Well here’s three Italians who won’t be on the next plane home! Nicola Rizzoli delivered a strong performance here laying down a marker for his and his colleagues future inclusion in this tournament, of particular note was his calm approach, excellent judgment of acceptable player contact and consistency of law application, he seemed to perfect the art of raising his profile just when he needed to…………a superb performance well done Nicola!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:54:05

RH at 2014-06-25 18:50:53
clumsy challenge by Oshaniwa, referee played a good advantage, was the challenge worth a caution? What are your thoughts? Contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com a caution?
RH at 2014-06-25 18:47:48
Its a matter of maintaining focus and seeing the game through to its conclusion. The teamwork really has been good so far in this game, the Officials have definitely played their part well here
RH at 2014-06-25 18:44:14
Good to see the referee reading play by backing off when he has squeezed play to his assistant, not getting in the way of the players, great awareness!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:41:32
This is a quieter phase of the second half, extremely important that our Referee and his team maintain focus, a slip now could undo all the good work that has been done so far.
RH at 2014-06-25 18:40:17
Odemwinge off for Nwofor, at least he won’t receive a second caution!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:38:49
Great teamwork at that last Argentina corner, the Assistant signalling to the referee to ensure the correct outcome
RH at 2014-06-25 18:37:35
Did the referee initially signal a goal kick there? before signalling a corner?
RH at 2014-06-25 18:36:34
Good point raised by Ian M, spotting that the referee helped the injured Onazi to his feet, great refereeing!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:34:47
Looks like Di Maria of Argentina got studded down the back of his leg from an opponent,
RH at 2014-06-25 18:30:56
Astute Refereeing here, not too much running for the sake of it, a patrol path that will see him maintain good viewing angles coping with break aways whilst always attempting to maintain that optimal twenty metre viewing range.
RH at 2014-06-25 18:27:43
Once again the referee raises his profile just when its needed
RH at 2014-06-25 18:27:11
Good caution for Odemwingie following a late and reckless challenge on Mascherano
RH at 2014-06-25 18:26:14
There hasn’t been the usual pushing and pulling at corners in this game, just as well as we’ve had plenty of them!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:24:41
Babatunde is now replaced by Uchebo
RH at 2014-06-25 18:24:04
A break in play as Babatunde is treated and assessed for a painful injury
RH at 2014-06-25 18:22:33
Messi is replaced by Alvarez so no hat-rick today!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:21:47
The game is stretching out a bit as both teams counter attack
RH at 2014-06-25 18:20:12
The awarding of marginal corners and goal kicks is accepted by the players due to the referee following play into the penalty area and awarding credible decisions,
RH at 2014-06-25 18:18:17
Good to see the referee squeezing play towards his active assistant at this important stage of the game
RH at 2014-06-25 18:15:56
Not many offside decisions in this game, but did the ball go forward on that last call?
RH at 2014-06-25 18:14:16
The noise in the stadium has risen considerably, concentration is key here for all four of the officials
RH at 2014-06-25 18:12:58
This is an important stage of the contest – pivotal in the Referee’s match control, his tolerance level of what is acceptable may lower in the next five to ten minutes as he maintains his grip on the game.
RH at 2014-06-25 18:11:45
Great to see the Referee raising his profile as the players challenge his control, great tempo management!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:10:55
Caution for Oshaniwa for another reckless challenge on Lavezzi
RH at 2014-06-25 18:10:03
Another Argentinian goal this time by Rojo, looks like the second half has started the same way as the first
RH at 2014-06-25 18:08:20
Well, what effect will this have on the match tempo, well Omeruo has just committed a reckless challenge on Lavezzi, quite rightly cautioned!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:07:01
What a response by Nigeria another strike by Musa!
RH at 2014-06-25 18:06:00
Nasty late challenge by Babatude
RH at 2014-06-25 18:04:33
Referee Nicola Rizzoli gets us underway for the second half
RH at 2014-06-25 18:00:46
The half time talk in the match officials dressing room would be of job done well thus far, however the tempo of the game may well rise as Nigeria need to get back in the game. It is so important that complacency does not set in and the team are on their toes from the first whistle. However the referee has no loose ends to tidy up or escalating player tensions left over from the first half, and he can set his involvement level according to the pattern and tempo of play as it develops in the second half
RH at 2014-06-25 17:52:14
After an explosive start to this game the pattern of play settled down, although some Nigerian players questioned the referee on occasions his control of the game has been very good, player challenges have been careless but no more and overall played in a good spirit. quite rightly the main talking point so far has been the excellence of Messi and a great strike by Musa
RH at 2014-06-25 17:48:07
The referee brings the first half to an end, a satisfying fist period for the referee and his team
RH at 2014-06-25 17:46:48
The first half ends as it started with a Messi goal 2-1 Argentina
RH at 2014-06-25 17:45:56
Two minutes added time shown
RH at 2014-06-25 17:45:30
Spray time again, important to get this right so near the half time break
RH at 2014-06-25 17:43:48
It’s time for the spray! What a wonderful innovation, at any level of the game!
RH at 2014-06-25 17:43:10
The referee is showing superb judgment in allowing fair contact between the players without breaking up the game any more than is necessary
RH at 2014-06-25 17:39:53
Interesting that the referee has not needed to intervene at corners so far, as opposed to other games
RH at 2014-06-25 17:38:53
Lots of bodies in the penalty area, the referee play safe by penalising a Nigeria attacker
RH at 2014-06-25 17:37:31
first change Aguero is coming off replaced by Lavezzi
RH at 2014-06-25 17:36:04
Good decision for that holding offence on Emenike
RH at 2014-06-25 17:35:20
A solid first half hour by the referee, the players to be fair have played the game in a good spirit, will this last? What are your thoughts? Contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com
RH at 2014-06-25 17:33:32
Awkward push by Higuain on the goalkeeper, well spoted
RH at 2014-06-25 17:31:04
Good change of position by the referee at that short corner
RH at 2014-06-25 17:28:07
The involvement level of the Match officials is well judged as the game doesn’t warrant high profile refereeing at this point of proceedings
RH at 2014-06-25 17:26:25
Good goal kick decision given because of close proximity to play
RH at 2014-06-25 17:25:22
the more settled pattern of play has enabled the Referee to maintain good proximity to play and sound viewing angles
RH at 2014-06-25 17:22:04
The atmosphere in the stadium has for the moment calmed down
RH at 2014-06-25 17:21:00
One or two Nigerian players just starting to question the referee
RH at 2014-06-25 17:19:33
Again a good spot with a push on messi
RH at 2014-06-25 17:18:56
good spot there for that offence by Zabaleta
RH at 2014-06-25 17:18:22
with Nigeria leaving players up field there will always be the possibility of a quick break away attack
RH at 2014-06-25 17:16:23
With Argentina starting to take control the referees patrol path is becoming more disciplined
RH at 2014-06-25 17:13:24
The referee wipes his brow a couple of times, a sign of how warm it is!
RH at 2014-06-25 17:11:40
This is something of an end to end game at the moment, which if maintained will test the referee’s fitness levels
RH at 2014-06-25 17:10:36
Good calming words and body language by the referee in mid field calming things down
RH at 2014-06-25 17:09:38
the referee followed play well into the penalty area for that shot on goal by Higuain
RH at 2014-06-25 17:07:49
Play is settling down now and the Referee is starting to establish his movement around the field of play
RH at 2014-06-25 17:05:41
Important here that the Referee keeps fully focused as the game has yet to settle down and take shape
RH at 2014-06-25 17:04:47
amazing! Nigeria equalise through Musa
RH at 2014-06-25 17:03:17
An early goal 1-0 Argentina, who else but Messi
RH at 2014-06-25 17:02:01
That hurt Mascherano but wasn’t intended

Welcome to the Estadio Beíra-in Porto Alegre, Rio for the 2014 World Cup Group F match – Nigeria v Argentina This is a fascinating match in prospect as the Central America and African styles of football meet head to head to confirm the winners of Group F, Nigeria need to take something from this game to qualify just in case Iran win their last game. What type of contest will this game provide for our Referee and his team? Will he keep a tight hold on early proceedings to gauge his level of involvement?
