Well for me tonight`s the referee Milorad Mazic from Serbia has quite simply been in complete match control throughout this high intensity game. How has he achieved this? by what he has seen and also his recognition of fouls / non fouls. He has performed in a calm and composed manner, carrying out his business in a consistent and credible manner. He has given himself thinking time on the key and crucial judgements and then acted upon by what he has seen. All yellow cards produced aided his match control and were spot on as he stepped up his authority and correctly carried out the laws of the game. Penalty kick to MU – spot on. He is refereeing in the theatre of dreams and I think he likes the theatre with his body language and movement, full of confidence and imposing his authority on the game. His motto is “you cant please everyone” well to full time I think he just about has!. We have discussed Fellaini`s elbow on Lovren (2nd half) which could easily have been red, however shown a yellow card. However, both Assistants have demonstrated why they are at the top of the Assistant Referees List and I can see in particular why Daliber Durdevic (far touchline) is so highly thought of by his excellent offside judgements as we have discussed, fitness in field movement, signal technique and support to our referee tonight.

All in all a Serbian special performance from our match officials tonight in the Theatre of Dreams.

The AAR on the goal line and from a very close and clear view decides no penalty as the ball is struck from very close range at the L. defenders arm – with close proximity ball to arm this did not appear to be a deliberate action.

Great move from MU – Rashford moves towards the L. goal line passes to Fellaini who blasts the ball over the bar – again the referee achieves a great viewing position to make any judgement

We have just reviewed the Fellaini yellow card and on video review then he looks fortunate not to have received a red card. Again, we have seen a replay which the referee does not have and from the referees view / angle with the support of his AAR. on the goal line they have decided yellow.

Again, a great position taken up by our referee for that last half hearted penalty appeal from Man Utd. He gets into a great position to see, think, recognise and not award.

Referee half time summary Milorad Mazic

AM at 2016-03-17 22:05:23

Well tonight`s referee has been in complete control throughout, how has he achieved this? by what he has seen and also his recognition of fouls / non fouls. He has given himself thinking time on the key and crucial judgements and then acted upon by what he has seen. 2 yellow cards for Blind and Coutinho were spot on as he has enhanced his authority. Penalty kick to MU – spot on.

He is refereeing in the theatre of dreams and I think he likes the theatre with his body language and movement, full of confidence and imposing his authority on the game. His motto is “you cant please everyone” well to half time I think he has!

Both Assistants has demonstrated why they are at the top of the Assistant Referees List and I can see in particular why Daliber Durdevic (far touchline) is so highly thought of by his excellent offside judgements as we have discussed, fitness in field movement and support to our referee tonight.

Half time summary

AM at 2016-03-17 21:56:30

What a marvellous 1st half – MU moving into the lead with a penalty kick, only 12 seconds before half time to allow Liverpool back into the game with a marvellous goal from Coutinho to make it 1-1 with no additional time how crucial could these last few seconds cost MU?

41

AM at 2016-03-17 21:50:50

Coutinho Yellow Cardreckless on Lingard and he breaks up a promising MU attack – good supportive flag from AR. 1 (MR)

39

AM at 2016-03-17 21:48:01

Excellent in field movement along the touchline from AR. 2 – (DD) AS WE VIEW far touchline – he did that with ease but kept an infield gaze.

37

AM at 2016-03-17 21:46:09

Rashford moves into the L. penalty area as AAR.2 MOVES ALONG BEHIND THE L. GOAL LINE TO VIEW AND MAKE ANY JUDGEMENT

35

AM at 2016-03-17 21:43:58

Clyne careless again on Lingard this time – spray is out as the referee manages the free kick close to the edge of the L. penalty area.

34

AM at 2016-03-17 21:42:42

From the free kick Sturridge hits the bar and the ball is cleared to safety

33

AM at 2016-03-17 21:41:36

Blind Yellow Cardreckless challenge no complaints – he was also spoken to by the referee minutes ago

31

GOAL!

Martial scores the resultant penalty kick – 1-0

30

AM at 2016-03-17 21:39:47

Penalty kick to MU, foul by Clyne on Martial – again referee so well placed to positively award, look at his position – spot on

28

AM at 2016-03-17 21:37:42

Calming word with Danny Blind in that last L. fk award, good management seen here and appreciated by the players

26

AM at 2016-03-17 21:36:15

FK to MU did you notice the referees quick and sudden movement towards the challenge as the referee asserts his authority here.

25

AM at 2016-03-17 21:34:48

L. offside correct from (DD) very good judgement seen here just offside but correct

23

AM at 2016-03-17 21:33:41

Great advantage to MU – good signal seen, then the referee gets right into a close proximity to judge no penalty to MU. As he says in his motto ” you cant please everyone” how true that is as a referee

21

AM at 2016-03-17 21:30:46

In that last MU attack did you notice the  fitness and movement towards the edge of the L. defending penalty area and in a great view / angle to judge any potential key match decisions

18

AM at 2016-03-17 21:27:33

Great save Mignolet – ck to MU –  good position taken up by the referee at this last MU attack

15

AM at 2016-03-17 21:24:59

A free kick correctly awarded to MU. did you notice the referees body language, positive hand / arm signal and excellent use of the whistle? keep an eye on these positive attributes of this referee

13

AM at 2016-03-17 21:22:35

Throw in to L. correct as the ball last came off MATA -close to AR.1 (MR) – These decisions so close to you can be the most difficult to judge

10

AM at 2016-03-17 21:19:59

Confusion at that last throw in Man Utd claiming the throw in uncontested, the referee then awards to Liverpool claiming it came of a Man  Utd players foot.

8

AM at 2016-03-17 21:18:11

Handball against Fellaini – who then follows this up with a careless arm challenge on an opponent as the referee close by has a calming word with Fellaini

Early Impressions of the referee

AM at 2016-03-17 21:14:21

Good early impressions of this referee, fitness, movement, positioning, signals, body language and use of whistle – keep an eye on these key areas of a referees outward impression.
