FINAL SCORE: 1 – 2

Summary: As expected the intensity rose immediately after the Manchester City early equalising goal and in general the Referee dealt with the situations reasonably proficiently. He recognised the need to raise his profile when some of the challenges were over physical and reckless but there were inconsistencies when correctly Fernandinho was cautioned for simulation yet a similar situation by a Huddersfield player in the first half was ignored. Also, the foul by De Bruyne in the second half was identical to the one which saw Malone rightly cautioned and yet no disciplinary action action against the Manchester City player.. However, the Referee showed a good fitness when dealing with the counter attacks which were mounted by the home team and got the “big decision” correct in making a judgement on the two penalty kick decisions immediately after the second half restart. He maintained concentration after the final whistle to have a clear view of the minor altercation between Van La Parra and Sane but in my opinion he over-reacted in producing cards to both players. Good co-operation between all Officials was noted and overall a reasonable standard of control was witnessed.
Thanks for being with me this afternoon
Don’t forget the next RefCam match is on Tuesday evening when Watford play Manchester United.

The intensity of the game has certainly raised and Craig Pawson needs to be firm to ensure control is retained.

A physical challenge by Walker on Van La Parra is not punished. 4th Official has dialogue with the Referee who then has a strong word with the Huddersfield manager who was clearly upset that the foul on Van La Parra was not punished. Sensible action. Van La Parra close to Fernandinho who falls dramatically. Fernandinho for simulation. Spot on decision. The game temperature rising as for Malone is given correctly. Silly foul by De Broyne not punished with a caution. Huddersfield manager not happy and Referee has another word with him.

A good first half for the Referee as most offences were minor and easily recognisable. The Referee was able to adopt quite a “low profile” as the game was being played in a good spirit with the visitors having most of the possession but with the home team gradually being able to achieve some counter-attacks which tested the Referee’s ability to inject an increase in pace to always be within a reasonable distance of play. His “quiet word” approach in dealing with the foul by Sane was appropriate but with the visitors now being 1-0 behind, the Referee must be ready for a situation where a more stronger approach could well be needed in the second half.

s.m. at 2017-11-26 17:11:19
