FINAL SCORE: 4 – 2

As ever, a huge thank you for following the referees and match action with us tonight, and a special thank you to everyone who tweeted in their comments and opinions – I love reading them all and reply to as many as the action allows.
With six goals and controversy around at least one of them, that didn’t allow me much time at all tonight!
Catch you all again soon…

What a huge shame the tie was effectively decided on a poor call by an assistant referee.
This had been a fantastic game with neither side asking for or giving any quarter.
Sadly, György Ring failed to do his job properly and undid all of the good work his team mates had put into the game.
His referee, Viktor Kassai had controlled the game very well indeed…only to to be let down by Ring.
As the saying goes…an assistant cannot make a bad referee look good, but he can make a good referee look bad.
GT at 2017-04-18 22:13:04
That is the end of extra time and the end of the tie.
Do not be fooled by the scoreline…this was no walkover by Madrid.
Bayern were right in this one until assistant referee György Ring missed a relatively simple offside call which allowed Ronaldo to put Madrid a goal in front.
At that point, with an extra man too, there was only ever going to be one winner and they went on to score two more goals.
The German side can feel very hard done by tonight.
GT at 2017-04-18 22:09:16
..and his second contribution is to give away a foul
GT at 2017-04-18 22:08:40
Kovacic’s first contribution is to hit the deck looking for a foul, but Viktor tells him to get up.
Well done again, referee
GT at 2017-04-18 22:07:18
With a minute to go Real make a change…
Kroos leaves the action for Kovacic
GT at 2017-04-18 22:06:26
oh dear, Bayern do nit deserve this scoreline.
Asensio takes on the defence single-handedly and scores a beauty into the corner.
That’s 6-3 on aggregate now.
GT at 2017-04-18 22:04:47
There is another question over offside, but for me Ronaldo was level with the ball when it was played to him
GT at 2017-04-18 22:03:49
Yes, you guessed it…Ronaldo.
Hat trick on the night which takes him to 100 Champions League goals.
But all the credit goes to Marcelo who burst through the Bayern defence to set up his team mate.
GT at 2017-04-18 22:02:28
and guess who got it?
GT at 2017-04-18 22:00:11
We are under way for the final period of extra time.
What else can this game throw up for us?
GT at 2017-04-18 21:58:39
That is the end of the first period of extra time…
Heartbreak for Bayern and it will be for the Hungarian refereeing team when they see that one later.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:57:21
and, of course, it’s that man Ronaldo with his second of the night and 99th in the competition.
The problem is…..he was offside when the pass was made to him.
Assistant referee György Ring has just undone all of his team’s great work tonight.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:54:06
Navas is clattered by Hummels and Viktor correctly awards the Real ‘keeper a free kick
GT at 2017-04-18 21:52:29
Robben talks himself into trouble and sees yellow after giving assistant referee Vencel Tóth a mouth full of abuse for not giving him a free kick.
Good support from Viktor for his team mate.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:48:47
Big call from Viktor, but a correct one for me.
No penalty as Casemiro causes contact on him in the penalty area.
Well done, referee.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:45:25
Good spot by Kassai as Ramos is pushed over by Hummels.
Free kick to Madrid.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:43:25
Let’s clear up any confusion over the Vidal sending off.
Some people are saying Viktor got it wrong as Vidal played the ball.
In Kassai’s opinion he did so, but the challenge was made with excessive force, and therefore deserved a caution.
That is the referee’s opinion, and that is the one that counts!
GT at 2017-04-18 21:40:18
Bayern get us going for the first extra period of 15 minutes
GT at 2017-04-18 21:37:17
We are to get an extra 30 minutes of this pulsating game as the aggregate score stays at 3-3
Very good night’s work so far from Viktor Kassai, who is refereeing this one just as he would have hoped
GT at 2017-04-18 21:35:26
That’s the end…
GT at 2017-04-18 21:34:30
We are in the final minute of added time…
GT at 2017-04-18 21:32:51
Costa (Bayern) is fortunate not to see yellow as he threw away the ball, delaying the restart.
Viktor decides a quick telling-off is suffice.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:31:28
That’s the end of the regular 90 minutes.
Four added minutes to go on.
Will we get a winner or is extra time on the horizon?
GT at 2017-04-18 21:29:27
It’s all getting a bit tetchy now as Muller delays the taking of a free kick.
Meanwhile Kimmich takes over from Lewandowski as Bayern look to strengthen their defence.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:27:01
Vidal pushes his luck once too often, and Viktor shows him a second yellow card.
The unfortunate thing is that challenge was one of his better ones as he played the ball.
Viktor judged it was with excessive force, so he showed the Bayern man the red card.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:21:34
Casemiro is very lucky indeed as he fouls Robben.
Free kick but nothing else for the Madrid man.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:19:39
Sergio Ramos puts the ball into his own net.
This scoreline means extra time is looming.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:18:35
That is goal number 98 in the Champions League for Ronaldo…
but hang on…
GT at 2017-04-18 21:17:48
Following a Bayern substitution, Muller for Alonso, Ronaldo does what he does best and fires in a header for Madrid.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:16:32
Hummels brings down Modric and sees yellow…deserved a caution.
Well done again, Viktor
GT at 2017-04-18 21:15:34
15 minutes to go.
Can Real hang on or will Bayern get that second goal?
Let us know what you think by contacting us on Twitter @youaretheref
GT at 2017-04-18 21:12:21
for Xabi Alonso (Bayern) for a foul on Isco.
The Madrid man is then substituted for Vazquez
GT at 2017-04-18 21:10:38
Vencel Tóth shows his team mate how to do it with a very good offside call against Ronaldo
GT at 2017-04-18 21:08:24
Poor offside call by György Ring. Lewandowski was level with the second rearmost defender when that pass was made.
GT at 2017-04-18 21:05:30
Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane makes the first change with Benzema making way for Asensio
GT at 2017-04-18 21:04:09
It’s all Bayern at the moment as they go in search of that elusive second goal.
Viktor is letting the game flow, only stepping in when he has to.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:59:42
This game has really come to life following that Bayern goal.
Madrid don’t know whether to attack or play out the game for a win on away goals.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:57:10
Once again, Viktor was absolutely correct with the penalty award.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:54:53
Huge call by Viktor….penalty for Bayern which Lewandowski coolly despatches.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:52:44
Vidal must take much mole care when challenging as he brings down Casemiro.
Remember, the Bayeen ran has already been cautioned
GT at 2017-04-18 20:46:17
Here we go again.
The second half gets under way with Madrid taking the kick-off
GT at 2017-04-18 20:37:05
The action will step up another gear in the second half, as a goal less draw is of no use to Bayern.
The German side has to score at least twice tonight, with the only score which would result in extra time being 1-2 after 90 minutes
GT at 2017-04-18 20:34:05
A very competent half from Viktor Kassai and his colleagues.
The most impressive feature of his game so far is his reading and anticipation of play.
He gets himself into positions two or three passes before the ball arrives.
That kind of game management comes through years of experience and understanding.
More of the same in the second half please…
GT at 2017-04-18 20:31:25
GT at 2017-04-18 20:31:08
That’s the end of the regular 45 minutes, there is no additional time to go on.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:28:03
We enter the final five minutes of this opening half.
The question is, how is this still goalless?
Meanwhile, Casemiro does eventually get the caution he deserves!
GT at 2017-04-18 20:25:25
Excellent advantage applied as Robben breaks at speed, but Casemiro fouls him a second time and this time it’s a free kick to Bayern.
No card fior the Madrid man though, which is surprising.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:22:04
Ronaldo tries to buy a penalty kick but the challenge from Hummels is a good one.
After a coup[le of minutes laying on the ground the Madrid number 7 realises no one is fooled so he gets up and jogs back up field.
Good refereeing Viktor….sometimes the best thing to do is nothing.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:19:46
Neither side seems to want to keep the ball at the moment, so Viktor hangs around the midfield area waiting for play to develop one way or the other
GT at 2017-04-18 20:17:15
A comedy of errors from the Bayern defence almost gifts a goal to Benzema but the ball trickles wide of the goal
GT at 2017-04-18 20:16:04
This time Ribery is fouled, and Viktor correctly awards a free kick for Bayern.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:15:03
Ribery makes himself look foolish as he goes to ground in search of a free kick.
There is no fooling Viktor tonight and he turns his back on the Bayern man.
Good decision referee.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:13:10
Kassai’s early movement into the position he was in made that no-penalty award look easy.
If he had not read the game so well that could have been a stronger appeal by Madrid.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:10:59
Kassai has this game completely under his control.
The players have responded well to that early caution for Vidal, and are playing football rather than kicking each other
GT at 2017-04-18 20:08:00
Viktor’s reading of the next likely phase of play is outstanding tonight.
He is moving into positions two or three passes ahead of the ball arriving.
That is experience.
GT at 2017-04-18 20:03:05
It’s attack and counter attack for the past few minutes.
Viktor is sensible in his movements, always keeping close enough to play to be credible but not running around aimlessly
GT at 2017-04-18 19:58:21
Alonso goes to ground but Viktor correctly waves away the Bayern midfielder’s appeals for a free kick
GT at 2017-04-18 19:56:00
10 minutes have gone and the game is beginning to settle into a pattern of Bayern pressing with Madrid playing on the counter attack.
Viktor Kassai has reminded everyone he is the man in charge tonight with an early caution for Bayern’s Vidal.
A good start from our Hungarian officials.
GT at 2017-04-18 19:52:42
Excellent spot by Viktor as Vidal takes down Isco with a late challenge.
He got the caution that deserved, which means the Bayern midfielder will miss the semi-final if Bayern go through tonight.
GT at 2017-04-18 19:50:08
See the teamwork between Viktor and his man behind the goals…when it is a corner the extra assistant moves to the junction of the penalty area and the goal line as a discreet signal for his referee.
GT at 2017-04-18 19:48:13
Ribery floors his opponent, free kick to Madrid…
A nice opener for Kassai to give, straight forward foul and nothing else
GT at 2017-04-18 19:47:12
Bayern immediately go on the attack, Viktor moves easily through the gears to stay with the active zones
GT at 2017-04-18 19:45:45
Here we go…
Bayern take the kick-off and get us underway…
GT at 2017-04-18 19:39:13
It’s almost time for kick-off at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
GT at 2017-04-18 19:25:32
As for our officials …
It’s an all-Hungarian line up with referee Viktor Kassai leading a team of fellow countrymen into the Madrid night-air at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
41-year-old Kassai is one of UEFA’s safe pair of hands, a veteran campaigner with 98 UEFA games under his belt, 43 of which have been in this competition.
Indeed, Viktor refereed the final of this competition back in 2011 when Barcelona dominated Manchester United, eventually beating them easily 3-1 in a match played at Wembley Stadium.
Kassai has been a referee for 27 years, with the last 14 of those as a FIFA listed match official.
He has with him his usual assistants György Ring and Vencel Tóth with Peter Berettyán operating as fourth official.
The additional assistants behind the goals are Tamás Bognar and Ádám Farkas.
Everyone at YATR wishes Viktor and his team the very best of luck, and we sincerely hope tomorrow’s headlines are all about the feast of football these two outstanding teams are capable of producing.
Don’t go anywhere…follow the big match here on YATR as we follow the Hungarian referees and all the match action.
This should be a great game and I am expecting some fantastic, attacking football.
GT at 2017-04-18 19:14:59
Hi everyone, and welcome to tonight’s live Refcam commentary game, Real Madrid v Bayern Munich.
It is winner-takes-all tonight, with no second chance for the losers, as we reach the UEFA Champions League 2nd leg of the quarter finals.
These two sides are meeting for the 24th time, which makes this the most played fixture in UEFA club competition.
There is very little to choose between these two great clubs over the previous 23 games, Bayern holding a slight edge with 11 wins to Madrid’s 10, with 2 draws. The goals scored count is 34 for Munich, 33 for Madrid.
The German side is, however, right up against it tonight having allowed a one goal lead to slip six days ago, and missing a penalty kick. Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo meant the Spanish giants left Munich with a valuable away lead.
The Portuguese superstar is now just three strikes away from hitting a century of UEFA Champions League goals, and who would bet against him reaching that remarkable landmark during this season’s competition?
There is a wealth of talent on show tonight in a tie which is almost guaranteed to offer goals, so sit back and enjoy all of the action and commentary on the refereeing team with us at YATR.
