Match Officials Summary

AM at 2015-09-19 19:40:46

Well from the outset it has to be said that Bobby Madley has controlled this game in an effective manner, he has judged his involvement really well. He looked calm and relaxed throughout and would not be swayed by pressure from MC players and fans alike as they pressed relentlessly for an equaliser to the end. WHU used all the tactics possible as they looked to retain their lead. Bobby displayed good movement, positive body language and led the team well. I have just mentioned the positioning in my BLOG. that particularly as play approached the penalty areas – then a wider viewing angle would benefit in his judgement. Also a consideration to make sure that you always ensure the correct added time is added on, this is an area that the 4th Official can also help with in the 2nd half.

As for the Assistants then Mick McDonough has display an effective line all offside judgements correct and also good positioning taken up throughout the game.

Marc Perry will reflect on this game and look to work on his ball out of play judgements – 1st half from an incorrect ball out of play award – ck to MC a goal is then scored. Also a similar situation in the 2nd half  near the end- all of the ball must leave the field of play, out and over the goal line.

His positioning and movement are an area for his coach to work at for future games.

AM at 2015-09-19 19:27:22

Again, another ball out of play judgement from MP when again it has clearly not fully gone out of the field of play AND OVER THE GOAL LINE again an incorrect judgement from MP

AM at 2015-09-19 19:23:32

AM at 2015-09-19 19:22:14

CK to MC as MP jumps up and down on the spot not recommended – just keep calm and relaxed with both feet on the ground.

4 minutes added time

AM at 2015-09-19 19:20:15

From WHU ck a free kick is awarded to MC.

AM at 2015-09-19 19:19:19

Free kick to WHU good detection here and positive award

Great save by Adrian from a MC ck good viewing position taken up by RM

AM at 2015-09-19 19:15:45

More MC pressure with a further ck. Jenkinson 12 down on the ground again and he leaves the field of play to boos from MC fans –  12 off 19 on – defender off and on.

The Ref Show – 14th September 2015 (Part 1)

AM at 2015-09-19 19:12:23

CK given by RM as MP waits to see RMs judgement, no problem here if you are unsure best to wait and see, take your time don’t rush in and regret later..

AM at 2015-09-19 19:10:53

RM showing a very good acceleration towards the WHU penalty area again just a wider view across the edge of the penalty would give him the optimum view

AM at 2015-09-19 19:09:04

Lots of whistles as 12 Jenkinson WHU receives treatment from his physio. RM on hand to monitor and wave back on

AM at 2015-09-19 19:07:11

No penalty kick to MC again I would just like to see Bobby go that bit wider to judge, create a better viewing angle to see. Whilst correct he could not have seen the incident clearly from his position

AM at 2015-09-19 19:05:38

WHU fk again RM will need to aware of time delaying tactics

AM at 2015-09-19 19:04:48

Really important for Bobby and the team that they see this game home safely, they wont want to let this go now! full focus and concentration. Bobby has worked hard and needs to keep full focus as we close in on this game

AM at 2015-09-19 19:01:19

Further MC ck as they increase the pressure can WHU hold on to this lead?

Substitutions change patterns of play and as Match Officials you have to be aware of tactical changes in formation of play.

Tactical change see how this changes the pattern of play

AM at 2015-09-19 18:53:34

Interestingly MP got right to the goal line on that last decision almost as an extra movement to be in the right place to judge.

AM at 2015-09-19 18:52:24

No penalty kick to MC – RM waves his arms out wide as a communication to his decision making process. The pressure is mounting and RM will need to retain his calmness and composure

AM at 2015-09-19 18:50:22

RM is just looking a bit static as play moves around him, he would be better to keep on the move and adopt a better viewing angle away from player space

WHU sub 20 off 30 on

AM at 2015-09-19 18:48:30

Free kick to WHU. any stoppage against MC. will be hotly contested by players and fans alike as they look to get back in the game

AM at 2015-09-19 18:47:19

No free kick to MC. correct given confidently with a strong body language, keep an eye on this area of RM`s refereeing attributes

AM at 2015-09-19 18:45:48

Yellow Card

Kolarov 11 reckless correct this challenge was no different to Otamendi`s though in the 1st half when no yellow shown

AM at 2015-09-19 18:43:29

MC half hearted penalty appeals and RM with a good and clear view waves correctly away

AM at 2015-09-19 18:41:21

MC attacking as we start the 2nd half. FK to WHU good strong blast of the whistle from RM again good strong arm / hand signal seen

AM at 2015-09-19 18:39:29

GK to WHU given by RM followed by a MC fk

AM at 2015-09-19 18:37:46

Advantage to WHU – Bobby is working hard and showing an effective sprint as seen in the last WHU attack as he comes across the MC penalty area to view

2nd half underway

AM at 2015-09-19 18:35:59

Half time sub – MC

AM at 2015-09-19 18:35:43

MC sub 20 off 26 on

Half time Summary

AM at 2015-09-19 18:32:24

Bobby Madley has overall controlled this game and shown good player management – 2 yellow shown just the Otamendi yellow which was missed. Good movement seen and good acceleration on the breakaway. I would just like to see him move wider towards the penalty areas on attacks and create a wider viewing angle. Good teamwork and a positive body language seen.

Marc Perry – For the 2nd WHU goal he has awarded a CK to WHU from a position some 2 metres down the touchline he could not be sure and in my opinion has guessed this decision. Also his positioning is somewhat out in terms of offside judgement – 2nd rearmost defender. Replays at half time show that the ball has not fully gone over the goal line and out of play.

Mick McDonough has carried out his duties as expected with some good offside judgements and positioning seen

Half time

AM at 2015-09-19 18:21:24

Half Time

AM at 2015-09-19 18:20:59

Yellow Card

Obiang WHU/ reckless – I think Toure`s pace here and angle has made this challenge look worse and a yellow card is correct.

AM at 2015-09-19 18:18:36

Late challenge on a WHU player. RM right to hold his gaze and award no advantage here at all

AM at 2015-09-19 18:17:20

What a time to score just before half time – 1-2

AM at 2015-09-19 18:16:24

4 mins added time

AM at 2015-09-19 18:15:28

Have you noticed that the referee and MC gk are wearing the same colour shirts this is not in accordance with law as they stand together both in yellow!. Basic, but should be checked pre match!!

AM at 2015-09-19 18:12:46

On the last MC attack I would just like to see RM break wide and create an angle wide of the penalty area, rather than stopping and anticipating play

AM at 2015-09-19 18:10:59

No MC offside which is correct as Adrian saves with RM well placed to judge any potential KMI

AM at 2015-09-19 18:09:19

Strong whistle from RM – no further action against Otamendi? this for me was reckless and a challenge from behind a yellow card would have been correct here and remember we discussed earlier consistency in this respect

AM at 2015-09-19 18:06:32

Offside correct from MM – WHU absorb as much time as possible before taking the kick. RM will need to be aware of this

AM at 2015-09-19 18:05:27

For the WHU. 2nd goal there was no offside, but for me the ball had not fully gone over the goal line for the WHU ck. Look at MP`s position he is not in line on the goal line. Video review would have confirmed this fact. I am sure this be analysed at half / full time

AM at 2015-09-19 18:03:07

MP is just out of line and is forward of the 2nd rearmost defender. He needs to get in line. CK awarded by MP from a position NOT on the goal line. I think he has guessed here as could not be sure that the ball had fully crossed the goal line? he was not in line with the goal line to judge

AM at 2015-09-19 17:59:34

Appeals for Handball against WHU. RM right there to say no and wave away. Then offside from MM spot on and also did you notice his position in line with the 2nd rearmost defender

AM at 2015-09-19 17:56:10

Offside from MM did you notice how RM thought, paused and waited he then played the advantage to WHU – well done RM

AM at 2015-09-19 17:53:36

Yellow Card

Lanzini 28 WHU. correct – reckless challenge. No messing about from RM as he sets out his tolerance level on what will be accepted and not tonight

AM at 2015-09-19 17:51:43

Confident start from Bobby he is looking confident, showing good movement, positive body language and judging incidents well whilst leading the team

AM at 2015-09-19 17:48:24

Again good crisp arm / hand signals from RM keep an eye on this area of RM`s body language as it portrays confidence and looks effective

AM at 2015-09-19 17:46:22

WH offside from MP

AM at 2015-09-19 17:46:00

RM leads MP on a throw in to WH good teamwork seen here – also good positive hand / arm signals seen from RM

AM at 2015-09-19 17:43:39

Noble 16 late advantage played but for me it would have been better to just stop and give the free kick no real advantage here – RM speaks to Noble good player management

AM at 2015-09-19 17:41:56

Mick McDonough – AR is on the Technical Area touchline

AM at 2015-09-19 17:40:59

Quick breakaway by MC sees RM moving swiftly Adrian comes out and fortunately makes no contact gk to WH

AM at 2015-09-19 17:39:48

Marc Perry awards a throw in to MC however it is a foul throw in – correctly spotted by RM and the throw in is then taken by MC. Good to see the referee on the ball at the start of the game and applying law correctly

AM at 2015-09-19 17:36:48

GOAL! Well what a start to this game Moses score to make it 0-1 – replays show what a great shot it was this will up the tempo

AM at 2015-09-19 17:34:41

Early penalty appeals for handball against WH more hopeful though from the fans

AM at 2015-09-19 17:32:52

MM chases down to the goal line to judge ball in / out on the goal line

AM at 2015-09-19 17:32:12

Good early viewing position from RM as the ball enters the MC penalty area

AM at 2015-09-19 17:30:15

Good luck to all the match officials tonight as we kick off

Robert Madley – Referee

AM at 2015-09-19 17:27:52

Robert Madley made his debut as a referee in the Barclays Premier League when he took charge of Southampton’s encounter with West Bromwich Albion in April 2013, after plying his trade in the Football League for four seasons as a National list official.

The West Yorkshire-based referee began officiating in 2002 and worked his way up to the Football League and professional cup competitions in the 2009/10 campaign, making his debut in the middle when Northampton Town took on Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup in November 2009.

Madley oversaw matches predominantly in League One and League Two in the following two campaigns, but his first task of refereeing a top-flight team came when Everton hosted non-league Tamworth in the FA Cup.

In the 2012/13 season, Madley was regularly the man in the middle for matches in the Championship, as well as a selection of lower league, League Cup and FA Cup ties, and he made his top-flight debut at St Mary’s Stadium. Subsequently, he has earned a spot in the Select Group of Premier League officials from the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season.

Madley was in charge of the first and second leg of the 2014/15 FA Youth Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester City.

So far this Season Bobby has refereed 4 Premier League games showing 14 yellow and 1 red card in his game last weekend – Watford v Swansea – red card for Behrami for Serious foul play.

Bobby has made a good start to this season and we very much hope that this continues tonight.

Reflections on Chelsea v Arsenal at Lunchtime today

AM at 2015-09-19 17:17:08

Did you manage to see the Lunchtime Encounter between Chelsea and Arsenal – Costa involved in X rated stuff and in our Ref Cam Expert (Glenn Turner`s) final analysis quoted:

” The final verdict on today’s game…Costa won it for Chelsea, but through getting away with a red card whilst drawing one from his opponent, rather than via good play.

Time to go home referees, have a good look at your performances today and decide what you are going to do to make sure you never do that again.”

What are your thoughts on a general poor performance all round from all our Match Officials today at Chelsea, who failed to spot and in particular see the Costa incident just prior to half time. If neither match official can see this going on then surely video review has to move a step closer. Can the FA take further action? will they?

A very good evening and welcome to this REF CAM Commentary game. The game is being played at The Etihad Stadium (City of Manchester Stadium) Manchester. Manchester City Football Club is a football club in Manchester, England. Founded in 1880 as St. Mark’s, they became Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 and Manchester City in 1894.
