Leicester City v Chelsea

RH at 2015-12-14 23:06:15

A high profile game handled well by Mark Clattenburg and his team, the post match talk here will centre around the contrasting fortunes of the two teams. As always from Mark Clattenburg his  Refereeing performance was built on a great technical display where his positional sense and dynamic mobility were much in evidence. Of particular note is the work that he puts in to keep a 180 degree view of play. He measured his cautions well with just Vardy and Huth seeing early second half yellows and few would argue with the need to have added any more names to that. A great example of how to control a high profile game where the result was in doubt right up to the end, without the need to brandish cards all over the place. There were no contentious incidents, the Morgan/Costa contest never got nasty and the Penalty shout for Costa’s penalty area handball was rightly waved away. Another impressive and polished performance from one of our top performers. Assistants Simon Beck and Jake Collin put in solid performances neither let the Referee down. I’m not sure why Simon Beck was using chewing gum during this game, maybe its a means of helping with concentration. But the end product for the Match Officials was most favourable!

Summary to follow!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:52:14

Simon Beck picks up Matic’s careless challenge on Ulloa

RH at 2015-12-14 22:51:29

We’ve got three cracking games coming your way on Refcam before the Christmas period! On Saturday it’s a massive game as far as the bottom of the Premier goes when Newcastle face Aston Villa at 5.30. Next Sunday at 1.30 a fascinating contest is in prospect when Jugen Klopp’s Liverpool travel to Watford, which way will that one go? Then next Monday night its table topping action when Arsenal host high flying Manchester City!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:51:05

There’s no possession football here as both teams are still pressing forward!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:48:37

A minimum of  5 minutes added time!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:47:46

At last as Vardy is substituted, Leicester play deeper, which should place less demands on the Referee’s mobility, not that Mark Clattenburgs fitness and movement have ever been in doubt tonight!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:44:49

Make no mistake its on games like this as both teams surge forward when a Premier League Referee’s fitness is tested!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:43:09

With two strikers still on the field for Leicester there is till plenty of counter attacking going on, so the Referee will still need to apply his fitness!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:41:19

Morgan gets the better of Costa, and brings a genuine smile from the Spaniard in the direction of the Referee

RH at 2015-12-14 22:39:15

Kante brings down Remy with a silly trip, why?

RH at 2015-12-14 22:36:57

Mark Clattenburg and his team will need to work here to keep a tight control as Chelsea will surely cast care aside to get on level terms!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:35:47

GOAL!Remy pulls one back for Chelsea, game on!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:33:38

Well no body’s perfect, the Referee getting in the way of play in that last Leicester attack as he got himself ahead of the game!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:31:00

On the basis that Costa didn’t handle the bal,l I thought that Kante was unlucky to be penalised for that midfield handball as he turned his back on play!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:27:19

Mark Clattenburg deciding against a penaltyfor handball to Leicester as Costa was attempting to get his arm out of the way, i’ll go with that!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:25:34

This is a key phase of the game, Chelsea are taking risks and creating some good chances, if they take one of them it could be game on a the tempo could soar!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:23:58

Vardy late on Ramires in midfield, again he needs to take care already being on a caution!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:21:44

Good advantage played by Mark Clattenburg as Leicester broke from their defensive half, great Refereeing!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:20:28

‘Bik M’ path picking up on the twitter feed, on some of the non standard signals from the Assistants, I suppose they would say that its an attempt to communicate to a wider audience, but you’re there are limits to how far you can go with this

RH at 2015-12-14 22:16:40

Huth brings down Pedro, he’ll need to be careful as he’s already on a caution

RH at 2015-12-14 22:15:29

I sensed that the Vardy cautioned may have raised the tempo in this game, but the second goal has deflated Chelsea and the match tempo has stayed in check

RH at 2015-12-14 22:11:49

Leicester are fearless in the tackle, they are very effective but if any of the tackles were mistimed they would result in Reckless challenges!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:09:34

Yellow CardHuth commits a foul for the tactical purpose of interfering with or breaking up a promising attack

RH at 2015-12-14 22:06:59

GOAL!Pure class from Mahrez 2-0 Leicester!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:05:26

Yellow CardWell we did say the first Reckless challenge wouldn’t be far away and Vardy obliges with a late on Costa!

RH at 2015-12-14 22:03:28

The second half is on!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:54:47

A first half that both Leicester and Mark Clattenburg’s team will be pleased with. No yellow card shown so far and other than Oscars borderline challenge on Albrighton I never felt there could be. I suspect that things won’t stay that way in the second half as surely Chelsea will apply themselves harder. I feel that the games first reckless challenge could well be forthcoming. A superb technical first half from the Referee his constant adjustment to maintain that 180 degree open body viewing  and those explosive sprints to maintain an optimum viewing range are a lesson to any aspiring Referee. Both Assistants look sharp and they are judging their involvement level well so far, a good first half!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:47:05

Why did Matic choose to question Assistant Jake Collin as Leicester mounted that last attack?

RH at 2015-12-14 21:45:45

A minimum of 3 minutes added time

RH at 2015-12-14 21:45:12

With Leicester almost counter attacking at times the Referee is putting in 20/30 metre explosive sprints to maintain his optimum viewing range and close proximity to play

RH at 2015-12-14 21:43:20

Noticeable how the Referee is coming outside of play when Chelsea attack down their left side!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:41:42

RH at 2015-12-14 21:41:17

Costa again caught offside as he came back into the game in pursuit of the ball, a perfectly correct call for Simon Beck!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:37:36

Zouma conceding a free kick due to the shear pace of Vardy!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:36:53

Interesting to note Mark Clattenburgs position at that Chelsea corner, a little bit closer to the goal area than we see sometimes

RH at 2015-12-14 21:34:11

GOAL!Vardy makes it 1-0 Leicester! who else!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:33:39

Oscar with a borderline late challenge on Albrighton, will a similar challenge of that nature result in a caution later in the game?

RH at 2015-12-14 21:31:46

Good to note that the twitter feed is picking up the Referees proactive actions in this game!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:30:14

From what looked no more than that careless challenge from Vardy its looking like Hazard will be replaced!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:29:00

Vardy clearly shoving Hazard without any attempt to play the ball, the Referee holds a mini summit with Captains Morgan and Terry to get his message across!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:26:30

Morgan and Costa go shoulder to shoulder no problem though!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:25:38

With half of the first period gone, its very noticeable how hard Mark Clattenburg works to keep his body open to play with a 180 degree viewing angle of play, he’s constantly backing turning in and adjusting his position, no looking over his shoulder of craning his neck here, textbook!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:21:29

A tight call as Simon Beck calls Costa offside there!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:19:20

The Referee looking comfortable as he put on a 20 metre explosive sprint in that last Leicester attack!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:18:14

Noticeable how tightly Mark Clattenburg squeezed play with Simon Beck in that last Chelsea attack!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:15:39

Kante brings down Hazard with a careless challenge in a dangerous position for Leicester

RH at 2015-12-14 21:12:33

A clash of the two 26’s as Terry fells Mahrez, no more than careless though!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:10:54

Costa is clearly the focus of Leicester energy at the moment!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:09:59

This is a vital stage in a game such as this for any Referee as he seeks out those potential player clashes that may challenge his control!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:08:44

He’ll need to be on his game though as a couple of Leicester players have already clattered into Costa

RH at 2015-12-14 21:07:46

Good to note there that after Oscar was challenged wide left the Referee kept the competing players in view and let then know he watching, great Refereeing building credibility with the players!

RH at 2015-12-14 21:05:06

first free kick as Ramires trips Albrighton

RH at 2015-12-14 21:03:28

Perfect conditions this evening. Assistant Simon Beck operating  in front of the Technical Area (far side from the camera) with Assistant Jake Collin operating near side

RH at 2015-12-14 21:00:13

Our match Referee Mark Clattenburg gets us underway!

RH at 2015-12-14 20:56:25

Today’s Match Referee is Mark Clattenburg. His Assistant Referees are Simon Beck and Jake Collin, The Fourth Official is Graham Scott

RH at 2015-12-14 20:52:04

What a cracking Monday nights football we have in prospect, will be it be a case of the current champions visiting the home of the team who will take their crown? Its Leicester City verses Chelsea!
