Summary The refereeing team had total control, although the assistants were not really called upon in this frantic East Midlands derby. The referee showed 7 yellow cards and 1 red card for a second yellow to D5 fully justified. Although I did feel the caution on NF11 was cheap and NF10 was lucky to escape only a yellow for a challenge for serious foul play on D19, having said that the referee managed the game managed the players and managed the event very well. There was limited opportunity to play advantage because of the nature of the game, he read the game very well and can be happy with his performance.

Very good first half by the referee Paul Tierney, managing the players and occasion very well. Has to be mindful that he doesn’t get sucked in to showing cheap yellow cards. He must remain mentally strong and fully focused.

This East Midlands Derby is usually a fiesty affair, today’s referee Paul Tierney has refereed 6 games to date one being a Premier League game showing a total of 21 yellow cards and 1 red card.Paul will need to manage the occasion, event and players and will need to be mentally tough and remain fully focused throughout.
