SFull TimeSummary: This was a game that Manchester City dominated from start to finish and the only surprise is that the margin was only 2 goals. West Ham could not retain possession and hence found themselves under constant pressure. They were perhaps unfortunate to concede the first goal but thereafter they were constantly under the cosh and mounted only spasmodic attacks which posed few problems. The only real talking point is the offence which led to the injury to Silva. Although the West Ham player received a yellow card, replays suggest that the use of the elbow was deliberate and hence the West Ham Kouyate should have received a straight red card. I do believe that the Referee was influenced by a slightly similar offence committed by Silva which he only punished by a yellow card and perhaps judged it in a similar manner in trying to be consistent with just a caution. That being said, each challenge should be judged individually and punished accordingly. Otherwise Anthony Taylor judged his involvement very well, used positioning which suited the patterns of play and dealt effectively with the many quick Manchester City counter-attacks.. Please let us have your thoughts on this and any other points that may interest you on

Downing fouls Kolorov and earns him a caution. Yellow Card

Foul by Yaya Toure on Noble.

at 2015-04-19 15:22:01

Another chance goes begging for City. Foul by Fernandinho so free-kick to West Ham.

at 2015-04-19 15:18:30

It seems that Manchester City are trying to walk the ball in..

Manchester City substitution Dzeko for Aguero.

4th Official indicates 9 minutes added time mostly due to Silva’s injury.

at 2015-04-19 15:15:57

Fernandinho for Lampard

at 2015-04-19 15:12:45

Another good offside decision by Assistant Cann.

at 2015-04-19 15:10:41

City are dominating the game but as yet been unable to add a third goal.

at 2015-04-19 15:03:22

Vital that the Officials maintain concentration after the 8 minute stoppage for Silva’s injury.

at 2015-04-19 15:02:32

Good offside decision by Assistant Child.

at 2015-04-19 15:01:49

Silva is taken from the field of play on a stretcher and replaced by Nasri.

at 2015-04-19 14:59:42

Seems that the Referee has been quite lenient on Kouyate after seeing the replay. Of course he doesn’t have the luxury of a replay but he was well positioned to view the challenge. This did appear different to the Silva challenge earlier which led to the yellow card for Silva so was the Referee influenced by Silva’s challenge earlier when judging this?

West Ham substitutions:

Nolan for Cole and Jarvis for Song.

at 2015-04-19 14:49:32

Good advantage by the Referee following offence by Song.

at 2015-04-19 14:47:49

Another corner to the home team.  Good viewing position adopted by the Referee.

at 2015-04-19 14:46:32

Although the offence seemed accidental, a card was expected and duly shown without any complaint by the offender.  This maintains the Referee’s authority and control level.

at 2015-04-19 14:44:48

Silva catches Reid with his elbow (somewhat accidentally ) but gets a yellow card Yellow Card

at 2015-04-19 14:43:08

A City corner-kick. Good to see very little holding and/or pushing.

West Ham are stuggling to contain the hosts and a third goal seems inevitable.

at 2015-04-19 14:37:33

Good offside judgement by Assistant Cann.

at 2015-04-19 14:36:34

Despite the warm sunny afternoon, the Referee is moving easily into good viewing positions and so far is able to inject an appreciable acceleration when having to deal with the quick counter-attacks. This ensures he his always in reasonable proximity.

at 2015-04-19 14:33:28

Referee gets hit by the ball. Lack of awareness of what was happening?

at 2015-04-19 14:31:30

Big mistake. Aguero scored the 2nd City goal not Navas. Senior moment !!!!!!!!

at 2015-04-19 14:23:23

Half Time

The first 45 minutes have really been a stroll in the sunshine for the home team. They have totally dominated proceedings and could well have been more than two goals in front. West Ham have shown very little threat and only managed the odd break, but giving up possession easily with unforced errors has meant they have been on the back foot for most of the game. From an Officials point of view it has been relatively straight forward. The one caution was expected and duly given which allowed the Referee to assert authority in a very “low key” manner. Hopefully the Officials will maintain concentration at a high level for the second half when surely the visitors will  provide much stiffer resistance. Rejoin us for the second half to see how things turn out.

1 minute added time is displayed by the 4th Official.

at 2015-04-19 14:14:34

Manchester City’s Fernando always appears to have so much time and space. Is this the same guy that ABBA sang about?

at 2015-04-19 14:09:10

A quick City counter-attack after West Ham again give the ball away almost leads to another goal. Fortunately Collins manages to block a shot.

at 2015-04-19 14:07:18

Superb move on the counter-attack after West Ham lose the ball and Navas makes it 2-0. GOAL!

at 2015-04-19 14:05:23

Navas commits late tackle from behind on Song and rightly is cautioned.Yellow Card

at 2015-04-19 14:00:39

Aguero fouls Song. The Referee well positioned to award the free-kick quickly followed by  a second. West Ham gradually getting more into the game.

at 2015-04-19 13:58:33

Navas caught after playing the ball. A good spot by the Referee to award City a free-kick.

at 2015-04-19 13:57:28

West Ham fortunate not to go a second goal down. Good block by Collins maybe makes up for his earlier mistake.

at 2015-04-19 13:56:04

The City goalkeeper appears to be impeded by an attacker as he clears the ball from hand. The Referee does not see this and hence Hart complains and the Referee has to have words with the goalkeeper.  Definately a foul by the attacker which wasn’t seen. A good learning point here. As a Referee always keep a “training eye” when the goalkeeper is clearing the ball then any offence by either player would be detected.

at 2015-04-19 13:50:58

A rare attack by West Ham but the attacker is caught offside. Good decision by the Assistant.

at 2015-04-19 13:49:41

West Ham are being caught in possession often and losing the ball. Reid commits a careless foul hence free-kick to City in a dangerous position.  West Ham defender Collins does not deal with the situation and hence he gives City an own goal which is registered on the goal-line technology to make it 1-0 to City. GOAL!

at 2015-04-19 13:44:10

Very sloppy play by West Ham… wil they be punished?

Let us have your thoughts throughout the game on

at 2015-04-19 13:42:40

West Ham appear very cautious probably because they have not won away for around 11 games. They are giving the ball away far too easily but as yet City have not been able to take advantage of this.

at 2015-04-19 13:40:14

8 minutes gone and the visitors have no tempo or attacking opportunities. Fernando’s challenge enables a West Ham free-kick. The Referee  in quickly to make the award.

at 2015-04-19 13:37:36

First foul as Zabeleta catches Song. Referee in quickly.

at 2015-04-19 13:34:20

Quite a few empty spaces in the crowd. This probably reflects City’s performances over the past few weeks. I think they need to give the crowd something to lift them. They force an early corner  with early pressure but can’t profit from it.

at 2015-04-19 13:31:08

We’re ready for the kick-off.  Frank Lampard wil be looking forward to playing against the club he started his career with.

The whistle blows and away we go.
