Full Time Summary
This was one of the tamest Liverpool V Man Utd games I have witnessed in many years. That said, the referee will be very pleased at the outcome of the game, he had no controversial incidents and was not called upon to judge any poor challenges or deal with any ill discipline. The referee can only officiate what is in front of him and tonight he did a good job and thankfully nobody will be talking about the referee from Greater Manchester! He was assisted by Stephen Child who did a solid job and Simon Bennett performed to a high standard on the technical area side, making a number of correct tight offside calls. All in all a pleasing night for the officials.

Anthony and his colleagues need to remain focused until the final whistle. Although the intensity is quite low at the moment anything could happen!
MH at 2016-10-17 21:35:19
Man U Sub 19 off, 10 on
MH at 2016-10-17 21:34:24
Simon Bennett is having an outstanding game, another excellent offside judgement there
MH at 2016-10-17 21:30:55
Following a clash of heads, Anthony was alert and got the trainers on very quickly, this is important for head injuries
MH at 2016-10-17 21:28:39
Blind's challenge was very similar to that of Bailey's in the first half which led to a caution. Perhaps the officials spoke about this at half-time and Anthony realises the caution in the context of the game was a cheap one.
MH at 2016-10-17 21:24:40
The referee has to be careful not to be too detached from play, he was out of position in the build up to the last corner
MH at 2016-10-17 21:22:06
Remember to tune in to the Ref Show to see what Biggs, Hirst and Halsey thought of the weekend's controversies and there were a few!!!
MH at 2016-10-17 21:18:17
Liverpool Sub 15 off 20 on
MH at 2016-10-17 21:17:41
Another excellent decision by Simon Bennett allowing play to continue for Liverpool to have a shot on goal
MH at 2016-10-17 21:16:07
The referee cautioned Young for dissent, what was the difference with Herrera?
MH at 2016-10-17 21:15:20
The referee has got that decision wrong Herrera did not foul the Liverpool player who ran in to him, lets hope nothing comes of the free-kick
MH at 2016-10-17 21:14:23
Anthony Taylor shows a good knowledge of Law by ordering a retaken goal kick as the ball had not left the penalty area
MH at 2016-10-17 21:12:24
The referee managed the incident with Fellaini very well as the free-kick was taken from the wrong place!!!!!
MH at 2016-10-17 21:11:20
Advantage to Manchester United on the edge of the Liverpool Penalty area. Referee was confident in his decision but would a free-kick with a shot on goal have been a better option?
MH at 2016-10-17 21:09:39
Good free-kick to Manchester United, intensity has dropped but Anthony must still maintain concentration and focus
MH at 2016-10-17 21:07:18
Good offside decision by Stephen Child
MH at 2016-10-17 21:03:24
Interesting to see that Milner is in Anthony Taylor's ear before the start of the second half
MH at 2016-10-17 20:54:29
The referee had a very positive first 40 minutes, he let the game breathe and picked up the small free-kicks without over-reacting and he did well to keep his cards in his pocket. Anthony's fitness, positioning and movement is a strength of his performance, he just has to be careful not to invade the players' space and get in the way. The two Assistants have had a commendable game so far, judging their level of involvement well and correctly indicating offside offences when they occur. In the last 5 minutes of the half, I felt that Anthony raised his profile unnecessarily by initially issuing a caution to Bailley for what was a careless challenge and then moments later, adopting a different approach with Milner on Herrera for what was a very similar challenge. This led to Young questioning his decision and being cautioned himself for dissent.
The players are sure to come out fired up for the second half and Anthony will need to judge his level of involvement so that he manages the tempo of the game and picks out when and when not to card and not overreact.

MH at 2016-10-17 20:49:07
The referee has had two cautions in quick succession and the challenge from Milner was very similar to Bailly's and the referee was inconsistent in his approach to both fouls
MH at 2016-10-17 20:46:58
Young cautioned for dissent
MH at 2016-10-17 20:46:04
1 minute added time
MH at 2016-10-17 20:45:44
43 - the referee has cautioned Bailly but in the context of the game I am surprised. Even though the player has fouled, it was a genuine attempt to win the ball and a careless challenge.
MH at 2016-10-17 20:36:49
Whilst Anthony is covering every blade of grass he must not invade the player's space and get in their way or be hit by the ball.
MH at 2016-10-17 20:32:11
Although there has been a number of foul challenges, the referee has shown good judgement in not reaching for a card. However, he must be aware that the tempo of the game has increased. Herrera has now committed two fouls in quick succession and it wouldn't surprise me if he is cautioned on his next foul challenge
MH at 2016-10-17 20:27:42
Careless challenge by Herrera he did not prevent a promising attack so correct to award just a free-kick.
MH at 2016-10-17 20:26:11
The referee makes a very good decision to award a throw-in to Man Utd - right on the spot
MH at 2016-10-17 20:24:52
Again Anthony Taylor correct in awarding a free-kick to Liverpool for a careless challenge by Ibrahimovi?. Good to see the referee talking to the player - this is what player's like.
MH at 2016-10-17 20:20:40
It is good to see the referee allowing the game to breathe and not being fussy. Perhaps learning a few lessons from the European Championships and Collina's leadership and direction
MH at 2016-10-17 20:18:08
As predicted the tempo is fast and furious and the officials are so far reading the game and anticipating play well
MH at 2016-10-17 20:15:48
The referee is displaying good fitness levels and is moving around the field well, he is not sticking to central positions but is gaining good viewing angles by moving wide but making sure that he is not too detached from play.
MH at 2016-10-17 20:11:35
Correct Offside by Simon Bennett
MH at 2016-10-17 20:10:57
It is very important that the officials stay focused and do not switch off - good free kick for a careless challenge on Ibrahimovic
MH at 2016-10-17 20:06:22
Careless challenge on Pogba, again Anthony Taylor is correct in giving the free-kick - good tempo management it is vital he picks up the small free kicks and he is doing that well
MH at 2016-10-17 20:05:07
That was a soft free kick but perhaps the referee is trying to slow the game down now after the Rashford Milner incident
MH at 2016-10-17 20:03:29
Anthony managed the Rashford challenge well
MH at 2016-10-17 20:02:50
Anthony has played an advantage after less than a minute , moments later Rashford fouled Milner. Perhaps stopping the game and awarding the free-kick earlier would have been a better option as there was not a real advantage just possession
MH at 2016-10-17 20:00:26
Hopefully Anthony will set his stall out early on and allow the game to flow and not show any unnecessary cards early
MH at 2016-10-17 19:53:12
Anthony will have prepared both physically and mentally for this game and he will need to be ready from the start as the tempo is likely to be high and fast from the start.
MH at 2016-10-17 19:44:13
Martin Atkinson is a very experienced referee and the technical area will need managing this evening. Mourinho and Klopp are two of the more livelier characters in the premier league.
MH at 2016-10-17 19:39:32
Anthony is aiming to be in the elite level of the FIFA list and tonight will be a good test of his abilities. From earlier ref cam reports, he will need to work on his recognition of offences, as he has been rather inconsistent with his recognition of careless and reckless challenges.
MH at 2016-10-17 19:35:23
Referee - Anthony Taylor
Assistants - Simon Bennett (technical area side) and Stephen Child (far side)
Fourth Official - Martin Atkinson

Good evening and welcome to tonight's live refcam Liverpool V Manchester United. The pre-match talk has been focused on the appointment of the referee Anthony Taylor who lives in the Greater Manchester area and has been put under undue pressure and is in the spotlight tonight. Anthony has refereed 7 premier league fixtures to date this season and this is his first appointment to the Liverpool v Manchester United game, arguably one of the biggest games in the Premier League Season.
