Wow ! A great game, played by two attractive teams, officiated by a tremendous referee, whose movements, management and decision making were faultless. IS HE A MAN OR A MACHINE? I am biased but the best teams of officials at this World Cup have been Geiger and Webb! Hope you also enjoyed the game and the performance of Team Geiger. Goodnight.

An unfortunate own goal by Yobo seals the game for France, however Nigeria should feel pleased with their performance, they have been positive and have contributed to a great game.

5 minutes added time, I could watch this all night. Another gooooooooooal to France it’s all over now!

This game really has been end to end throughout and Geiger has worked extremely hard, his work rate has been astronomical.

Goal from Pogba, a simple but effective header. The two teams are still adopting a positive approach. I cannot see the French closing shop and defending, they realize that attacking Nigeria is the best form of defense.

The French now piling on the pressure and the ball hitting the underside of the bar and out from a Cabaye shot. They are really going for it at the moment and gooooooooooooooooal to France. It was coming.

Ball cleared off the line by Moses from a Benzema attempt. Goal line technology in operation but not one that was close enough to trouble Joe Fletcher.

Nigeria pressurizing the French defense, great long ranch shot by Peter Odemwingie who has been lively all game. Nigeria have really approached this game in a positive way.

Onazi the victim of the yellow card challenge has to leave the game and is replaced. He had previously left the game for treatment so the latest challenge has possibly aggravated the previous injury.

First yellow card of the game to Matuidi of France for a foul tackle which was certainly reckless. Definitely the worst challenge of the game so far.

Another correct offside call, this time by Sean.

PR at 2014-06-30 18:07:16
Players from both teams go to ground in front of Joe, he decides not to call a foul, which I believe is correct as it appeared to be a tangle of legs, not a deliberate foul, which is consistent and exactly on the same wavelength in which Marks is refereeing the game.

The AR’s have enhanced Mark’s performance by making extremely accurate decisions. The television pundits have just suggested that Joe could have applied “benefit of the doubt” when he disallowed Nigeria’s goal. However top AR’s are so good these days that they work to tight margins and it is simply offside or onside and this was offside, no matter how slight the margin.

I am very satisfied with “Team Geiger’s” performance in the first half. Mark’s movements are once again outstanding. His player management is extremely impressive, he has controlled and bossed this game without the requirement for sanctions. The players are respecting him as the know the game is in safe hands.

Good handball spot by Mark by Moses, important as he had a decent goal scoring opportunity.

French defender’s arms around Odemwingie in penalty area. PK? Yes technically but very soft. If Mark awards a penalty it needs to be without question with no surprises.

Another accurate offside judgement by Sean Hurd, as the ball went directly out of play, in the MLS I would advise him not to flag. However FIFA have instructed them to signal in these type of situations, so he is correct to do so. When he is working for FIFA he has to abide by their instructions, however when he returns to us he follows our instructions!

Good management from Geiger, having a word with Giroud of France following a raised elbow to Mikel. Appropriate.

PR at 2014-06-30 17:23:27
This game is being played at fantastic pace, as long as the teams can keep this going, Mark will be with them all the way!

PR at 2014-06-30 17:20:27
Another offside, this time by Sean Hurd, again correct.

PR at 2014-06-30 17:19:31
Disallowed Nigeria goal from Joe Fletcher’s offside flag, precise and accurate – Well done Joe!

PR at 2014-06-30 17:16:26
Notice the way that Mark is sacrificing distance for superior viewing angle when play moves into the penalty area.

PR at 2014-06-30 17:13:27
Geiger’s movements, as usual are impressive by taking evasive action to allow the player’s space to play in midfield areas and quick bursts of speed when necessary.

PR at 2014-06-30 17:11:01
Geiger showing concern and empathy with players from both teams following an ariel collision.

PR at 2014-06-30 17:02:43
Geiger’s first decision – a simple foul. Good no risks at this early stage.

PR at 2014-06-30 16:59:00
Geiger’s team is joined by Ilireza Faghani as 4th Official and Hassan Kamransfar, both from Iran. The Estadio Nacional Stadium in Brasilia is packed with enthusiastic fans as the teams line up for their respective national anthems. Geiger and his crew and used to pre-match national anthems (USA and Canada when appropriate) as it part of the standard procedure prior to MLS games.

Welcome to this evenings game. I am really looking forward to this game as the match officials are from the USA and I am their Training and Development Manager. Referee Mark Geiger from New Jersey, one of our full time professional referees is joined by Sean Hurd from Florida and Joe Fletcher from Toronto, Canada. These guys are in terrific form having officiated two previous games in this World Cup, namely Columbia v Greece and Chile v Spain. As it is their first appearance at the World Cup, we didn’t expect them to receive an appointment in the knockout stage but their performances have deserved it. They are a really tight knitted team, they have a rapport with each other that is totally supportive and have embraced the teamwork ethic in a very effective manner. So I am looking forward to another consistent performance from “Team Geiger”!
