To me, that was the most complete performance by an MLS referee we have seen this season. Well positioned to judge a penalty award, accurate penal offence and restart decisions, and great use of cautions to retain control either side of half-time.  Finally, a totally justified Red Card to seal the deal.

90+2

RCT at 2015-10-05 00:00:03

GOAL! Game, set and match as Texeira buries one from inside the penalty area to seal a 4-1 victory

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:58:10

Red CardTo me, that seals a commendable performance, Rodrigous ‘s challenge on Barios endangered the safety on his opponent and the referee’s decision to dismiss from the field of play was 100% correct

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:54:50

This is THE time to focus – don’t lose what you have gained in terms of match control

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:52:00

Dallas look like they are going to take all points comfortably ….

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:44:39

The commentator referenced a possible advantage being allowed, however I agree with the referee who awarded the ceremonial as this consumes more time for the team who are winning

75

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:42:12

15 minutes to go and the referee is reaping the rewards of 3 cautions before and after half-time in terms of his match control

Mid way through the second half and the referee and his team remain in total control.  This is the time to keep focused, retain their standards and see the game to a safe conclusion

58

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:27:23

Marvelous player management – a calm explanation of his decisions which the players appear to accept in a professional manner.

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:22:09

Yellow CardGood strong refereeing again, this time Harris’s reckless challenge is worthy of  the caution, withj Chris Penso not shirking his responsibilities and retaining control

53

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:20:22

GOAL! A third goal for Dallas – Acosta finds the net to open up and 2 goal cushion

50

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:18:14

GOAL! The second goal of the game which gas come against the run of play as Texeira’s strike restores Dallas’s lead …..

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:16:30

I am lovign the relaxed manner that referee Chris Penso has with the players, he curbed possible dissent by Will Bruin with an explanation and a smile !!!

46

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:12:35

Great start to the second half – Dallas could, and perhaps should, have taken the lead …..

RCT at 2015-10-04 23:10:37

If this game emphasises one key aspect of refereeing, it’s fitness an positioning. Our referee for this game is clearly in great shape and he is able to sell his decisions with confidence and clarity, the key one being the penalty kick awarded in the 24th minute.

Half Time

One word for Chris Penso’s performance so far, faultless !  My match notes have no development points for the referee and his team, they have done everything by the book and with a good degree of accuracy and confidence – more in the 2nd half please gents

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:54:06

Once again the referee is not afraid to move into the penalty area as attacks develop, which is always good to see and 2nd and 3rd phase attacks develop.

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:51:30

Yellow CardMore authority being shown, a cynical handball by Miranda and he gets what he deserves …

40

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:48:29

This is a key 5 minutes for the referee, important that he maintains control, as he has done so far, in the run up to half-time

37

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:47:11

Yellow CardGood strong refereeing by Penso, Houston’s Brad Davis can have no complaints as his challenge was reckless

35

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:46:13

Well where did that come from, Clark levels matters with a strike to make at 1-1GOAL!

35

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:44:41

I would just like to reflect for a moment on the performance of Anthony Taylor at Arsenal v Manchester United this afternoon, this was a display of confidence and maturity and he was not influenced at all by the players.  I believe he is destined for greater things and it would not surprise me to see more international appointments come his way.

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:40:03

….. which came to nothing

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:39:19

At last, a chance for Houston to create a genuine attack ….

26

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:36:24

Dallas opening the scoring with only the second shot of the game, such is their dominance that Houston have had no shots so far, and we are 26 minutes into the game

23

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:33:59

Optimum positioning from the referee again to correctly award the penalty kick to Dallas – and it’s 1-0 GOAL!

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:32:05

Once again we can’t fault Chris Penso’s position to award the free-kick, 10-15 meters from play and therefore able to sell the decision with ease

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:30:09

Still nothing significant for the refereeing team – keep focused team !

9

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:19:42

Good movement by Chris Penso, displaying commendable speed and also not been afraid to penetrate the penalty area as required.

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:17:01

No let up in the pace – it’s still full on, with both teams looking committed !

3

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:13:31

It’s been a fast paced start to the game, 2 penal offences inside the first 3 minutes, the refereeing team have needed to be focused form the first minute

1

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:09:09

here we go, good luck to the Refereeing team ….

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:08:25

The referee for tonight’s encounter is Chris Penso, who has featured on our MLS coverage earlier this season

RCT at 2015-10-04 22:04:58

There’s a familiar face to Uk viewers in the technical area, namely Houston manager Owen Coyle, but he wil lnot be happy with his team’s current position of 9th in the Western Conference

RCT at 2015-10-04 21:57:09

However, FC Dallas have won the last four meetings between the teams, over the last three seasons.

Pre-Match

RCT at 2015-10-04 21:55:08

So back to the game, Dallas have lost their last 2 matches and Houston have won their last 2 matches, so Houston are the form team of the 2
