Post match de-brief

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:55:55

The Referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz from Spain has demonstrated high levels of work rate which has moved him into credible positions to make his key match judgements tonight.

2 penalties to Napoli correctly identified and awarded – I penalty saved and I scored.

2 GOAL LINE DECISONS in the 1st half used -ball not over goal line.

2 Penalties not awarded to Napoli in the 2nd half and are correct particularly the non award to Napoli when the ball (on replay) yes we have to look again to see what a super decision in real time it was not to award as the ball hit Stones in the chest not the arm.

How has Lahoz achieved all these important key match decisions?

He has displayed a range of running styles as open play has dictated. Good transition from defensive positions towards attacking play as this has developed and he has allowed play to build up in front of him, particularly during City attacks. Great viewing angles achieved by Lahoz and optimum positions achieved for those all important key match decisions.

The Referee was firm on dissent as De-Bruyne found out just before half time. A firm line was correctly taken here. Players thought twice about it in the 2nd half.

All yellow cards were correct and aided Lahoz`s match control and player management.

Please see my BLOG were I have highlighted a number of really positive areas of this referee`s performance tonight! we can all learn.

His fitness levels were as good as I have seen for a very long time.

Well done Antonio Mateu Lahoz, very impresseive all round refereeing performance and after all the key match decisions tonight correctly called and identified then who needs VAR?

My summary will follow…..

90+5

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:39:00

Full Time

2-1 – A key and important win for City.

90+2

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:38:14

The ball is just fully out of play for a gk to Napoli again the Additional Assistant would have assisted the referee here and is correct.

90+1

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:36:41

Foul on Sane again no further action needed or required. Spray is out for the management of this City fk.

5 minutes of added time minimum are shown by our 4th Official

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:35:02

88

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:33:59

The Referee awards a fk to City and he then runs into the scene of the incident to just make his presence felt and that was all that was needed. No further action.

Chelsea v Roma tomorrow night!

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:31:56

Why not tune in again tomorrow night when you can follow Chelsea v Roma from the referee’s perspective with a kick off at 19.45 hours UK time.

Then, this Friday we will be covering West Ham United v Brighton what a crucial early season encounter on a Friday night at The Olympic Stadium London. England (with no Andy Carroll in the West Ham line up following his 2 yellow cards and red card at Burnley last Saturday) with a 20.00 hours kick off UK time.

83

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:30:08

Napoli GK look at Lahoz`s position as he comes racing into the Napoli penalty area to judge no arguments here why? because he got into the perfect position to make the correct judgement and the players knew it. He was not trundling over the half way line and guessing as we do sometimes report on REFCAM!

81

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:26:59

To date all Yellow Card  cards have been correct and consistent. Foul tackles and dissent have all been correctly identified to aid Lahoz`s match control.

78

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:23:20

Yellow Card

Maggio reckless on Sane and a yellow card is the correct outcome.

Albiol Yellow Cardfollowing his foul and the subsequent advantage played to City. Yellow card at the next stoppage.

74

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:19:17

Great advantage to City by Lahoz as Jesus runs on and puts the ball into the Napoli goal but is correctly flagged offside. Confirmed on replay.

71

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:17:04

Penalty kick to Napoli the 2nd of the game spot on foul by Fernandinho.

72 minute GOAL! penalty kick is scored. 2-1.

69 - City Sub

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:13:14

Sterling off to be replaced by Bernardo Silva.

64 - key match decision

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:11:56

A truly great decision no penalty kick to NAPOLI as the ball quite clearly hits Stones on the chest. Great decision all round by the Match Officials. I think the Additional Assistant on the goal line would have made this judgement.

The Napoli Manager thinks otherwise as he jumps up and down on the touchline, pointing to his arm. The 4th Official tries to calm him down.

62

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:07:38

A very long ball by Napoli sees the referee slow up, he can do so as he has an Additional Assistant and Assistant if needs to be judge.

No penalty kick to Napoli is correct on replay again good position and proximity to play achieved by Lahoz.

60

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:04:50

Lahoz has certainly obtained close proximity to play and good viewing angles throughout to add credibility to his decision making process.

58

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:03:21

Good advantage to City and the referee then correctly awards a free kick to City.

52 - A talking point and understanding game empathy

RCT at 2017-10-17 21:02:15

The Assistant Deviz is shouting at Eddison as the ball goes out of play and over the touchhline and Eddison then carries the ball back from his position on the touchline. What in this situation can Eddision as a goal keeper do though? he has to get back into his penalty area. Is he supposed to just throw the ball to a NAPOLI player and say ok carry on while I am on the touchline? and then start running to his penalty area. The referee sensibly does not overeact in this situation and just a calming word is correct to the Napoli player. The Assistant should understand this and shouting at Eddision does not help matters. Game empathy is key to understand at this or any level.

49

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:55:18

Again, I have to mention the movement and transition from defensive play through midfield as City attack and on into attacking play by Lahoz look at his head movement keeping all in view as he is running. So much to watch and learn from this referee tonight.

Foul by Sterling correctly awarded. How do you think our Referee Lahoz has performed so far?

Napoli kick off the 2nd half

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:48:49

Half Time Summary

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:47:40

The Referee Lahoz to half time has demonstrated high levels of work rate which has moved him into credible positions to make his key judgements. He has displayed a range of styles as open play has dictated. Good transition from defensive positions towards attacking play as this has developed and he has allowed play to build up in front of him, particularly during City attacks.

Also, we have seen the correct award of a penalty kick to NAPOLI in the 36th minute. The Referee has been firm on dissent as De-Bruyne has found out just before half time. A firm line has been correctly taken here.

A very good half from our Refere Lahoz from Spain. More in the 2nd half please.

45

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:34:23

Half Time

The half time whistle is blown by Lahoz to signal half time and City lead 2-0.

43

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:32:50

Yellow Card

De-Bruyne for dissent the referee is correctly taking a very firm line on this area. Well done.

42

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:31:43

Foul by Silva and well done to our referee for not over reacting to the Napoli player`s reaction. Just careless and no more.

40

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:30:01

Del Palomar Assistant far side is suddenly in the action with an offside flag against Napoli

39

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:29:01

Fk to City awarded by the Referee there was no need for a confirmatory flag from our Assistant Devis. As an Assistant you either need to be first to signal or await the referee to award if he is better placed to judge.

36

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:26:18

Penalty kick to NAPOLI awarded for a foul by Walker looks spot on and the referee shows Walker a Yellow Cardcorrect decision.

Penalty kick is saved by Eddision

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:21:53

The Assistant Del Palomar has had a quiet first half on the far side. But he needs to remain focussed and fully concentrated as he could well be involved at any time in this game.

29

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:18:39

The referee correctly awards a fk to NAPOLI from a position close and credible to award. Again this adds credibility to your decision making.

26

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:16:11

Fk to City as Lahoz marches the defensive wall back. Spray out and from the fk the ball again is very close to going over the goal line but not fully according to GOAL DECISION TECHNOLOGY

24

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:13:56

Good advantage from Lahoz as City go on and De-Bruyne hits the cross bar and the ball does not go fully over the line. Goal line Technology – NO GOAL

23

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:12:04

In that last City attack did you notice how the referee moved and slowed down as he had his additional referee behind the touchline viewing in to play. Good teamwork in evidence in that last City attack.

21

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:10:02

4th Official Magan is looking pro active in the Technical Areas. His body language looks positive as he keeps a low key profile on matters.

19

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:08:26

Good pace and movement in that last City attack sees our referee arrive right on time as a challenge is made by a Napoli player on a City player. He was right there to judge no penalty.

17

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:06:57

As the referee moves in that last Napoli attack he displayed a very good turn and head movement as he runs keeping all in view. This is good practice and worth keeping an eye on.

14

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:04:57

The Assistant Referee on the nearside Devis then moves towards the ball and show his football talent as he kicks the ball towards the player taking the free kick. This is not good practice and one which I would advise all Officials not to copy it looked unprofessional and is poor practice.

13

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:01:59

GOAL!

Jesus scores from a great cross from De-Bruyne to make it 2-0.

11

RCT at 2017-10-17 20:00:26

Corner kick to City keep an eye on the referees position for the restarts this is the optimum position to take as a referee at corner kicks it will give you the best view and angle.

9

RCT at 2017-10-17 19:58:22

Good advantage to City as Lahoz goes wide down the left channel showing very good pace and movement.

9

RCT at 2017-10-17 19:57:11

GOAL!

Sterling scores to make it 1-0 to City

6

RCT at 2017-10-17 19:56:31

The Assistant Devis on the nearside touchline awards a throw in to Napoli and got caught up with play. He would have been better moving away down the touchline rather than getting caught up with play.

3

RCT at 2017-10-17 19:53:19

First free kick to Napoli is correct foul by De Bruyne – if you don’t award that free kick early on or at any time in the game then as a referee you will be in trouble with your match control. Despite out commentator saying there was no foul.

2

RCT at 2017-10-17 19:50:48

When we last saw Lahoz against Monaco I mentioned about his impressive fitness and foul detection. Let us see how he performs tonight. Good luck to all Match Officials.

Tonight`s Referee - Antonio Mateu Lahoz

RCT at 2017-10-17 19:31:57

Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz has been appointed for tonight`s Champions League tie between Manchester City and Napoli at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester England.

The 40-year-old took charge of City’s thrilling 5-3 win over Monaco in Manchester and included in that game booking Sergio Aguero for diving when the Argentine had been clearly fouled.

Lahoz previously took charge of City’s Champions League Round of 16 tie against Dynamo Kyiv in February 2016, which saw City win 3-1 over in Ukraine.

Pre Match Warm Up

Good evening and welcome to this RefCam game as Manchester City play Napoli in the Champions League at The Etihad Stadium in Manchester England.
