Post match thoughts what are yours?

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:56:49

We discussed at the start of my BLOG a number of key areas for the referee and team to focus upon. My verdict after seeing in the 2nd half 4 key match decisions is that this was a refereeing performance that was outstanding in all aspects.

4 penalty kicks and Manuel de Sousa would have received support from his AAR but they were all spot on.

70th -award of a penalty kick to MC correct -foul on Sane

75th – no penalty kick to Shaktar correct not deliberate handball from Stones

77th – no penalty kick to MC correct – Sane goes down in a challenge with a Shaktar player no foul –

82nd minute – no penalty kick to MC correct – Sterling goes down over an outstretched leg of a Shaktar player in real time and on replay a top drawer decision.

Key attributes of the referees performance were – all kmd`s correct – with the support of the eyes of his team and no VAR!

Player Management, 1 yellow card was correct, Empathy for the game, fitness and positioning to make those key match decisions, signals all as listed in my BLOG.

a terrific refereeing and team performance, well done all round indication of good preparation, focus, fitness ,concentration and teamwork all key ingredients on a top drawer refereeing performance. Well done.

GOAL! 2-0 Sterling – from a level NON OFFSIDE position good non offside flag from the far side AR Santos

Shaktar sub Bernard off Petriak on

MC Penalty appeals - 82nd minute

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:30:57

Replays confirm no penalty kick is correct as Sterling literally ran out of space in the Shaktar penalty area as he went over an outstretched Shaktar leg.

83 - MC sub

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:28:14

Aguero off B Silva on

82

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:27:30

No penalty kick to MC as Sterling over runs into the penalty area this looks correct as he seemed to run out of places to go.

80

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:24:42

MC sub – Silva off to be replaced by Gundogan

Shaktar sub - 78

77

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:22:39

No penalty to MC is correct and confirmed by replay as SANE takes a tumble in the penalty area in a challenge with a SHAKTAR player.

75

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:21:22

No penalty to Shaktar is correct as the ball is played from close range and is not deliberate hand ball by Stones.

73

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:18:48

Stoppage in play as Taison receives treatment and then leaves the field of play to await his recall back onto the field of play by the referee.

71

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:16:15

Penalty kick is saved

70

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:15:17

Great movement and position from our match referee to award MC a penalty kick – ORDETS FOUL ON SANE – no hesitation in correctly awarding.

68

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:13:12

The Refereeing team are all keeping low profile at the moment and rightly so, keep an eye on their teamwork and eye to eye contact they are all working really well together.

Yellow Card

Ordets of Shaktar becomes the first yellow card for that reckless challenge –

64

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:09:30

Offside against MC

62

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:08:53

Game and Player management have been a key feature so far in our referee`s performance. Let us hope he continues with this impressive aspect of his refereeing skills.

60

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:05:45

Good signal throw in technique from our nearside assistant. Basic but correct in law and looks effective.

60

Good signal throw in technique from our nearside assistant. Basic but correct in law and looks effective.

57

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:01:49

Silva is penalised for a high foot careless challenge.

55

RCT at 2017-09-26 21:00:07

In that last Shaktar throw in did you notice the referee award and then move to his next position. Thinking ahead to your next position is key.

51

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:57:06

GOAL!De Bruyne 1-0 – This will change tempo

47

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:53:07

Close movement from our referee in that last MC attack, good spin and turn as he changes and turns away, keeping his view on the ball.

46

Early fk to MC

MC to kick off the 2nd half

We are underway.

Half time thoughts

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:43:21

We discussed at the start of my BLOG a number of key areas for the referee to focus upon tonight and also for us to learn from. My verdict so far is that his game empathy has been outstanding moving in and out of the game using his whistle to super effect and making it talk for him. Positive communication with the players who clearly are showing him the upmost respect. Good support from his team as well. Now the referee team will need to continue in the 2nd half and build on the first half match control.

FK to Shaktar is correct despite Sane`s facial expression!

1 minute of additional time is shown by Pereira

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:32:27

43

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:31:34

Good non offside flag from Santos – close but level when the ball was played by the Shaktar player.

42

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:30:00

As we move to half time the referee and team will be totally focussed to get to half time now with no cards and then to reflect and prepare for the 2nd half

39

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:28:10

FK to Shaktar is correct following a careless challenge by the MC player the referee correctly penalises with a good use of the whistle and play then restarts and continues.

38

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:26:20

Walker offside is correct although on replay the Assistant is out of line with the 2nd rearmost defender. Key is to always be in line with 2nd rearmost defender to make offside judgements.

Additional Assistant Referees

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:24:43

UEFA are continuing with their use of AAR`s what are your thoughts vs Video Assistant Referees?

34

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:21:59

Again very good movement and position from our referee as play quickly switches from a Shaktar attack to a MC attack.

31

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:20:01

No fk to MC – again a close position from our referee ensures a calm and consistent approach to the game. No fk.

29 - MC go close with that last effort good position from our referee

fk to K

25

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:13:27

FK to Shaktar is correctly awarded close in front of the technical areas.

23

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:10:33

G Jesus is just offside and correctly signalled by our nearside Assistant Mesquita.

21

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:09:29

In that last MC attack for me the MC player is level when the ball is played and disappointingly the flag is raised for Offside by Mesquita

20

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:07:32

FK to MC sees our referee use some early calming words of advice for the Shaktar player.

18

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:06:25

Did the whole of the ball go out of play in that last MC attack I am afraid not – confirmed by replay. The whole of the Football must go out of play and over the touchline.

17

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:04:40

Good use of the whistle for that last challenge – good to make your whistle talk for you. This has so far been a positive aspect of our referee tonight.

15

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:02:34

Our 4th Official is looking very proactive on the touchline Nuno Pereira

13

RCT at 2017-09-26 20:01:17

Clear and positive arm signals from our referee for that last Shaktar throw in – these are all attributes that make your refereeing performance that bit more special.

11

RCT at 2017-09-26 19:59:24

In that last Shaktar attack did you notice the excellent position of the referee who is right there to judge no penalty and then ck to Shaktar – effortless movement and reading of the game.

9

RCT at 2017-09-26 19:56:41

Good backwards and side movement by our referee keeps him close to play to award a fk to Shaktar

7

RCT at 2017-09-26 19:55:17

No offside against Augero – Assistant well in line and position to judge and confirmed by replay.

4

RCT at 2017-09-26 19:52:42

1st offside tonight against MC – signalled by nearside Assistant Mesquita

2

RCT at 2017-09-26 19:51:10

Good early movement and concentration seen from Manuel de Sousa. Additional Assistant Referees add that extra pair of eyes tonight.
