I am just left wondering how the referee would have managed some of our more ‘interesting’ Championship games, e.g. Derby v Forest

RCT at 2015-04-20 00:01:29

Full Time

Mark Geiger did not sparkle, I was expecting more from the World Cup referee – but he didn’t seem to be at the races. The New England players showed their frustration towards the end of the first half and he did not really improve in the second

A win for New England – probably deserved ……

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:58:38

Also, to me that was shocking use of the vanishing spray – he drew the line and then everyone ignored it ….

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:57:26

Yellow CardWilliams deserved that  – not sure Bunburry deserved hiss, was he really time wasting …..

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:54:42

especially the yellow card for Casey Yellow Card

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:53:55

To me, the Referee’s body language is wrong, he does not look relaxed and calm ,,,,,, and is giving his decisions in a flustered manner …

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:50:39

First class offside decision by the Assistant Referee ….

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:45:45

game on – at last ……..

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:45:24

Ping pong in the New England Penalty Area, but a reluctance by the referee to penetrate into the area, he was static about 25 metres away ….

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:43:06

Right Mr Gieger, here’s a proper test for you in the final 15 minutes …….

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:42:12

GOAL! New England score what surely will be the winner

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:38:10

The New England Team appears to be made up a characters from a Dickins novel – Woodberry, Bunbury and Shuttleworth – wouldn’t be surprised if  Holmes and Watson were on the bench …..

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:33:45

Ahh – thank you broadcasting colleagues – the Assistant was correct !!!!

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:32:42

I wish our broadcast colleagues would show us the equalising goal, how close was that to being offside ….

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:30:46

GOAL!  New England equalise, it’s what they deserve ……

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:24:34

Surely it ‘s only a matter of time before New England equalise …..

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:23:02

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:20:23

This will be a much better test for the officials ….

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:19:05

Already the second half has a much better tempo …….

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:17:31

The referee was very late in picking up the Assistant Referee’s offside indication – a wider patrol path would resolve that !!!

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:13:54

Let’s see if the referee has a better patrol path in the 2nd half and manages to move wider as attacking plays develop

RCT at 2015-04-19 23:12:01

Here’ s hoping for a livelier second half, although Christian Maidana’s free-kick reminded me of a certain  other Christian ….

Half Time

There is an old adage in refereeing about the 1st half being the easy one, surely that’s the case here  having said that, the 2 yellow cards were important to retain match control

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:59:59

Half Time

No shots on goal so far by the Away Team – tells it’s own story really ….

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:57:44

GOAL!Didnt’ we need that – hopefully that will liven up the 2nd half – it needs it…

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:56:14

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:47:35

Yellow CardFirst card of the day – Lee Nguyen has do reason to complain ….

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:46:20

As with the previous MLS Games, we find the referee running too central between the ‘D’s – he started off well, but has got more narrow as the game progresses.

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:41:59

The officials do not appear to be monitoring opposition players jumping up at the taking of throw-ins

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:40:35

We can tell that the match officials especially assistant referees had some coaching from English referees in terms of their style

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:36:28

penal offence count = 3, goal chances = 0, focus levels for the match officials = 10 …..

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:33:56

halfway through the 1st half and to coin a phrase “it needs a goal”.  There have been no discernible chances for either sfde

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:31:48

It’s also a massive focussing requirement for the Assistant Referees

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:26:27

15 minutes gone and they have had very little to do so far – time to keep focussed …..

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:22:20

Good man management of Union #18 Aristeguieta – no fuss, no bother – ref keeping impressive low profile

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:19:36

So far this game reminds me of a 3rd tier game in the professional game in England all hussle and bustle and no time for the creative players !

Loving the name of New England’s #28, London Woodberry – do you think he has a brother called Manchester ?

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:12:56

Good early movement by the Referee, moving wide and deep into the ‘outside left’ channel (as my Grandad would say)

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:10:14

here we go ……

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:07:18

it is always interesting to compare the style of refereeing in Europe and America, let’s see how Marc Geiger does this evening.

RCT at 2015-04-19 22:00:52

it’s been a relatively controversial free weekend for match officials, unless you know different ….

Whist waiting for kick-off, why not visit for Keith Hackett’s article on the use of arms and elbows

RCT at 2015-04-19 21:55:02

Delighted that the game this evening is being refereed by Mark Geiger who had such a great World Cup in 2014 and earned many plaudits for his performances.

RCT at 2015-04-19 21:52:37

Welcome to our coverage of the MLS ……
