And that’s it.

It’s the Merseyside giants who go through to The FA Cup quarter finals.

That’s just one defeat in the last 16 games for them as they continue their impressive second half to the season.

As for our referees…

It was a shame that Bobby missed the penalty kick for Liverpool, but he will be pleased that didn’t change the result of the game.

Solid work from Harry Lennard and Mike Mullarkey on the lines.

All round…a decent display except for that big decision.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:25:25

Full Time

GT at 2015-02-14 20:21:57

Yellow Card for Mignolet for delaying the restart of play as he messes about at the goal kick.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:21:23

But the Palace man blazes it high over the bar.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:20:55

Free kick to Palace in a dangerous position.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:20:00

Good to see a referee willing to give a foul throw-in.

Too many of those decisions go unchecked.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:19:30

We’ve had the 90 minutes…5 added minutes to go on.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:15:24

Good call by Bobby for a free kick to Liverpool.

Foul on Balotelli.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:14:16

Mullarkey helps out his referee with a tight call for the ball going out of play for a throw-in.

Good team work.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:11:46

Excellent possession football from Liverpool.

Bobby needs to be aware that Palace will become more and more frustrated as Liverpool hang on to the ball. He should have tuned into that and be working with the players, talking with them, reminding them to keep calm.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:09:34

Just 10 minutes to go and it’s still all to play for at Selhurst Park.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:07:46

And indeed here they come!

Lovren and Lambert replace Sturridge and Coutinho for Liverpool.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:06:50

There are some tired looking players out there now, and I feel sure more changes will come soon.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:04:57

15 minutes to go and it’s still the visitors who look like they are going into the quarter finals.

But will there be a late chance for Palace?

GT at 2015-02-14 20:04:47

Yellow Card for Emre Chan as he pulls back his opponent.

Correct decision, but Madley has not consistently applied that particular Law today.

GT at 2015-02-14 20:00:59

Zaha is introduced as Palace go in search of the equaliser.

Bolasie makes way for him.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:58:10

Another claim for a penalty waved away.

This time it’s Palace who were asking, but Madley got that one right.

No intent in the handball.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:55:02

Madley gives a free kick to Palace after minimal contact on the home team player

GT at 2015-02-14 19:52:44

Guediora replaces Kelly for Palace.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:52:23

The big defender is soon back on, though…

GT at 2015-02-14 19:51:50

Sakho has to leave the field of play following an earlier challenge in which he hurt his ribs.

He leaves as he received treatment on the pitch.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:48:04

Balotelli took the free kick which Speroni could only parry, and Lallana follows up with a goal.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:47:12

GOAL! Lallana

GT at 2015-02-14 19:46:26

Free kick to Liverpool as Madley correctly spots a foul on Balotelli in a very dangerous area

GT at 2015-02-14 19:42:51

How will this finely balanced tie go?

GT at 2015-02-14 19:39:51

Fantastic pass from Jordan Henderson, and the Liverpool hitman smashes a great volley past Speroni.

Good call by Mike Mullarkey in that move for no offside – Sturridge was level as Henderson’s pass came over.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:38:26

GOAL! Sturridge

GT at 2015-02-14 19:37:15

Madley correctly spots a handball against Moreno.

Free kick to Palace.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:36:08

Offside against Sturridge as he is slow getting back from the latest attack.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:34:26

It’s time for the second half as Liverpool get the game going again.

Palace have changed with Puncheon coming on for Chamakh.

Markovic makes way for Balotelli for Liverpool.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:21:27

It was all going very well for our referee for the opening half an hour.

But then came the missed penalty call for Liverpool, followed quickly by a missed and simple caution for Ward.

Madley needs to re-focus at half time as his game deteriorated as that half went on.

He particularly needs to up his foul recognition, which had begun so well at the start of the game.

Palace players are diving under no contact and that is angering the Liverpool players.

If Madley doesn’t get a grip on that, then the players are likely to take the law into their own hands as they lose confidence in him

GT at 2015-02-14 19:18:47

Half Time

GT at 2015-02-14 19:18:38

Sturridge is very angry as Gayle is the latest Palace player to cheat and fall to the ground when there was no contact in the challenge

GT at 2015-02-14 19:17:08

That’s the end of the frst 45 minutes.

1 added minute to go on.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:14:00

End-to-end stuff in this one as both sides look open in defence.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:10:02

Those are mandatory cautions, and Madley cannot be deemed a top referee if he doesn’t consistently apply the Laws of the game.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:09:13

Ward is very, very lucky not be cautioned as he pulled back Coutinho who was on a promising attack.

Poor decision again, Bobby.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:07:54

Yellow Card Chamakh.

Late challenge on Allen.

Correct decision.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:05:11

I’m afraid that cancels out all of the good work so far for Madley.

Referees live or die by the big decisions, and he got that one horribly wrong.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:04:03

How on earth did Bobby miss that one?

A clear foul on Sturridge inside the Palace penalty area.

Definitely a penalty kick, but the referee gives nothing.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:02:17

Another appeal for a penalty against Ward for handball.

But again Madley calls it correctly.

No penalty.

GT at 2015-02-14 19:01:24

Shocking simulation – or cheating – or a dive – however you want to phrase it.

Gale cheated there and got a caution for Jordan Henderson when there was no contact whatsoever Yellow Card

GT at 2015-02-14 19:00:03

Bobby tidies up a very untidy penalty area at a corner kick to Palace by awarding a free kick to Liverpool.

Very difficult for him to see everything that was happening in there.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:57:09

Mike Mullarkey leads Madley into the first incorrect decision of the day as the assistant gives a free kick to Palace, when it was clearly just two players challenging equally for the ball.

Poor lining.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:55:35

Massive call for a handball against Ward in his own penalty area but Madley gets it right again as the Palace man clearly played the ball with his chest.

Excellent refereeing.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:53:05

Speroni pulls off a superb point blank save as Liverpool press for the equaliser

GT at 2015-02-14 18:49:57

The playing surface is particularly bad in the Palace left fullback area.

Bobby will have to be aware of that as players struggle to stay upright on a very wet surface.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:47:43

Despite all of the Liverpool possession, and a superb save from Mignolet in the move, Campbell drills home on 15 minutes.

Game on…

GT at 2015-02-14 18:46:47

GOAL! Campbell

GT at 2015-02-14 18:46:09

Madley is earning the trust of the players with his decision making.

Not one challenge of his authority so far, which is a pleasant change to see.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:43:15

It’s been a good opening 10 minutes for our referee.

Foul recognition has been spot-on so far.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:42:28

Excellent call by the referee as Bolasie knocks over his marker inside the Liverpool penalty area

GT at 2015-02-14 18:41:31

Palace appeal for handball against Skrtel but the Anfield man had now chance of getting his arm out of the way of that one.

Good decision by Bobby to wave away those penalty appeals.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:38:41

Players are slipping and sliding around on a heavily watered pitch.

That could make life tricky for the referee as he has to decide upon intent when contact is made amongst the players.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:35:55

Another simple foul for Madley to spot and give.

This time it goes to Liverpool.

Those are nice ‘game-settlers’ for referees.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:33:32

Less than a minute played and Bobby Madley spots Henderson pulling back his opponent.

He was lucky to escape a caution.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:31:46

Palace take the kick-off and get us underway…

GT at 2015-02-14 18:28:43

Late change on the assistants as Mike Mullarkey has taken over from John Brooks.

GT at 2015-02-14 18:24:29

It’s almost time for kick-off at Selhurst Park…

GT at 2015-02-14 18:08:13

As for our referees today, the promising Robert ‘Bobby’ Madley takes centre stage, with John Brooks and Harry Lennard running his lines. Mike Jones is, thankfully, fourth official.

29 year old Madley is one of the Select Group’s youngsters and received his first top flight appointment from fellow Yorkshireman and Select Group Referees’ Chief Mike Riley in 2013. Bobby hit the headlines on that first appointment as he sent off three players.

Madley recently suffered the wrath of Newcastle boss, John Carver, after the official failed to award the Magpies a last minute penalty when Southampton’s Jose Fonte handled the ball.

The Yorkshire referee will be hoping for a much quieter game today, and will be looking for support from the two assistants Lennard and Brooks.

Let’s hope that post-match this one is being spoken about for all the right reasons and the game develops into the classic cup-tie we all wish for.

GT at 2015-02-14 17:58:32

Hi everyone and welcome to the second of today’s FA Cup live Refcam commentary games.

This one is a potential upset for the highly-fancied Liverpool, who travel to Crystal Palace for this fifth round tie.

Eagles’ boss Alan Pardew will be hoping for history to repeat itself as it is 25 years since his headed winner put Palace through against a Liverpool side who were chasing the League and Cup double back in 1990.

Both sides come into today’s clash with identical records over their past five games across all competitions – played 5; won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1.

The hosts have enjoyed a renaissance since Pardew took over last month, and can look back on a positive result the last time these two met when it ended 3-1 to Palace.

However, Liverpool are also rejuvenated and their supporters are once again enjoying the slick passing football they have been used to from Reds’ sides over the years. There is, of course, the added desire to win this year’s FA Cup for their departing captain, Steven Gerrard, who will move to the USA in the summer, and whose birthday also happens to fall on the day of this year’s final.

And in a season which has seen many of the fancied sides (Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs, etc) already exit the competition, who would bet against the Anfield men achieving that goal?

Something has to give though, so will it be the Eagles of London who fly towards the Wembley arch, or will the Merseyside Giants conquer all before them?

Sit back and enjoy our YATR commentary on this one. It promises to be a cracker of a cup tie.
