Full time summary

AM at 2016-05-07 14:55:38

In what has been a tense and nervous game decided by one goal by an error and with neither team wanting to make that error, then MU have gone on to snatch this game in the closing stages and go on to seal a good away victory. In very warm conditions then Craig (with no key match decisions to firstly discuss) and his team have done all that was required of them. How has he achieved this respect and recognition? Well we have discussed safety refereeing in that Craig has firstly judged foul / non foul consistently throughout, this had the potential of a difficult live game for Craig and he has made it look an easy game but to his credit he has achieved this by good movement and viewing angles and also through good teamwork as we have discussed in my blog. He has overall played some good advantages and also worked hard particularly with his player management, plenty of work has been seen off the ball at stoppages as he has looked to get players on his wavelength, respect his decision making accuracy and to also gain their respect. Just the 1 yellow card and for me this was correct in 90+1 as O`Neil came flying in with a reckless challenge (trailing leg in the reckless challenge) as Norwich`s frustration was growing towards the end. Both Assistants have supported Craig very well low key and effective, all offside judgements were correct whether to raise the flag or not. They have tuned in well to Craig`s pre match instructions. Well done Craig and your team you have set the bar high as we start the weekend of EPL football.

Norwich now have to attack

AM at 2016-05-07 14:17:37

Craig and his team will I am sure see the tempo rise, no yellow cards as yet can this remain so to the end of the game?

71

AM at 2016-05-07 14:16:41

GOAL!

Rooney lays off the perfect pass to Mata to score to make it 0-1

70

AM at 2016-05-07 14:15:40

In that last MU ck then Jerome has got hold of Rojo and he needs to be very careful if seen by Craig then this could have easily been a penalty kick to MU

68

AM at 2016-05-07 14:13:38

Again good positioning and movement seen from MM in that last NC attack as he remains in line with the 2nd rearmost defender

65

AM at 2016-05-07 14:11:04

In that last MC attack good movement and sprint seen from Craig as he continues to show good sprint and movement in the warm conditions

63

AM at 2016-05-07 14:09:05

A glance from Craig to Dave Bryan confirms a ck to MU – good teamwork seen here

O`Neil is down injured as Craig quickly allows on to the field of play the Norwich Physio. Players taking fluid on board at this stoppage.

55

AM at 2016-05-07 14:00:14

FK to N. again good detection as Craig remains consistent in this area of award / non award of free kicks

53

AM at 2016-05-07 13:58:21

Neil came diving in from no where fortunately there was no contact as Norwich then break away

51

AM at 2016-05-07 13:56:12

Good throw in technique from MM positive body language seen here

49

AM at 2016-05-07 13:54:12

Dave Bryan keeping a close eye on players and the ball in that last throw in award to MU

47

AM at 2016-05-07 13:52:25

Advantage to MU I thought tight here and that a fk award would have suited MU in this situation

46

AM at 2016-05-07 13:50:59

No fk to Norwich is correct good early judgement from Craig seen here

Manchester United to kick off the 2nd half

HALF TIME

AM at 2016-05-07 13:33:43

Half Time

Norwich City 0 Manchester United 0

90+1

AM at 2016-05-07 13:32:07

Whilst Ruddy was fouled in that challenge he has then retained the ball and Craig has played an advantage to NC

3 minutes minimum of additional time

AM at 2016-05-07 13:30:58

42

AM at 2016-05-07 13:30:15

Good stoppage for an injury to Pinto well detected even as Ruddy had possession of the ball – Craig right to stop play

41

AM at 2016-05-07 13:28:06

Jerome goes down in that challenge in the last NC attack in the MU penalty area not a penalty kick

39

AM at 2016-05-07 13:26:25

MM led on that last throw in as Craig was unsure good teamwork seen here and also Craig ensures correct placement – particularly important right in front of the technical areas

36

AM at 2016-05-07 13:23:44

MU offside good retention of the flag as MM ensures that the correct restart of play is achieved how often do we see teams gaining advantage in these situations?

34

AM at 2016-05-07 13:22:17

fk to MU just a slight delay in the award to see if there was any advantage to be had – no so correctly awarded by Craig as he uses the spray to aid this fk to MU

32

AM at 2016-05-07 13:18:53

Good pace and movement from MM to get right down to the goal line to judge gk to NC

30

AM at 2016-05-07 13:16:58

In that last MU attack then it was noticeable how Craig came around in the left hand channel to judge a NC gk

28

AM at 2016-05-07 13:15:21

From a MU ck then Smalling heads over for a great chance for MU

27

AM at 2016-05-07 13:14:05

Foul on Mata – fk to MU – good to see that Craig is showing good early confidence in his decision making accuracy

26

AM at 2016-05-07 13:12:52

Great advantage from Craig in that last NC attack that really broke well and he has read that situation very well

25

AM at 2016-05-07 13:11:40

FK to MU this time for Rooney who is fouled in that last challenge

24

AM at 2016-05-07 13:10:43

Handball against Rooney – Craig is that close to award Rooney just decides to get on with it

22

AM at 2016-05-07 13:09:38

fk to MU good to see Craig not allowing too much contact early on as he looks to ascertain his control on this game

21

AM at 2016-05-07 13:08:42

A bit of a shove in the back on Pinto as Craig awards a NC gk and has a quiet word with the MU player, good player management seen here

19

AM at 2016-05-07 13:06:13

Good advantage and signal from Craig to NC

19

AM at 2016-05-07 13:05:43

Good non offside flag from MM in line with the 2nd rearmost defender

18

AM at 2016-05-07 13:04:05

FK to MU is correct despite the NC protests

16

AM at 2016-05-07 13:02:56

FK to NC awarded by Craig who had moved back well to detect this foul

MU sub

AM at 2016-05-07 13:01:44

Borthwick -Jackson comes on to replace Darmian

MU sub coming up

AM at 2016-05-07 13:00:56

Darmian remains outside the field of play down and injured being assessed as a match official you need to be aware of this

11

AM at 2016-05-07 12:58:52

Darmian 36 injured in that last challenge good early detection by Craig MU physio on to assess and remove from the field of play

8

AM at 2016-05-07 12:56:01

Norwich throw in good to see Craig leading Dave Bryan on the throw in signal as there was a deflection prior to the ball going out of play. Always good for an Assistant to see that lead when unsure

7

AM at 2016-05-07 12:54:17

Good movement from Craig in that last MU attack wide left channel to then be in a good viewing position to award a Norwich fk

5

AM at 2016-05-07 12:52:07

Great position taken up from MM right on the goal line to judge that the ball had not fully gone out of play

3

AM at 2016-05-07 12:50:28

Early fk to Norwich which Craig allows to be quickly taken good refereeing seen here to get the game restarted asap

2

AM at 2016-05-07 12:48:55

Both Assistants have had early gk and throw in decisions to make always good to get an early decision as an Assistant Referee under your belt

Norwich kick off

AM at 2016-05-07 12:46:53

Assistants Mike Mullarkey is on the technical area far touchline as we view and Dave Bryan is on the near touchline as Norwich kick off
