Full time Summary –

Well you may be asking why on earth are these key match incidents continuing to happen? we are only 90. seconds into the first FA Premier League game of the weekend (the best league in the world) and already we have a major incorrect decision made! If the best league in the world then why not the best decision makers then? these match officials are paid very well to get these straight forward key decisions correct, but on current form they are woefully coming up short. Never before can I remember a season with so many high profile erorrs. This question has to be answered by Mike Riley the PGMOL Chief, but sadly I fear there will be no response. Step up Howard Webb this is your big opportunity to shine just like the weather at The Etihad!

KMI Errors – 90 seconds into the game -25 Dawson WBA makes the foul on Bony 14 MC denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity, referee blows his whistle. Referee NS not in a good view, straight and some way behind play and there is then another challenge on Bony 14 by McCauley 23 in the WBA defending penalty area. NS then shows 23 of WBA a Red Card sends off 23 McCauley in which case why was a penalty kick to MC not then given? even though the whole thing is a right mess. Why could not Neil Swarbrick`s 3 colleagues have helped? are they lacking confidence or afraid to get involved? what has happened to team work and helping our colleagues out and by the way we desperately need video review. 2nd goal to MC should have been disallowed just before the goal for a foul (20 MC high foot on 18 WBA)

When incorrect red cards are shown should the Captain of the offending team be able to talk to the referee and discuss this issue?

Apart from these 2 KMI decisions the referees positioning was poor throughout as mentioned in my BLOG. Both Assistants covered offside well but will be remembered for not wanting to get involved at the KMI decision after 90 seconds. Also the 4th Official should and could have assisted here, they had time then why not use it!!

As players just go through the motion, Morrison is then flagged offside by DB and the referee NS then brings this controversial game to an end.Full Time

FIFA’s top refereeing executive has criticised the standard of Premier League referees this season.

Jim Boyce, chairman of FIFA’s referees committee, has questioned the number of “blunders” and “poor decisions.”

Boyce did not highlight specific incidents, but claimed more training must be offered to match officials.

“I have watched many games in the Premier League this season and I have to say I think the standard is not as good as, perhaps, it should be.” Boyce told Sky Sports News HQ outside FIFA headquarters in Zurich.

What are your thoughts on the current standard of Refereeing on the Premier League?

Replays are again showing the incorrect kmi red card in the first minute, how decisions can change games and this is certainly the case in this game

Free kick to WBA better position adopted by NS to judge and award

at 2015-03-21 15:17:28

18 WBA hits the bar with a great effort, if that had gone in that would have made it interesting!

at 2015-03-21 15:16:24

Free kick awarded to WBA after a delay no advantage signal seen so we can only assume player reaction has decided this decision. Is this an area that is creeping into our game?

at 2015-03-21 15:14:03

We have discussed a number of free kicks missed and incorrect KMI decisions this has to be down to the referees positioning as he is not picking up challenges and identifying the players making these challenges. Keep an eye on NS`s positioning for the remainder of this game.

at 2015-03-21 15:11:50

Olsson 3 of WBA commits a RECKLESS challenge on Hart (knee into Harts stomach area) WITH NO FREE KICK AWARDED? If seen by the referee then I am sure a free kick and yellow card would have been issued. CK to WBA and advantage then played to MC

at 2015-03-21 15:08:27

Free kick to WBA and massive cheers from the WBA fans.

18 off 35 on MC sub

at 2015-03-21 15:06:37

MS has bright sunlight and shade to contend with this always adds concentration skills when on the line for key and crucial offside judgements, he will be busy in this area in this half.

at 2015-03-21 15:04:48

Morrison 7 of WBA has shirt pulled no free kick awarded, he stops expecting  a free kick with NS unsighted and not seeing the shirt pull on Morrison. It is the old saying keep playing until the whistle blows

at 2015-03-21 15:02:42

Lampard has a great effort against the post, Bony hits the bar as more of the same continues to attack the WBA goal.

at 2015-03-21 15:01:22

This match is effectively over as a contest as WBA have not recovered from the first minute red card. If a boxing match then it would be effectively over as WBA have not really tested Hart as yet in the MC goal.

at 2015-03-21 14:59:40

Offside against Gardner of WBA from DB

at 2015-03-21 14:59:09

The ball is played into Augero 16 MC and no offside flag from Salisbury, tight but it looks correct.

at 2015-03-21 14:57:18

BT Commentators are saying at half time that NS has conceded he sent off the wrong man. He got the number wrong in which case why did he not get any help from his team? and this would have been an ideal to use video review if we cannot get these KMI decisions correct!

at 2015-03-21 14:54:52

Good strike from Bony just goes wide of the WBA post

at 2015-03-21 14:54:05

No free kick awarded to MC as Augero goes to ground under a challenge from a WBA Player, replays show that a free kick should have been awarded, is the first half and the 2 KMI`S against WBA playing on NS`S mind?

at 2015-03-21 14:50:18

Michael Salisbury on the far touchline is showing good explosive sprinting as MC attack.

NS blows the whistle for the 2nd half

at 2015-03-21 14:48:36

NS will need to be focussed for the 2nd half as discussions at half time will no doubt be playing on his mind after his shocking error in the first minute of the game.

at 2015-03-21 14:45:40

Half Time Summary –

Well it only took seconds before we saw a continuation of what has been a disastrous season for PGMOL Chief Mike Riley.

KMI Errors – 25 Dawson MC makes the foul on Bony 14 MC deny`s an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Referee NS not in a good view, straight behind play blows the whistle and there is another challenge on Bony 14 by McCauley 23 in the WBA defending penalty area. NS sends off 23 McCauley in which case why was a penalty kick to MC not then given? even though the whole thing is a right mess. Why could not Neil Swarbrick`s 3 colleagues have helped? are they lacking confidence or afraid to get involved? what has happened to team work and by the way we desperately need video review.

2nd goal to MC should have been disallowed just before the goal for a foul (high foot) on WBA player.

Are you ready for the 2nd half?

at 2015-03-21 14:34:54

Half Time

As the referee blows the whistle for half time – WBA Players incensed at NS`s` first half performance, question 2 KMI decisions which have quite clearly gone against WBA.

2 MINUTES ADDED TIME

at 2015-03-21 14:31:11

Going back to the MC 2nd goal as mentioned in my blog there was no free kick awarded to WBA when in my opinion there should have been for a high foot on a WBA player more to follow at HT. Replays confirm this fact.

at 2015-03-21 14:29:04

NS is getting too close to play and almost getting hit by the ball, he needs to move wider and adjust his patrol path.

at 2015-03-21 14:27:26

CK to MC. with no free kick to WBA.

GOAL! Fernando 6 of MC SCORES

at 2015-03-21 14:24:26

As we approach HT. NS will be very grateful for the slow pace and the fact that WBA are just content to defend, with no further issues to date.

at 2015-03-21 14:22:38

FK to MC and the spray is out, I have a feeling that defensive players are just starting to encroach over the line..

at 2015-03-21 14:20:32

Good pressing and movement from MC. NS is looking to get in the best position to view but is tending to be caught fairly central and this was the problem on the incorrect KMI player detection – his position was well behind play and looking down the barrel he needed to have a wider view to make AN ACCURATE JUDGEMENT.

at 2015-03-21 14:11:47

Following today`s red card to Mc Cauley 23 WBA which should have been Dawson 25 WBA it can only add fuel to the fire as below:

FIFA’s top refereeing executive has criticised the standard of Premier League referees this season.

Jim Boyce, chairman of FIFA’s referees committee, has questioned the number of “blunders” and “poor decisions.”

Boyce did not highlight specific incidents, but claimed more training must be offered to match officials.

“I have watched many games in the Premier League this season and I have to say I think the standard is not as good as, perhaps, it should be.” Boyce told Sky Sports News HQ outside FIFA headquarters in Zurich.

“I think there are far too many, what I would call, poor decisions being made. Every week you see the analysts discussing all the refereeing blunders that appear to be made.

“Refereeing is a very, very difficult job. They can only give what they see but I think there has to be much more training given, not only to the referees, but to the assistant referees as well. It’s a very high profile game now.

“There is a lot of money at stake. There are manager careers at stake. We have to try and get more decisions right. Overall I don’t think it has been as good as it has been in the past.”

FIFA vice-president Boyce, who is Britain’s most senior football official, has no plans to contact the Premier League over the matter but believes the standard of refereeing at last year’s World Cup in Brazil has set the highest standard for officials.

“Most people would agree the refereeing in the World Cup was of a pretty high standard.” Boyce added.

“People argued perhaps there should been more yellow or red cards handed out. This World Cup had the least number of injuries of any players in any World Cup. I don’t honestly think any team could go back from the World Cup saying they went home because of bad refereeing decisions.”

Boyce also believes match officials would benefit from additional training and education courses.

“I saw the amount of training that was done between referees and assistant referees, it was phenomenal.” he added.

“Howard Webb, who was one of the referees at the World Cup, said to me this was the ‘best preparation that I have ever had in all my experience in football’. There has to be much more education and much more work done, actually on the pitch, with the referees and the assistants to make sure that they, hopefully, can get more decisions correct.”

FIFA’s vice-president has also urged referees to book more players for surrounding match officials, after the Football Association reported a “scary” increase in the number of incidents this season.

“My own personal preference would be referees take stronger action against these players, and issue more yellow cards.” said Boyce. “It is the only deterrent. It can’t continue. It is happening too often. It has to be laid at the feet of coaches and managers, you have to have discipline. Hopefully this will get through to the players.”

Boyce believes that only team captains should approach referees, after the FA warned more than a hundred English clubs, across five divisions, of player discipline three months ago.

“We have seen a pretty scary increase this season in the number of clubs charged with their players surrounding referees.” said Greg Dyke, FA chairman, earlier this week.

“I agree with him (Dyke), far too much of it is happening.” added Boyce.

Good effort from Silva well saved by Myhill of WBA.

Correct offside flag from Dave Bryan on 16 of MC

at 2015-03-21 14:06:26

MC continue to press with WBA on the defensive, with only one player up front.

at 2015-03-21 14:05:13

NS must be glad of a quiet period as he plays an advantage to MC. The red incident must be affecting his concentration and he will be glad of this slower and quiet period.

at 2015-03-21 14:03:52

Assistant Referees Michael Salisbury is on the far touchline and the experienced  Dave Bryan is on the near side touchline. Surely DB could and should have made an intervention on the incorrect red card. Bring on video review, unfortunately it has been deferred for a year and how the FA must be regretting this.

at 2015-03-21 14:00:40

Going back to the red card for McCauley, the referee NS in the crucial first few seconds was not switched on, not in the best position and made a KMI incorrect judgement. Where was the help? why can Tony Pulis be sure of this incorrect KMI and neither Referee or his 3 Colleagues get it right? More to follow about this I am sure….

What are your thoughts? Contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com

From the kick off you have to be fully focussed and in the first few seconds Neil Swarbrick has send off the incorrect player of WBA. Was he switched on from the kick off? what about the other 3 Officials could they not have helped him?  If McCauley 23 of WBA IS THEN SENT OFF THEN SURELY IT HAS TO BE A PENALTY KICK TO MC. What a shocking start to the weekends Premier League games and will be more for Hacketts Blog and add fuel to Jim Boyces FIFA Referees Chief comments of yesterday. This surely has to be the time for video review.

Early free kick to MC, followed by a free kick to

Red Card

MC 25 WBA makes the challenge on 14 MC. Mcauley sent off 23 should be Dawson 25 of WBA? Dawson 25 makes the first challenge which NS appeared to give. He has then sent off 23 McCauley who made the 2nd challenge, just after.  In my opinion 25 Dawson should have been sent off and not 23 McCauley for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

AM at 2015-03-21 13:33:00

What a super afternoon!, bright sunshine and ideal conditions for football. A warm welcome to this afternoon’s live REF CAM SKY game which is to be played at The Etihad Stadium the home of Manchester City in England.

As Manchester City return home from their Champions League exploits, and on the back of a shock defeat at Burnley, all eyes will be on the Etihad to see just how well City can recover.

How will Referee Neil Swarbrick approach this one? he usually portrays a calm manner and looks to allow the game to flow where possible.

His last game was last weekend Sunderland 0 Aston Villa 4.

His one red card shown so far this season was in the Aston Villa v Spurs game on the 02.11.2014.

He certainly won’t want any unnecessary and extra focus on the game, so a very important 90 minutes ahead for the official.
