Full Time

A solid performance by Allen Chapman and he should be very pleased with his evening's work.  The key moment in the game was the totally justified sending off of Derrick Jones, followed by a consistently high level of cautions, with 3 further cards being issued.

Thanks for tuning-in, and we kook forward to seeing you next time her at You Are The Ref

There will be 5 additional minutes ...........

AH at 2017-06-18 23:58:04

GOAL! Bradley Wright-Phillips, at last, is the man in the right place at the right time as opens the scoring.  Surely that's a match winner.

Yellow CardCollin is drawn into the penal offence and has no complaints as Allen Chapman shows him a yellow card

75

AH at 2017-06-18 23:46:21

Second hydration  break of the game - the player's need it

71

AH at 2017-06-18 23:44:25

Yellow CardPerrinelle joins the yellow-card club, an other good application advantage, retrospectively returing to the original place where the offence occurred

66

AH at 2017-06-18 23:39:12

Yellow CardCreaville shows the petulance of a teenage schoolboy as he kicks the ball away having conceded a penal offence.  Once again the decision was 100% correct - not that the Home Team fans agreed with him.

59

AH at 2017-06-18 23:35:01

The Union are leading charmed life - Wright-Philips is not having the best of days - the score remains 0-0

55

AH at 2017-06-18 23:30:26

Important 5 minutes as the referee needs to keep a tight reign on proceeding following the sending off, so far, so good

53

AH at 2017-06-18 23:25:53

Red Card#PHIvNY Drama out nothing as Derrick Jones #21 is correctly dismissed for a dangerous penal offence - 100% correct - significantly no objections from his Union team mates

AH at 2017-06-18 23:22:14

Pre- match I referenced the referee's position whilst the ball was in play.  Although he is no Clattenburg or Oliver, he moves well within himself, almost Atkinson-like - meaning that he is invariably well placed to make accurate decisions

The second half is underway - let's hope for more action in this second period

Half Time

45 minutes gone, no sign of a goal (well perhaps 1 or 2), and it's a good job that the referee is showing a degree of leniency.  11 penal offences in the first half, it could have been twice the amount - so far, the referees judgement has been good and his interventions well timed

#PHIvNY - 10 minutes to half-time and boy do we need a goal - not that that will concern the refereeing team one iota !

30

AH at 2017-06-18 22:40:49

#PHIvNY time for a hydration break - and correctly so - as the temperatures are high, so why take a risk.  This is a good intervention in my opinion......

23

AH at 2017-06-18 22:38:29

Robles is challenged in the penalty area, the game had already been (correctly) stopped for offside, but the NY stopper decides, in my opinion, to make a meal of the challenge and demands a full-scale medical intervention before proceeding.  Once again - get the game restarted asap

21

AH at 2017-06-18 22:32:45

#PHIvNY - there is a prolonged bout of playground squabbles in the penalty area prior to a corner kick - my advice here is to get the ball in play as quickly as possible - players don't tend to squabble when the ball is in play

20

AH at 2017-06-18 22:28:47

20 minutes gone and the free-kick count is high - there is no real pattern to the game so far, frustrating for fans and RefCam bloggers alike !

15

AH at 2017-06-18 22:23:48

Sapong. #17 for Philadelphia, is tumbled, although Alenn Chapman does not see it that way and allows play to continue.  In the referee's defence, he was excellently placed and he gave the decision with confidence and conviction.

8

AH at 2017-06-18 22:18:14

The pattern continues, with 4 routine penal offences in the first 8 minutes - still nothing in terms of key decisions to be made ......

4

AH at 2017-06-18 22:12:19

No dramas at all in the first 4 minutes, allowing the referee to settle into the game

Although it's close season in the UK, plenty of interest in the beautiful game, in particular regarding the use of Video Assistant Referees, Alan Biggs's excellent article is a good pre-match read at https://you-are-the-ref.com/even-video-refereeing-not-foolproof/

Pre-Match

Allen Chapman is the man in charge this evening, and during the game I will be focusing on the positional play of the referee and how this varies from their colleagues i the English game
