Full time summary;

BT has controlled this game by effective use of his yellow cards (when the tempo rose somewhat in the later stages as NY pressed for a goal). He clearly has vast experience at this level and this was seen by player respect overall towards him. He was firm and decisive on yellow card challenges. Sapony 17 of PU was shown a yellow card when it was not clear on first view of the severity of the offence and we did not see a replay of this incident. My area of development for BT would be for him to continue to work at viewing angles (he tended to run fairly central and came up behind play as players entered the penalty area. This would not be the best view for him to make his KMI judgements.

Teamwork overall was very good. Gianni Facchini made 2 excellent key judgements on offside. One non offside flag for the first PU goal and a correct offside flag later in the game to rule out a PU goal.  AR Craig Lowry covered all areas of his key role of offside and we just mentioned some minor technical points which I am sure will be discussed with his AR Coach.

AM at 2015-05-25 00:00:13

Full Time

0-2

13 fouls committed by each team is an interesting stat. Full time summary to follow..

AM at 2015-05-24 23:58:46

Free kick to PU as BT manages this. Grappling on the goal line preventative refereeing here would be to award a free kick as players are grappling each other and this could develop further. Throw in to PU then AWARDED.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:56:18

Stoppage in play as PU 9 leaves the field of play for SUB 14 to come on

AM at 2015-05-24 23:55:23

3 minutes of added time as there appears to be a delay in play. Referee will need to be mindful of this.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:53:58

BT and CL good eye to eye at a throw in to PU. They took their time here.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:52:29

Free kick to PU CORRECT as BT looks to remain in control of a feisty period of play as NY press hard to get back in the game

AM at 2015-05-24 23:51:00

Yellow Card22 of NY – PULL BACK OF THE PU SHIRT.

PU HAVE THE BALL IN THE NY GOAL ONLY TO BE DISALLOLOWED FOR OFFSIDE. REPLAYS HAVE JUST SHOWN THAT THIS DECISION WAS CORRECT AND GF WILL HAVE USED THE PENALTY AREA LINE TO ASSIST IN HIS JUDGEMENT BUT FOR ME CORRECT AS THE PU PLAYER WAS JUST OFFSIDE WHEN THE BALL WAS PLAYED FORWARD TO HIM.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:48:20

SWOT analysis what are your opportunities and threats for the coming season?

Sapong is late and needs to be careful. A final public warning here would have good.

An advantage played by BT and the NY player is fortunate not to receive a 2nd yellow in this situation. The tempo as risen dramatically as NY look to get back in the game. BT needs to slow things down.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:45:20

NY SUB 7 OFF 9 ON

AM at 2015-05-24 23:45:00

Yellow Card5 of PU is correctly shown the yellow card for his reckless challenge. I like the way how BT gets out his yellow card quickly to defuse any potential retribution.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:43:37

Yellow Card7 of PU yellow card shown off the ball

AM at 2015-05-24 23:43:15

Free kick to NY RB and BY gets out his notebook and Yellow Card8 NY and 10 Yellow Cardof PU are shown the yellow card. The referee then brings back play as he was slow in getting into his position. This frustrates players as they want to get on with the game.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:40:32

PUPU player shows dissent by throwing the ball down a yellow card here would have been CORRECT for dissent by action.

Free kick to PU is correct with NY claiming a penalty kick.

Yellow Card17 Sapong for PU – we will need to see replays of this incident as it was not clear what had happened in this situation

pu sub 11 off 27 on

AM at 2015-05-24 23:36:31

Free kick to NY RB again the referee has his back to play. As he gets the spray out he has his back to all active players. The best position would be to view all players as you get out the spray, keep them in view

AM at 2015-05-24 23:33:45

Good signal technique from GF following a corner, good monitoring of ball placement and his flag is in his correct hand (left) active towards the referee

AM at 2015-05-24 23:32:17

Just a point on BTs positioning as we see play entering the NY penalty area he is tending to take up a square view and directly from behind. This will not give him the best viewing angle to detect any potential offences.

NY SUB 11 OFF 91 ON.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:30:07

Good delay from GF on a throw in to NY. Good eye to eye contact seen here with BT

AM at 2015-05-24 23:26:39

GOAL!0-2 A quick counter attack and we have another goal to the away team PU

AM at 2015-05-24 23:25:45

Replays have shown what an excellent non offside flag that was by GF. Well done! the freeze frame shows that the PU player was level when the ball was played to him. Although in real time that was quick and he looked offside on first view.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:23:52

Dispute on a throw in. I can only think here that the AR CL HAS GIVEN IT INCORRECTLY AND BT has over riden this decision which he can do. PARTICULARLY WHEN BT HAS A BETTER VIEW.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:22:02

GOAL!0-1- excellent non flag for offside by GF as PU score the goal.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:20:44

BT could have just given this free kick a bit quicker, particularly when directly in front of the Technical Areas and both players pulling and tugging each others shirts. Best to be pro active before things get too heated and you have major disciplinary problems. Decision accepted by Manager in front on players.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:18:24

BT shows some empathy for Casey 6 as he goes off to be replaced by  17

AM at 2015-05-24 23:17:06

Just a minor point for CL just to get your flag in the active hand towards the referee, in this case left hand. He has it in his right hand away from the referees position and near the corner flag

AM at 2015-05-24 23:15:00

15 of NY RB then pulls back a PU player and the referee BT has a word with him, just to calm him down and also to let him know no more!

AM at 2015-05-24 23:13:41

As the ball is crossed from a NY player a careless challenge then comes in just after the ball is crossed. Important that the referee notes this and has a word with both players at an early opportunity. Offender and Offended.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:11:04

2nd half underway and we have an early offside from GF

AM at 2015-05-24 23:10:36

Going back to SWOT as a referee / assistant have a look at your weaknesses this season and be honest where you need to improve, take a look at assessments, coach reports and you own thinking/advice received. List them down.

AM at 2015-05-24 23:04:58

Baldomero Toledo has controlled this game no issues in this respect. He is clearly a very experienced referee at this level and the players are showing respect to this fact.

All KMI judgements have been correct and the only development points that I have raised in my blog has been regarding his dynamic movement (could do with an injection of pace) as he is reading play from a long distance at times and he is also relying on his ARs to help him out in some situations. Also viewing angle and close proximity to play for KMIs could and should be closer although as I have said he has missed little to date.

As for both ARs – Gianni Facchini has been impressive on the far touchline, good positioning and movement seen and good change of the flag into the active hand. Just a hasty incorrect flag when he changed his mind ck / gk but this is about development and education and he will learn from this experience to just give yourself more thinking time.

As for AR Colin Lowry he has done all asked of him from what we have seen so far.

Stay tuned for the 2nd half when we will also have a look at SWOT again…

AM at 2015-05-24 22:55:57

Offside from CL as the referee BT then blows his whistle for

Half Time

0-0

AM at 2015-05-24 22:54:46

Good body language from GF who also changes the flag into his active hand as he moves along the touchline

AM at 2015-05-24 22:53:13

1 minute of added time

AM at 2015-05-24 22:52:57

Again from a NY RB throw in BT is caught fairly square as play moves to the goal line and then NY hit the post

AM at 2015-05-24 22:51:23

Free kick to PU. BT runs to the position of the free kick. Best to just give and get away from the scene when there is no threat to your match control. A decision accepted by the players.

AM at 2015-05-24 22:49:55

Free kick to PU as BT races in and there is no further action, that all seemed quite dramatic!. Just a point on positioning he has his back to all players behind him, and this is not the best position to take up as you could have potential problems behind your back and you are unsighted

AM at 2015-05-24 22:47:40

We did discuss SWOT analysis before the kick off. As a referee now is the time to list your strengths as a referee this season. Reflect and be honest areas that you have done well at…

AM at 2015-05-24 22:45:23

Offside by GF correct as the NY player was moving back into active area to challenge for the ball from an offside position

AM at 2015-05-24 22:44:30

NY RB are claiming handball in the penalty area, we did not have a clear view of this incident and we can discuss later if we see a replay

AM at 2015-05-24 22:43:06

No penalty kick to NY RB and the BT has got himself into a good close viewing  position to make his judgement

AM at 2015-05-24 22:41:51

This game is being played at Harrison New Jersey and the stripes on the pitch will assist our ARs today in their offside judgements

AR – GF firstly quickly gives a ck and then correctly changes his mind to give a gk to PU. An important point here for ARs is to take your time, don’t rush your decision making process. You have more time than you think!

AM at 2015-05-24 22:37:42

Foul on PU gk correct and the referee is close to award this adds credibility to your decision making process

NY sub 92 off 5 on

AM at 2015-05-24 22:36:45

Again, the referee is some way from play and he needs to work at his viewing angle and close proximity to play, so if and when a KMI occurs he will then be in the best position to make the judgement. We then see NY RB hit the post!

at 2015-05-24 22:33:47

AM at 2015-05-24 22:32:47

The referee is maintaining match control at times from a distance, however, to date he has missed little and we have seen an early respect towards him from the players

AM at 2015-05-24 22:30:15

The heat is quite clearly playing a major part in this game tonight. Players are pacing themselves and using the ball in their passing movement at every opportunity

AM at 2015-05-24 22:28:27

Again the far side AR (GF) who shows good movement along the touchline. I know that Paul Rejer has played a major part in his and other ARs performances! as he did so well in this Country when he was AR Manager to Keith Hackett for the PGMOL

AM at 2015-05-24 22:25:50

BT is adopting a steady approach to this game and he is some way behind play as a key moment arrives. He would be looking to his AR on the far side for support if required (GF)

AM at 2015-05-24 22:23:33

A GOOD CLEAR THROW IN SIGNAL FROM GF far side AR to PU

AM at 2015-05-24 22:22:18

Kevin Terry Jr (KT) 4th Official is seen BEING PROACTIVE and monitoring the player warming up process

AM at 2015-05-24 22:20:28

The temperatures in New York are quite high with a 5pm kick off. So the match officials will need to be mindful of the heat as the game progresses today. Plenty of fluid will have been taken on pre match

AM at 2015-05-24 22:18:02

BT has just signalled no free kick and has had a word with players off the ball as he looks to build up a rapport with the players.

AM at 2015-05-24 22:16:22

Good non flag for offside from GF with NY Bulls player well on side

AM at 2015-05-24 22:15:42

Ball out of play for a throw in signalled by GF. Followed by a free kick to NY Bulls

AM at 2015-05-24 22:14:05

Both teams are playing a 4-5-1 formation so the referee will need to be mindful of his positioning with these formations

AM at 2015-05-24 22:12:29

AR Craig Lowry (CL) is on the nearside touchline and Gianni Facchini (GF) is on the opposite touchline

AM at 2015-05-24 22:10:48

The referee BT has just been hit by the ball, he will need to look at adjusting his position to take a wider view to avoid this happening

AM at 2015-05-24 22:09:05

We are underway as the referee Baldomero Toledo (BT) gets the game underway

AM at 2015-05-24 22:07:54
