Full time summary – The referee certainly used his experience tonight in this game. I have mentioned the high altitude and searing heat and this clearly affected not only the players but also the match officials as play moved into the 2nd half – With regards to the KMI decisions then the penalty kick awarded to C. was correct. There was the missed one some 7 minutes earlier which I mentioned in my blog that I felt that the AR – PS on the far side touchline would of had a great view to judge but he choose not to assist the referee. 3 yellow cards issued were correct just the missed one in the first half. Kevin Stott`s positional play was fairly central as the game wore on but to his credit he missed little and tightened his free kick management in the 2nd half. He used plenty of communication skill at dead ball stoppages to speak to players and work to get them on his side. One consideration has to be the blowing of the whistle for full time that could have been very controversial if the ball had gone into the C. goal!! think safety first here and blow the whistle when it is clearly safe to do so, a slight delay would have been beneficial. As for the Assistants Felisha Mariscal bench side has displayed a good all round AR technique and supported the referee well. Paul Scott has incorrectly flagged an offside in the first half and could and should have assisted the referee in the penalty kick in the 83rd minute which was not awarded followed a shirt pull back on a C. player. Otherwise good movement seen along the touchline. Many thanks for your company tonight stay tuned throughout the week to you-are-the-ref.com for all the latest news, views and comment. Full Time 0-0

AM at 2015-06-08 00:05:10
With the final kick of the game the whistle seems to go just before the ball  goes just wide of the C. goal. Always best to wait here before you blow your whistle for full time (or even half time) just make sure the ball is in a safe position. What if the ball had entered the goal and the referee was blowing his whistle for full time? think of the reprocusions! just a key learning point here for all referees.

Free kick to RSL and the spray is now out as the free kick goes wide of the goal. 2 minutes of added time are shown by our 4th official

AM at 2015-06-07 23:58:51
Penalty kick to C. foul by 21 of RSL ON 21 OF C. CORRECT. Penalty kick is then placed wide of the RSL goal

AM at 2015-06-07 23:56:41
A good chance for Mulholland 19 RSL and his header goes wide

AM at 2015-06-07 23:55:09
21 of C. has just been pulled back by his shirt by 12 of RSL which should have resulted in a penalty kick to C. The AR on the far side PS would have had a good view and should of assisted the referee in this situation with  the referee some way from play

Free kick to C. given behind KS he did however pick it up and experience here would have played a big part.

AM at 2015-06-07 23:40:38
Offside against RSL with KS remaining fairly static with the heat playing a big part now and we have then seen a tight advantage to C. which does eventually result in an advantage to them.

AM at 2015-06-07 23:38:22
Throw in to RSL with Torres again moaning – this decision was correct and was a good spot by FM PICKING UP THE DEFLECTION OFF TORRES

AM at 2015-06-07 23:36:48
Throw in to RSL with FM then advising of a foul throw in and this is then correctly awarded to C.

AM at 2015-06-07 23:35:05
Ball out of play good signal and position adopted by FM to judge correctly

AM at 2015-06-07 23:34:09
All referees are assessed in every game and Peter Walton ex Select Group Referee (top referee) and PRO General Manager informs us of the following:
Assessment
“Every game our referees are assessed by three people. They’re assessed by their coach and that’s the person that works with them on a regular weekly basis mentoring them, training them, facilitating them. Then I have an assessor that watches from the command center here in New York which looks at every play that the TV camera angles can give us and we’re looking at positional play, we’re looking at decision making. And the third element is from the match evaluators, that is somebody employed by the league, quite an independent person and that role is not specifically to look at the referee and how he/she performs, that role is to look at the organisation of the day but a part of that is to feedback on the referees empathy and the application towards the players.” Peter Walton, PRO General Manager12
AM at 2015-06-07 23:30:21
C. sub 11 off 22 on

AM at 2015-06-07 23:29:57
Well timed challenge from C. player on the RSL 8 replays have just shown that this kmi decision was correct. Again we talk about the heat and high altitude but this clearly has an affect on the players and also the match officials

AM at 2015-06-07 23:27:29
Good non offside flag from FM at the last RSL attack. The player in the centre of the penalty area was non active as the ball was played over his head. Easy to be quick and be wrong. Good thinking time seen by FM

AM at 2015-06-07 23:25:25
Good technique seen from FM at the last RSL CK. I am sure that Paul Rejer will have played a significant part in the development of Assistant Referees as he did so successfully at the PGMOL during his time here under the direction of Keith Hackett and how Paul is being missed here….

AM at 2015-06-07 23:22:54
Well we have just had the first shot on target by C. saved by the RSL – GK

AM at 2015-06-07 23:21:59
Free kick to C. foul on 10 of C. with KS having both arms out wide with does cause confusion in his communication? it would be better to blast the whistle and signal with your arm which way the free kick is.

AM at 2015-06-07 23:19:47
KS is just getting caught up with play and he cannot get out of the way of play. It would be better to move to that bit wider position

AM at 2015-06-07 23:18:00
C. sub at half time 15 off 2 on.

AM at 2015-06-07 23:17:35
We have just seen a foul throw in by a RSL Player by AR – PS with nothing happening? Hacketts BLOG has recently covered this area highlighting the number of incorrect throw ins being taken and we have just seen another!

AM at 2015-06-07 23:14:26
The referee is removing the streamers on the field of play and…… 2ND HALF IS UNDERWAY

at 2015-06-07 23:12:55
The referee KS has overall controlled this game and with regards to key decisions he has been or thereabouts to make correct judgements. 2 yellow cards have been issued so far and there was just the one missed for Morales 11 which was a pity as he had been consistent in this area to date. Good movement and fitness seen in high altitude and searing heat. Paul Scott far side AR has supported the referee in terms of free kicks just the one offside flag which was incorrect as RSL were moving into a good attacking position. Felisha Mariscal has carried out all her duties effectively and from what we have seen to date all offside decisions look to be correct. 4th Official Nima Saghafi has been proactive and supportive with the higher than usual injuries to players seen in this game. 17 free kicks awarded in the first half. What are your thoughts or indeed any other thoughts with regards to the promotion of Graham Scott to the Select Group of referees in England. All at you are the ref.com send on their congratulations to Graham. Just the one promotion do you think that there should have more movement? Half Time0-0

at 2015-06-07 22:57:30
KS has a calming word with 15 of C. and then 11 Morales of RSL is lucky not to receive a yellow card following a reckless tackle on a C. player

at 2015-06-07 22:54:56
Another free kick awarded to RSL from KS with 3 minutes added time shown by NS

at 2015-06-07 22:53:52
No free kick awarded to RSL with Referee and AR well placed to judge. Offside C. player from FM

at 2015-06-07 22:51:49
Free kick to C. again the defending RSL player is not 9.15 metres away as the referee moves to his next position. Difficult to then come back to scene so he decides to let the free kick happen. It would be best here to linger if the kick is not being taken quickly and get the defending player back the required distance.

at 2015-06-07 22:48:45
The heat and high altitude are clearly having an effect on the players and match officials

at 2015-06-07 22:47:42
Free kick to RSL with Torres being given the benefit of any doubt with a word from the referee – good management here from KS

at 2015-06-07 22:46:25
RSL player incorrectly flagged offside by PS when replays show that he was CLEALRY onside when the ball was played through to him.

Morales 11 down injured as the C. player puts the ball out of play in a sporting manner

AM at 2015-06-07 22:37:24
Good free signal by PS far side AR, with good management of players in assisting with the restart of play

AM at 2015-06-07 22:36:10
Yellow CardStertzer – of RSL – reckless challenge after advantage player by the referee to C.

PS correct to award a free kick to C. careless challenge by RSL player

AM at 2015-06-07 22:32:48
Our 4th Official is being very proactive (NS) good to see

AM at 2015-06-07 22:31:32
No penalty to RSL with PS getting into a close and credible position to view with a good angle obtained. No penalty correct decision. Even the commentator noted the referees close position! little argument because the referee is there close to judge

AM at 2015-06-07 22:29:21
Ball is out of play for a throw in to C. there is a question mark by the RSL Manager questioning that the ball did not leave the field of play. FM would have had the best view down the touchline

AM at 2015-06-07 22:27:23
Push by 21 of C on a RSL player good detection by the referee and Powers is now back on the field of play

AM at 2015-06-07 22:26:17
8 of C Powers leaves the field of play for an injury

AM at 2015-06-07 22:25:35
Good advantage to RSL with a clear signal seen by our referee and this clearly benefits the game with RSL in an attacking movement

AM at 2015-06-07 22:23:17
Free kick to RSL just outside of the penalty area good restart position taken up by the referee – I did not see him use the spray in this. Why not? Let us know what you think by contacting us on either on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com

AM at 2015-06-07 22:20:53
Good arm signals by our referee on a throw in to Colorado and correct ball placement for the throw in

AM at 2015-06-07 22:19:05
Good movement by the nearside AR (FM) as she moves along the touchline in line with play

AM at 2015-06-07 22:17:35
Good movement by PS with a quick break in play to RSL

AM at 2015-06-07 22:16:16
4 off 21 on for Red Salt – defender for defender

AM at 2015-06-07 22:15:26
Early decision from Paul Scott with half hearted appeals for a penalty kick with the referee well placed to adjudge no penalty kick

Clip from Rob Harris last night on REF CAM in the Champions Final>
Main talking point from last nights game was the Neymar handball disallowed goal. So in dealing with the games talking points lets start with obvious one, that being the Neymar handball, first we have to establish whether or not it was Deliberate, well i and you think it wasn’t, don’t be sidetracked into talking about gaining an advantage from it, that’s not relevant, so the goal should have stood.

AM at 2015-06-07 22:12:41
An early injury to 4 Olave of RED SALT LAKE

It’s the first meeting for the Rocky Mountain Cup this year as Real Salt Lake entertain the Colorado Rapids at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday evening. The long-time Western rivals are sitting in the final two places in the conference, separated by four points. Real return home off another road defeat, falling 2-1 at Vancouver Whitecaps FC last weekend. The Rapids fell to their second consecutive loss, the Portland Timbers hitting for a late winner in a 2-1 victory last weekend at Dickís Sporting Goods Park.
  • Javier Morales scored his second goal directly from a free kick this season, but Real still suffered a second consecutive loss in a 2-1 defeat by Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday evening at BC Place.
  • The Rapids have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, the Portland Timbers hitting for a late winner in a 2-1 triumph Saturday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
  • Real won all three meetings between the teams a year ago. RSL took a 2-1 victory May 17 and a 5-1 win Aug. 19 – the biggest margin of victory in the all-time series – both at Rio Tinto Stadium; their 1-0 win Aug. 2 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park was the first by a road team in the Rocky Mountain Cup series since 2007.
  • The rivals play for the Rocky Mountain Cup, a trophy awarded by the supporters groups of both teams. The rivalry has lived up to its billing in past seasons, as last-day results sent RSL into the MLS Cup Playoffs ahead of their Rocky Mountain rivals in 2008 (a last-minute RSL goal for a 1-1 tie) and 2009 (a 3-0 Real win). In 2007, the RSL win also ended the Rapids’ playoff hopes, though Real also did not qualify4th Nima Saghafi
  • REFEREE: Kevin Stott. AR1 (bench): Felisha Mariscal; AR2 (opposite): Paul Scott;
