Full Time

My admiration for Michael Oliver continues, his performance was very good, illustrated by the consistency of his cautions to the Away Team, largely correct in my opinion. No doubt he will review his yellow card of Monreal with his coach.

Summary to follow, 3 more points for Manchester City …..
90AH at 2017-11-05 17:04:09

Yellow Card4 minutes additional time as Ozil is correctly cautioned for his petulance.

78AH at 2017-11-05 16:54:39

Yellow CardYellow CardXhaka, and then Sanchez, both correctly cautioned as Arsenal’s afternoon goes from bad to worse – once again great consistency from Michael Oliver

74AH at 2017-11-05 16:52:07

GOAL!This is a very tight offside decision to call for Stuart Burt. Regrettably he gives the offside when TV replays clearly indicate that the Manchester City player is offside.

72AH at 2017-11-05 16:47:04

Yellow CardMichael Oliver remains focused and composed, applying the advantage clause twice in succession to allow the game to flow.  He then returns to the incident to caution Otamendi – top class refereeing!

70AH at 2017-11-05 16:43:47

#MCIARS 20 minutes to go and we have game on here at the Etihad – here’s hoping the refereeing team can maintain their very high standards

66AH at 2017-11-05 16:42:02

Yellow CardKoscielny correctly sees yellow – great consistency from Michael Oliver in respect of his cautions.

63AH at 2017-11-05 16:38:59

GOAL! Ramsey feeds Lacazette and the Frenchman’s finish is clinical – game well and truly on now !!!

61AH at 2017-11-05 16:37:15

Did you notice Agerou carrying off part of the referees comms kit and passing it to the 4th official Andre Marriner – some technical issue I guess with the equipment

59AH at 2017-11-05 16:33:47

Yellow Card#MCIARS Lacozette correctly cautioned, Michael Oliver being calmness personified, taking his time and issuing the yellow card with a minimum fuss and maximum professionalism.

55AH at 2017-11-05 16:30:31

Ramsey barges Ederson into the goal and the referee correctly penalises the Arsenal man – no debate at all about that one, although wind the clock back 60 years and the goal might have been given ….

48AH at 2017-11-05 16:27:47

Yellow CardMonreal cautioned for his challenge which led to the penalty. Unfortunately, Sterling is pushed to the ground and therefore, before the referee considers whether or not any further disciplinary action is required, he needs to consider does this constitute a DOGSO. In my opinion, it does and a red card should have been shown to Monreal.

  48AH at 2017-11-05 16:24:30

GOAL!Firstly, what a great decision by the Assistant to allow Sterling to proceed, he was not offside, and Monreal offence in the penalty area is correctly penalised.  Agerou converts, 2-0 to City

48AH at 2017-11-05 16:20:35

Surely Arsenal must come out and chase a goal, something for the refereeing team to be aware of …..

46AH at 2017-11-05 16:18:50

#MCIARS The old-adage of “that’s the easy half out of way” is true, time for the refereeing team to refocus, a great opportunity here for the 3rd team on the pitch to continue to impress.

#MCIARS Delph offends an the referee is ideally placed to detect the misdemeanour – a perfect example of text-book positioning by the match referee.

5 minutes to half-time and the game of chess continues …..

34AH at 2017-11-05 15:52:19

#MCIARS With both sides pressing the defensive ball carrier, then this is making for a very open (and entertaining) game, meaning that not only is the referees fitness a key factor, his positional sense is also key here.  So far, both tests are being passed with flying colours…

30AH at 2017-11-05 15:46:42

Just 15 minuted remaining at the end of the first half and the match officials will be delighted so far – only the debatable penalty appeal to concern them so far, and that was not clear cut ….

Our RefShow tomorrow features the experience of Keith Hackett and Roger Dilkes to discuss the weekend’s talking points – it’s always a good watch ……

23AH at 2017-11-05 15:40:59

Thanks to@clc_12 for your tweet, he correctly concludes that Sterling was pushed, but was it possible to detect at full speed?  I will also pose the question, should the Assistant Referee have intervened?

21AH at 2017-11-05 15:37:29

#MCIARS The speed at which the Home Team develop their attacks means that the referee needs to be ultra-fit, there is no better than Michael Oliver on the Premier League ….

18AH at 2017-11-05 15:35:17

GOAL! It’s been coming – reward for their earlier dominance as De Bruyne opens the scoring

15AH at 2017-11-05 15:33:02

The game has it’s first talking point, was Sterling pushed, significantly perhaps, no major complaints from the City front-man.  Let us know your thoughts by tweeting us here at @youaretheref

12 at 2017-11-05 15:30:37

City continue to dominate – the patterns of play have already developed, which will be music to the ears of the match officials as it allows the game to be read more comfortably

at 2017-11-05 15:28:15

This has been a keen start to the game – no concerns so far for the match officals

Pre-MatchAH at 2017-11-05 15:03:03

Many pundits are speculating that the title is already on the way to the blue side of Manchester, this is of course nonsense talk in November, however was in not in doubt is City’s impressive start to the season, they are flying high, and I am looking forward to the game.
