There can be no doubt that the game was brought to safe and successful conclusion by the match officials was no controversy to speak about, just what the referee and his team would have wished for at kick-off.

In summary:

  • In the high-profile world of the Premier League, full marks, for the second week running here on RefCam, to Bobby Madley for a sound and solid refereeing performance – once again, there was much to admire.

  • The referee’s 1st minute contribution, when he played an excellent advantage which led to the opening goal, will have given the referee confidence for the rest of the game. His cautions were all justified and well timed in the context of the game

  • What is often forgotten post-match is the contribution of the Assistant Referees. Marc Perry and Adrian Holmes Bennet both gave credible displays to back up Bobby Madley  and their low-key performances were a major plus.

3 additional minutes to be played.

AH at 2017-04-09 17:48:22

Once again, great positioning as Bobby Madley could not be better placed to judge as Lukaku falls in the penalty area, the goal-kick is the correct decision, again!

83

AH at 2017-04-09 17:42:59

Commendable sprinting through the centre circle as Everton develop a fast break forward, and he does equally well to move into the penalty area as Leicester attack - proving good stamina levels in the closing stages of the game

AH at 2017-04-09 17:37:21

As a neutral I would like to see Leicester get a goal back, which would make the last 15 minutes very interesting.  I don't think Bobby Madley and his team would thank me for that - they would just want the game to conclude with no controversy.

Yellow Card#EVELEI Bobby Madley successfully carrying on from where he left off last week - King offends with a late challenge, advantage applied, referee cautions King when the ball next goes out of play. Great to see !!!

60

AH at 2017-04-09 17:21:04

It looks like Leicester have one eye on the Champions League midweek game as Vardy is replaced.

57

AH at 2017-04-09 17:19:01

GOAL! Lukaku continues the goal-fest and scores his second, Everton's fourth, of the afternoon as the Foxes fail to defend a corner.

#EVELEI One particular point to note is the way in which every decision is given from a credible position, leading to accuracy and therefore gaining the respect of the players ….

48

AH at 2017-04-09 17:09:18

In fairness to the players, although the foul count has been fairly standard for a Premier League game (10 so far), overall the players discipline has been good so far, let's hope it stays that way and the referee and his team can remain 'low-profile'

46

AH at 2017-04-09 17:06:24

The second half gets underway, here's hoping for 5 more goals in this half !

Half Time

Lots to admire so far about Bobby Madley's performance so far.  2 early advantages which led to goals and asserting his authority when Huth and Mirallas stepped out of line - so far, so good for the Yorkshireman on his team

45+4

Half Time Half-time - 5 goals and 3 yellow cards - so far, so good for Bobby Madley and this team

Yellow CardBaines earns himself the 3rd yellow of the game as we approach half-time, once again, nothing wrong with the decision,

41

AH at 2017-04-09 16:42:45

GOAL! Jakielka rises above a static Leicseter defence to establish the Home Team's 3 - 2 lead !

40

AH at 2017-04-09 16:40:13

Just 5 minutes to go and for the main part, the referee has been allowed to be low-profile.  He must be aware that busier times lie-ahead in this game.

#EVELEI @hpggyref 4 goals and 2 yellow cards here at Goodison - it's been a quiet afternoon so far !

28

AH at 2017-04-09 16:30:45

Yellow CardYellow CardMirallas and Huth get involved in a game of "my Dad is bigger then your Dad" and Bobby Madley has the first challenge to his authority of the afternoon.  Two yellow cards is the correct call for me !

23

AH at 2017-04-09 16:26:12

GOAL! Lukaku coverts a Barclay quality cross to restore parity.  The match officials will be loving this as the attention will be on the goals - if players wish to play - let them play !

Although we have had 3 goals inside the first 15 minutes, the game has not yet developed any sort of pattern - the match officials allows prefer being able to read the game and adjust their positions accordingly

12

AH at 2017-04-09 16:13:45

Everton 1 - Leicester 2 - Madley 2 - wow !!

9

AH at 2017-04-09 16:12:37

GOAL! #EVELEI This is bonkers - 3 goals inside 9 minutes as Robles shows some Sunday morning goalkeeping skills - allowing Alrbighton tp score directly from a free-kick close the touchline.

Here we go - good luck to the Refereeing team .....

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-04-09 15:58:10

One feature of Bobby Madley’s refereeing at Swansea last weekend was his ability to apply the advantage clause and then return to the offence and caution.  He did this on 3 occasions, showing confidence in his own ability and solid judgement – let’s see if he gets the opportunity to do so today.

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-04-09 15:54:46

Bobby Madley is the man in charge today, Marc Perry and Ady Holmes provide the on the field support, Paul Tierney has the 4th official duties.  I am very much an admirer of Bobby Madley, having watched him referee on numerous occasions as he progressed through the semi-professional leagues here in the UK.  He combines a good degree of Yorkshire common sense with a keen sense of humour, and tons of refereeing ability, and he has done extremely well to establish himself as a highly respected Premier League referee.

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-04-09 15:47:30

It is safe to say that there have been some poor performances recently, and don’t get me started with regard to penalty kick retakes at Newcastle, there has been enough said on that subject.  However, overall, the Select Group have made amends this weekend, with Anthony Taylor performing commendably and Chris Kavanagh having a good Premier League debut at the Hawthorns.

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-04-09 15:43:52

The resurgence of the Away Team has been one of the stories of the 2nd half of the season, let’s see how they go today, perhaps they will have one eye on the Champions League quarter-final in midweek.
