by Long, the Leicester defender clearly pushes the Saints substitute and receives a caution for his actions, however, on reflection, this should have been a dismissal. Even taking into account the change in law at the start of this current playing season, Morgan’s push was cynical and had the challenge not been made, Long would have had a clear opportunity to shoot on goal. Tadic dispatches the resultant penalty-kick, game set and match to the Saints.

In these days of judging the positions of torsos, etc, but more importantly giving the benefit of any doubt to the attacker, for me that has to go down as an incorrect key match incident call by the Assistant Referee. Such a shame as the refereeing team have been impeccable all game.
AH at 2017-01-22 14:36:40
All of a sudden, we have a talking point – and it looks like we have an incorrect offside call. Yoshida is called offside by Con Hatzidakis and clearly Yoshida has an impact on Morgan putting the ball into his own goal, but the replays show that the Southampton player was level with the Leicester defensive line, and therefore not in an offside position.
AH at 2017-01-22 14:31:06
That could well be a key moment in the game as Wes Morgan fires over from no more than 5 metres out. Was that the Away Team’s chance to get back in the game? Meanwhile, the referee continues to control the game in a low-key manner, much to his credit.
AH at 2017-01-22 14:28:41
The referee has not had too many opportunities to apply the advantage clause, but he did so to good effect when Huth offended, which led to a shot on goal to the Home Team.
AH at 2017-01-22 14:26:39
Half a hand-ball shout from the Home fans as the ball strikes the arm of Robert Huth – no penalty in my eyes, ball to hand, arms in a natural position, lots of reasons for the referee not to give the award.
AH at 2017-01-22 14:22:39
#SOULEI What I do admire about Michael Oliver’s style of man-management is there are no histrionics, no fuss, no bother. “It’s a Blue free-kick, that way, put if down and get on with it Gents,” and he says all that without saying anything!
AH at 2017-01-22 14:17:20
We are entering a key phase of the game – the next 10-15 minutes will probably determine the outcome, the next goal being key. Important the match officials remain focused, I am confident that they will.
AH at 2017-01-22 14:13:21
Stephens replaces Van Dijk in the first change of the game
AH at 2017-01-22 14:08:47
Note Michael’s positioning, well placed in the penalty area, as Vardy catches Van Dijk, more text-book positioning and movement
AH at 2017-01-22 14:05:19
The second half gets underway here on he South Coast, the refereeing team will be hoping for a continuation of the first half in terms of match control and a relatively ‘quiet’ game, my money is that things will become more involved in the second.
AH at 2017-01-22 14:02:31
We have further RefCam coverage this afternoon as Hull City visit Stamford Bridge, KO 4.15pm UK time, tune in for more detailed and live analysis

It is very quiet on Twitter this afternoon ladies and gents – let us have your thoughts on any refereeing issues @youaretheref. It will be great to hear from you

Some good articles for your half-time reading on our website here at You Are The Ref. Our congratulations go to Perrluigi Collina on his appointment as the new chairman of the FIFA Referee’s Committee, visit https://you-are-the-ref.com/pierluigi-collina-appointed-chairman-fifa-referees-committee/ for more details

Dare I say it – but so far so good for the refereeing team. Just the 8 penal offences in the first 45 minutes, no key incidents to judge, no-one anywhere near a yellow card – just an object lesson from the referee in how not to get involved if you don’t need to.
AH at 2017-01-22 13:45:54
2 additional minutes for Michael and his team to see the game safely through to half-time
AH at 2017-01-22 13:42:16
Rodriguez doubles the Saints lead from close range – it’s a bit of a stroll so far for the Home Team
AH at 2017-01-22 13:40:20
Good ‘safety-first’ refereeing – an instant call for the trainers to enter the field of play following a head collision – if in doubt, stop play instantly – no exceptions – just do it.
AH at 2017-01-22 13:37:49
Gray’s attempt on goal belonged more to Leicester Tigers than Leicester City, the Away Team are not having the best of afternoons so far.
AH at 2017-01-22 13:35:50
10 minutes to half-time, keep the focus gents – so far, so good ……
AH at 2017-01-22 13:32:16
His 3rd penal offence is also accurate, Soares sends Ndidi tumbling and the free-kick is correctly awarded.
AH at 2017-01-22 13:30:14
There is a different atmosphere to the game now as Michael awards only his second penal offence of the match – nothing like a goal to set the ground buzzing, and it needed one
AH at 2017-01-22 13:28:04
Hah, something to warm us up at last as Ward-Prowse finishes clinically from 12 yards tp put the Home Team 1-0 up
AH at 2017-01-22 13:22:53
2 shots on goal in the 20th minute of the game, nothing prior to that – we need a bit more goal mouth action on this so far, sleepy Sunday lunchtime game.
AH at 2017-01-22 13:19:14
Going back to the game on Friday evening, full marks to Stuart Atwell for his positive decision making with the 3 red cards and the penalty award, text book refereeing!
AH at 2017-01-22 13:17:14
15 minutes gone, and it’s taken us that long before the first penal offence has been committed. Compare and contrast if you will to the frantic match on Friday evening between Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday, and also for the majority of the City v Spurs game yesterday evening. It just shows how the match officials need to adapt their involvement accordingly.
AH at 2017-01-22 13:13:20
So far this one is not setting the pulses racing, early doors, but no shots on target as yet – not that the match officials will care ……
AH at 2017-01-22 13:11:00
Michael is one of the best exponents of reading play and anticipating where to be for the next phase of play. OK, I agree it’s easier to make that move owing to the skill levels of the players then in the lower leagues, however watch what he does as 2nd and 3rd phase plays develop – he is answering the question “where do I need to be next!” A great lesson for up and coming referees.
AH at 2017-01-22 13:06:33
6 minutes gone and no drama so far for the refereeing team, a solid and steady start to the game, just what we like to see !!
AH at 2017-01-22 13:03:24
Straight away Micheal is into his stride, literally, moving wide and deep as the Home Team develop a fast break
AH at 2017-01-22 13:00:11
Here we go – good luck to the Math Officials – I hope the ball runs kindly for you all …..
AH at 2017-01-22 12:58:42
Here’s a thought for you – in his youth Michael was an outstanding young player – do you think this helps him with his understanding of the game – let us know your thoughts? Contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com

Michael is supported this afternoon by Stuart Burt and Con Hatzidakis, with Roger East looking after the Technical Area.
AH at 2017-01-22 12:51:34
Significantly, 13 of Michael’s 19 top flight matches so far this season have been covered live on TV, a clear sign off how highly he is rated and I am looking forward to watching him manage the game.
AH at 2017-01-22 12:50:00
Back to today’s game – and I always enjoy providing the RefCam coverage when Micheal Oliver is in charge. He combines a commendable athletic ability with a clear and calm decision making process, and he remains on the best on the Premier League, and surely a contender for future major tournaments.
AH at 2017-01-22 12:45:48
Whilst waiting for kick-off, why not visit https://you-are-the-ref.com/hackett-backs-visionary-van-basten/ and read Keith Hackett’s interesting article on Marco Van Basten’s proposals for law changes – some of very revolutionary, including banning offside – now wouldn’t that be fun!

“I love my footy but it is depressing when officials mistakes are having such direct impact on results..”
Keep them coming during our games today to @youaretheref
AH at 2017-01-22 12:38:29
Much talk on Social Media, and quite rightly so, with regard to the non penalty award by Andre Marriner during the City v Spurs game which we covered here on RefCam. My colleague Glenn Turner pulled no punches with his thoughts on this uncharacteristic error by one the Premier League’s most consistent performers – we will never defend the indefensible here at You Are The Ref
