Match Summary

AM at 2015-12-08 22:55:15

Key Match Decisions Tonight –

54th minute and 76th minute no penalty kicks to MC both incidents judged correctly by our referee and in the case of the 2nd non penalty kick then he would have received very good support from his AAR2 – NO HANDBALL.

Offside – 2 Key Match Decisions BOTH CORRECT FROM OUR FAR SIDE AR – HS. Who has correctly judged not offside – again his position as mentioned in my BLOG backs up both decisions and confirmed by replay.

As for Danny Makkelie at 32 years old from Holland and relatively inexperienced referee at this level, then he is clearly a referee to watch for the future at the highest level. I have been really impressed tonight with his overall high fitness and stamina levels. Very good sprints and acceleration when needed as I have made reference to in my BLOG. He was always close to play and showed anticipative and efficient positioning. Entering the penalty areas as and when was required for those Key Match Decisions.

He achieved full match control throughout this game and I made reference in the 11 minute to a borderline challenge by the BM player and the referee showed real game empathy by speaking to this player and this for me was a defining moment in the game. Players also played their part in the respect that they had for this referee.

Both Assistants played their part very well. All offside judgements were correct and are as I have identified as Key Match Decisions.

Both gave good support in terms of free kick awards and also for ball out of play decisions which were signalled with eye contact firstly with the referee and then by their directional signal.

Both AARs gave really good support, particularly for the non penalty kick award to MC in the 76the minute.

All in all a very good all round display from our match officials tonight in what was a quite challenging game overall with the important key match decisions all correctly taken. Well done.

Bony in a remarkable come back by MC – again good clear view / angle from the referee achieved in the build up to this goal.

80

AM at 2015-12-08 22:23:49

GOAL!

3-2 Sterling on his 21st Birthday what a goal, excellent non offside flag from HS. Did you notice his excellent position – directly in line with the 2nd rear most defender. How we look and admire this practice tonight. This is more of what we need to see in the Premier League!

GOAL!

2-2 Sterling to make an interesting last 10 minutes

76

AM at 2015-12-08 22:20:03

Close view achieved by both AR and AAR on that last MC attack AS THE BALL STRIKES THE BM PLAYERS ARM FROM VERY CLOSE RANGE IN THE BM PENALTY AREA. No penalty kick is correct. Key Match Decision. Correct

73

AM at 2015-12-08 22:16:06

Again another careless challenge from a MC player sees the referee give a good blast of the whistle, move into the scene and show a calmness and clarity in his decision making process

72 - Borussia M - sub

AM at 2015-12-08 22:14:11

19 off and 9 on

71

AM at 2015-12-08 22:13:32

More of a blast of the whistle for that free kick – a good stepped approach seen here. The Referee then gets the wall back by whistle and arm / hand movement in an assertive manner. Players respond very well.

69

AM at 2015-12-08 22:11:57

Good movement and ck signal from HS on the far touchline, he moves along the touchline with very good movement, looking to always keep in line with the 2nd rearmost defender.

67

AM at 2015-12-08 22:08:51

Another great save from BM gk –  to deny Sterling

62

AM at 2015-12-08 22:06:11

Again good sprinting, acceleration when needed and the referee is also achieving a flexible diagonal and backwards movement

60

AM at 2015-12-08 22:02:45

As MC move across the BM penalty area good view and angle taken up by the referee as he views any possible challenge as a key match decision the BM penalty area

58

AM at 2015-12-08 22:00:32

MC in that latest attack see a good save from the BM gk as MC prepare 2 subs

54

AM at 2015-12-08 21:56:38

No penalty kick to MC is correct and confirmed by replays as our referee signals a gk to BM –  KEY DECISION CORRECT JUDGEMENT

53

AM at 2015-12-08 21:54:50

From that last MC ck play is quickly moved to the other end of play and then back in a MC attack the referee remains close to play and communicates this well.

51

AM at 2015-12-08 21:52:58

MC are pressing hard to get back in this game and I am sure we will see a rise in the tempo. This will be an area for our referee and team to remain alert to.

Again good movement from our referee down the left channel in that last BM attack

2nd half underway

AM at 2015-12-08 21:46:05

BM to kick off

Half Time Summary

AM at 2015-12-08 21:43:04

Our Referee tonight Danny Makkelie who is fairly inexperienced at this level has so far performed very well and it is clear to see why he has been promoted and appointed to this key Champions League Group D game.

He has to date achieved very good match control, he has not been challenged in his decisions by players and this has been due to his awesome fitness levels, accuracy of decision making, coupled with his movement and credible positioning.

Both Assistants have supported our referee very well. There was a key non offside flag for Raffael`s goal when he was level with the last MC defender when the ball was played to him. I have commented about how their flag signals have shown little agitation for free kicks awarded so far and this gives to all the impression of just a free kick and no more. Too much agitation with the flags leads players/fans/management to think that more is due than just a free kick. So this is really good practice let your flag do the talking dependant on the severity of the challenge.

Half Time

AM at 2015-12-08 21:32:35

Half Time

1-2

44

AM at 2015-12-08 21:32:14

Good advantage to MC clear signal from our referee who on 45 minutes blows for full time. No need for the seemingly mandatory 1 minute of additional time.

44

AM at 2015-12-08 21:30:36

FK to BM – again a good and supportive flag from HS who signals with little agitation of the flag – this is good communication to our referee.

42

AM at 2015-12-08 21:28:51

GOAL!

1-2 – Raffael of BM – and again we see an excellent judgement of not offside against Raffael.

Fitness Levels of our referee

AM at 2015-12-08 21:27:33

Outstanding fitness levels seen so far from Danny Makkelie.

Referee Assessments

AM at 2015-12-08 21:24:38

In Keith Hackett`s latest informative article he urges referees to look at their assessments and learn from them. Have a look at this article it is well worth a read.

34

AM at 2015-12-08 21:21:35

The commentators have just given praise to our 32 year old referee tonight. They have praised his fitness levels and for being on the spot to make decisions. It just shows you can get noticed in a positive way as a referee for being effective!

31

AM at 2015-12-08 21:19:03

In that last MC shot over the bar did you notice the poise and body language from our AAR1 on the goal line. It did look effective in case a goal line judgement was required.

30

AM at 2015-12-08 21:17:16

fk to BM again look how close the referee was to judge this incident, there are no complaints from players and this is due to the close proximity to play achieved by our referee

27

AM at 2015-12-08 21:15:00

fk to BM again slight delay of the whistle as the referee looks to try and see if there is any opportunity to keep play moving. Good judgement again from DM

25

AM at 2015-12-08 21:12:53

Free kick to MD – did you notice the calm body language of the referee as he moved into the scene in a confident and composed manner. Spray out for the management of this free kick.

22

AM at 2015-12-08 21:11:28

So far the referee is showing good movement, body language and is picking up well non / fouls. As he looks to keep the game flowing at every opportunity.

6 of MD commits a careless challenge on Sterling – the referee moves in swiftly and for me a word with this player is correct no need to bring out a card as yet.
