Full time summary

RCT at 2017-06-17 23:21:28

Firstly, I must question Robert Sibiga`s judgment to continue to play this game, particularly as the playing surface conditions were worsening to the point that players were just falling over on the rain sodden playing surface. How on earth could this playing surface be fit to play football on, it was farcical at times? it was extremely fortunate that there were no serious injuries. I am sure that the MLS Referee Management Team will be discussing this with the referee.

Key match decisions - 21st minute there was a clear penalty kick not awarded to NY City this was the Assistant Referee Jason White`s call but he decided not to flag and assist his referee when better placed to support.

51st minute there was a penalty awarded to NY City when the Seattle player clearly played the ball. I feel that if the referee had a wider view here then he would not have awarded. In the 2nd half of the season MLS are using VAR how Seattle would have wished it was in use today.

Robert Sibiga has shown 7 yellow cards 3 for NY City and 4 for Seattle all correct but again we have to question the terrible playing conditions being a key factor in 5 of the yellow cards shown.

The referee overall has shown very good movement and positioning throughout, with very good and effective use of his whistle. Very good management of the 9.15 metre defensive wall free kicks, this really was a key and positive factor of the referee`s refereeing performance tonight.

Assistants - Jason White was involved in the key match decision in the 21st minute when he failed to support the referee with a signal for a penalty kick to NY City. Otherwise he has supported the referee well with ball out of play judgements.

Jose Da Silva has supported well on the nearside touchline.

4 minutes minimum additional time to be played.

NY sub 7 Villa off Brillant on

88

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:58:09

As we enter the final 2 minutes plus added time key for all match officials to retain their composure and concentration.

85

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:55:09

Very good save from Friel see NY awarded a CK as the referee moves well as we enter the final 5 minutes plus added time.

83

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:52:42

Foul by David Villa of NY City no yellow card produced and I feel the referee has taken into account the playing conditions in this situation.

81

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:50:27

No foul awarded on Nouhou of Seattle and White having just been cautioned is fortunate.

78

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:49:09

Yellow CardWhite of NY City becomes the latest in the referees notebook for that blatant pull back on the Seattle player.

77

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:46:08

GOAL!

David Villa gets No.2 to make it 2-1

76

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:45:07

FK to Seattle taken from some 5 metres forward of the position of the offence, important to get placement restarts correct.

No fk awarded to Seattle just look at the water on the playing surface again I have to question how can the referee deem this playing surface to be safe to play on?

FK to Seattle awarded just outside of the NY penalty area. Good management of the defensive wall seen.

62

From that last CK to NY City we see the referee in the optimum position to view any potential grappling.

61

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:29:51

As play stops for an injury to Marshall 14. of Seattle just to let you know.

Coming up on Refcam, we have,

  • Tomorrow Night         @ 10.00 pm MLS – Philadelphia Union v N Y Red Bulls

59

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:28:12

Again we see players falling over on the heavy and wet playing surface.

57

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:26:38

Yellow CardMarshall of Seattle for dissent on the NY City penalty kick becomes Seattle`s No. 4 player in the book.

54

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:25:22

If we had VAR then the 2 key match decisions would have been to award a penalty kick to NY City in the 21st minute - not awarded.

In the 51st minute the penalty kick awarded to NY City would have been reversed on VAR.

51

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:21:52

Penalty kick to NY City is awarded and on replay it shows that the Seattle player clearly plays the ball. Oh how we wish that we had VAR.

This is clearly an incorrect call and I understand that we will be using VAR in the 2nd half of the MLS season.

NY City - Villa scores to make it 1-1

49

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:18:40

FK to Seattle foul on Roldan good flag from Jose Da Silva.

47

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:17:37

Yellow CardAlonso of Seattle becomes No 4 in the referees notebook. Conditions are worsening here at the Yankee Stadium. How long can we continue?

46

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:16:05

Conditions are getting worse with heavy rain falling and the referee continues despite the ball not moving well and surely this has to be a danger to the players?

Half Time Summary

RCT at 2017-06-17 22:09:45

Half Time Summary -

Key match decision - 21st minute clear penalty kick to NY City not awarded and would have been for Assistant Referee Jason White to signal unfortunately this did not happen and is a pity on an otherwise good half from the referee and his team.

Robert Sibiga has overall controlled this match well in very wet conditions he has correctly picked out 3 yellow cards - 1 for New York City and 2 for Seattle all for reckless challenges.

The referee has shown very good movement and positioning throughout.

Good effective use of the whistle and very good management of the 9.15 metre defensive wall free kicks.

Assistant Jose Da Silva has supported well on the nearside touchline.

HALF TIME

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:57:01

Half Time

0-1.

45+1

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:56:22

New York hit the bar as the referee quickly stops play for an injury to Sweat of NY City.

Our referee is continuing to show very good movement and positioning in these very wet and heavy playing conditions.

42

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:52:33

CK to NY City is taken by Villa as Seattle clear the ball.

41

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:51:30

Some confusion on that last throw in award, eventually is awarded to NY City.

The referee ensures that the last fk to Seattle is taken from the correct position.

34

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:45:03

No penalty to NY City is correct as the referee plays an advantage to Seattle.

Yellow CardWallace of NY City gets a yellow card for that last reckless challenge.

Playing Conditions

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:42:35

Heavy rain is continuing to fall and in that last Seattle attack, heavy water effected the Seattle player from being able to play the ball. A consideration here for the referee if conditions get worse.

29

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:39:45

Yellow Card

7 ROLDAN OF SEATTLE - RECKLESS CHALLENGE HE WAS BEAKING UP A PROMISING ATTACK FOR NY CITY.

21 - KEY MATCH DECISION

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:34:51

No penalty award to New York City - Assistant Referee Jason White had the best view of this incident and decided no penalty - did the playing conditions effect the Assistant Referee`s judgment?

On replay it looked a clear penalty, there is contact on the NY attacker by the Seattle defender but not awarded.

19

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:30:46

FK to New York again well managed, did you notice how positive the referee was in marching back the defensive wall, spray out leaving no one in doubt.

19

17

FK to Seattle - very well managed by the referee, spray out as he paces back 9.15m.

15

FK to Seattle again good use of the whistle - important to communicate to all and how you use your whistle is key. Make it work for you.

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:21:39

Foul on Seattle GK good detection by Robert Sibiga maybe a flag indication from Jason White would have assisted here he seemed to think about it, hesitated and decided not to flag. A pity as the teamwork would have been enhanced here.

8

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:19:19

Heavy rain continues to fall as the referee shows good early movement.

Referee Communication

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:16:08

Good early use of the whistle from our referee in that last fk award that sounded effective.

3

RCT at 2017-06-17 21:15:04
