There were three talking points for me from tonights game, two of them i have addressed at length in the first half summary, those being the disallowed goal for pushing and the incorrect reading of the new offside guidance by Assistant Harry Lennard. However the third talking point from this game is that ‘grappling’ is creeping back! Both Lallana and Skrtel were guilty of holding opponents in the penalty area at corners, quite simply the PGMOL need to focus on this and punish it, the awarding of penalty kicks would soon put an end to it . Craig Pawson was right to disallow Ephicks first half strike, but it doesn’t do the image of the game any good if we then see players escaping punishment for being all over opponents at corner kicks. Overall Craig Pawson had a solid game here, he was consistent in his reading of careless challenges and his cautions were well judged, he also played some good advantages, Andy Garratt demonstrated some good technique but got away with a harsh free kick award for handball in the second half. But it is Harry Lennard who will learn the most from this game, its tough at the top and tonight he’ll be feeling disappointed that he got the big call wrong

Full Time Summary to follow

Yellow Card Cook picks up a caution for upending Moreno on the edge of the penalty area

RH at 2015-08-17 21:49:10
Another good advantage played as Tomlin is carelessly challenged

RH at 2015-08-17 21:48:19
4 minutes added time!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:48:01
Just as i said that Benteke hits the post!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:47:08
With the away team showing more urgency its Harry Lennard who is the busier Assistant at the moment!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:44:24
As Bournemouth press for an equaliser i suppose any neutral would say that they deserve a share of the points, particularly when you consider the manner in which the only goal of the game was scored

RH at 2015-08-17 21:41:43
TV pictures showing that Gomez is treading a fine line as he hauled down an opponent after being cautioned

RH at 2015-08-17 21:40:33
Perhaps Coutinho defining role in tonight game was that attempt to play the ball that he got away with in the only goal so far of the game!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:39:08
No late wonder strike for Coutinho tonight as he is subbed!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:37:27
Interesting that three of tonight’s yellow cards have been for offences where players have subtly ending promising attacking moves by tripping of grounding opponents

RH at 2015-08-17 21:35:58
Yellow CardA caution there for Tomlin as he deliberately tripped Lallana to end a promising Liverpool attack

RH at 2015-08-17 21:33:57
Yellow CardGomez collecting a yellow card and Richie following up with one also for ending that last Liverpool attack!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:32:08
Good to see Craig Pawson moving across the penalty to keep play in view as Coutinho looked to finish off that last Liverpool attack

RH at 2015-08-17 21:30:29
There seems to be less of those needless free kicks this half, the game is better for it!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:28:20
Don’t forget there are plenty of matches coming your way on Refcam over the seven days! Next Saturday lunchtime at 12.45 Manchester United look to make it three league wins in a row when they entertain a Newcastle side who are looking for their first win of the season. Everton fresh from their win at Southampton host the very impressive Manchester City in a 4pm kick off on Sunday. On Sunday evening at 10.00 its Gerrard verses Lampard when LA Galaxy are at home to New York City in our weekend MLS game. The weekend programme is rounded a week tonight off with Arsenal verses Liverpool at the Emirates at 8.00 pm

RH at 2015-08-17 21:26:22
Andy Garrett intervening there to signal handball against a defender on the edge of the penalty area, i have to say that was harsh and fortunately nothing came of the free kick

RH at 2015-08-17 21:22:58
We’ve been playing for over an hour and it has to be said that the attitude of the players tonight has made Craig Pawsons job easier!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:21:12
TV pictures showing Skrtel all over Cook at that last Bournemouth corner, Lallana getting away with it earlier also, taking into account the disallowed goal, which all though in my view was correct, does not take away the fact that it looks awful! the PGMOL would do well to get a grip of this!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:17:35
Why do players at this level get caught offside when they’re looking along the line?

RH at 2015-08-17 21:15:47
Good advantage played in that last Liverpool attack as Richie clipped Ibe

RH at 2015-08-17 21:14:26
Andy Garratt has demonstrated superb poise and flagwork  tonight when presenting his signals on that far touchline

RH at 2015-08-17 21:12:07
TV pictures showing that Emre Can took a boot to the shoulder but there was no malice in it!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:11:08
Good reading of play there by Andy Garratt, he didn’t dive in with a hasty flag choosing to let play develop and end naturally with a goal kick to Bournemouth

RH at 2015-08-17 21:08:50
Watching Martin Atkinson yesterday, he was never far from the action particularly in the final third of the field of play where lets face it most of the big calls are made!

RH at 2015-08-17 21:07:09
Watching Liverpool on the attack there, the Referee moves towards the left side of the penalty area leaving his Assistant to monitor play more closely as it developed down the right, this does leave a lot responsibility on the Assistant, Anthony Taylor did that last season and got into trouble on a couple of occasions with big decisions. I would prefer Craig Pawson to move in closer anywhere in and around the penalty seeking better viewing angles

RH at 2015-08-17 21:03:00
The second half has begun!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:58:34
Well lets cut to the chase here, there are two talking points from the first half. The first incident being the disallowed ‘goal’ as Bournemouth skipper Elphick climbed above Lovren laying his arms on the back of the Liverpool defender in the process. Yes i accept that some Premier League Referees have let contact to go unpunished of late, but i feel that the call was right and that says more about others failings than Craig Pawsons. However on the other talking point, the Liverpool goal i feel that the Match Officials and Harry Lennard in particular got it wrong, The IFAB has identified some situations which must now be penalised because of the offside player’s impact on an opponent. Coutinho was clearly attempting to play the ball as Benteke strode in from an onside position. The wording in the guidance saying; ‘clearly attempts to play a ball which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent’ Other than that just the one caution, the Referee looking sharper as the half went with positioning, Andy Garratt has looked solid on the other line. But the those two incidents dominate our reflections on the first half

RH at 2015-08-17 20:46:59
Half Time

RH at 2015-08-17 20:46:05
1 minute added time

RH at 2015-08-17 20:45:15
The Referee has definitely sharpened his reaction time to break away attacks as the half has gone on, he’s putting in some decent 10/20 metre sprints to keep his optimum viewing angle

RH at 2015-08-17 20:41:50
Bournemouth players are getting sucked in with some silly free kicks, that offence by Daniels on Coutinho being a good example

RH at 2015-08-17 20:40:24
TV pictures clearly showing that Lallana got a handful of Elphicks shirt, he’ll have to watch that!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:39:08
Gradel and Henderson coming together with the Liverpool skipper going to ground, would have been a very harsh penalty, i think the Referees got that one right!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:37:13
Craig Pawson doing well again in that Liverpool attacking build up to constantly adjust his position to keep an optimum viewing distance

RH at 2015-08-17 20:35:21
Yellow CardO’Kane cautioned there for bring a halt to that attacking run by Coutinho

RH at 2015-08-17 20:34:34

RH at 2015-08-17 20:34:03
The tweets coming in clearly support the view that the Benteke strike should have been ruled offside!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:32:29
So Bournemouth have every right to feel hard done by there, that goal should not have stood, offside!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:31:18
This is the new guidance on offside In addition to the situations already outlined in the Laws of the Game, a player in an offside position shall also be penalised if he:– clearly attempts to play a ball which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent or – makes an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

RH at 2015-08-17 20:29:58
With the new interpretation on offside should that goal have stood as Coutinho clearly made an attempt to play the ball from an offside position before Benteke moved in?

RH at 2015-08-17 20:27:44
GOAL!Benteke scores his first goal for Liverpool in front of the kop

RH at 2015-08-17 20:26:16
Good to see the Referee constantly adjusting his position in midfield as play moves back and forth across the field of play

RH at 2015-08-17 20:23:41
The Referee is achieving good penalty area viewing in open play, even though he is not penetrating the penalty area, if he’s judging set piece plays he may have to move in closer

RH at 2015-08-17 20:21:38
The TV stats showing 52% possession Liverpool and 48% Bournemouth, as i said end to end!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:19:44
The Referee’s patrol path is very much ‘box to box’ at the moment, reflecting the end to end nature of play!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:18:10
A well timed run by Benteke supporting Harry Lennards call not to flag offside there

RH at 2015-08-17 20:16:26
The twitter feed makes a good point that other Premier League Referees have allowed contact to go unpunished, but it does not mean that Craig Pawson wasn’t right to disallow that goal

RH at 2015-08-17 20:13:21
Its also worth noting that in the build up to the corner before that disallowed goal, the Referee allowed a big gap to appear before he closed in on play, its pleasing to see that he has corrected that by reacting quicker to break aways, particularly as this game has an end to end feel about it!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:11:16
The twitter feed already at odds with Craig Pawsons decision to disallow that Elphick strke!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:09:23
In Craig Pawson’s defense he was well placed and if he chose to let that go he made have created problems for himself What are your thoughts? Contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com

RH at 2015-08-17 20:07:37
Elphicks strike is disallowed, Craig Pawson with a good view of the Bournemouth players two arms on the back of Lovren! Fair call or not?

RH at 2015-08-17 20:04:25
A robust challenge by Lallana earns the visitors a free kick by the touchline

RH at 2015-08-17 20:03:24
Good advantage played there as Gradel was tripped in the build up to hat corner

RH at 2015-08-17 20:01:34
Perfect conditions this evening!

RH at 2015-08-17 20:00:51

RH at 2015-08-17 19:56:49
