My Overall Summary – A 9 goal thriller at Goodison Park with Chelsea winning 3-6. The Referee Jon Moss has played an excellent advantage for Chelsea in the1st minute and the Chelsea first goal is onside – good non flag from AR Ron Ganfield. The Chelsea 2nd goal – No2 of Chelsea is offside when the ball is played to him by a Chelsea player, this is a difficult judgement for the Assistant Ron Ganfield as the No2 of Chelsea is moving back from an offside position. However, he still offside when the ball is played to him. This is a Key Match Incident Error. Replays at half time showed that Tim Howard of Everton was outside of his defending penalty area when he handled and collected the ball. Therefore, it should have been a free kick to Chelsea and a red card to Tim Howard of Everton. I was not sure of the position of the Assistant Ron Ganfield in respect of this judgement but he should have been in a position to make this judgement on the edge of the penalty area and advise the referee of a red card for Tim Howard of Everton for denying to Chelsea an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Key Match Incident incorrect judgement. There was also the Costa offside judgement which was incorrect later in the first half as mentioned in my BLOG. The referee Jon Moss throughout the game has played good advantages and overall managed the players in this enthralling game. However, following the Chelsea goal to make it 1-3 Tim Howard of Everton should have received a red card for violent conduct for his reaction by racing out of his goal area and grabbing hold of in a violent manner a Chelsea Player by his neck shirt. He only received a yellow card for this offence why? so Tim Howard of Everton has committed 2 red card offences in this game and has only received 1 yellow card?

Chelsea score to make it 1-3 Coleman own goal. Tim Howard has then run and grabbed hold of a Chelsea player by the scruff of his neck shirt. The referee shows him a yellow card. Whereas he should have been shown a red card for violent conduct.
AM at 2014-08-30 18:53:47
No 10 of Everton incorrectly flagged offside by AR Ganfield when he was onside when then ball was played to him. No7 of Chelsea yellow card shown and the spray is out, free kick to Everton
AM at 2014-08-30 18:51:06
Goal kick awarded to Chelsea, with Naismith of Everton claiming a free kick the referee is some way behind play and has awarded a goal kick to Chelsea, a closer view here would have added to his judgement in this situation
AM at 2014-08-30 18:48:17
Further corner kick to Everton awarded and this is cleared by Chelsea
AM at 2014-08-30 18:47:31
Free Kick to Everton the tempo of the game has risen following the Costa Yellow card. All Match Officials will need to be fully focussed to keep in control of matters. Free kick to Everton awarded, corner kick to Everton correctly awarded.

The referee blows his whistle to commence the 2nd half
AM at 2014-08-30 18:34:43
Half time Summary – The referee Jon Moss has played an excellent advantage for Chelsea and the Chelsea first goal is onside – good non flag from AR Ron Ganfield.
Chelsea 2nd goal No2 of Chelsea is offside when the ball is played to him by a Chelsea player, this is a difficult judgement for the Assistant Ron Ganfield as the No2 of Chelsea is moving back from an offside position and is he still offside when the ball is played to him. However this is a key match error.
Replays have just shown that Tim Howard was outside of his defending penalty area when he collected the ball outside of his penalty area. Therefore it should have been a free kick to Chelsea and a red card to Tim Howard of Everton at the time I thought the Assistant Ron Ganfield was in the best position to make this judgement, however replays and analysis from a side view show that Tim Howard had handled outside of his penalty area and therefore should have received a red card. Key Match incorrect judgement. There was also the Costa offside judgement which was incorrect later in the first half as mentioned in my BLOG.
The referee Jon Moss has played good advantages and managed the game well in the first half. The 3 big Key Match Incidents Involve the Assistant Near Side Ron Ganfield
AM at 2014-08-30 18:19:28
The referee Jonathan Moss blows his whistle for half time, what an exciting half with plenty of talking points to discuss
AM at 2014-08-30 18:17:01
2 minutes added time – Everton 11 scores at a key time to pull a goal back to make it 1-2, what a crucial time to score!
AM at 2014-08-30 18:15:39
Diego Costa Chelsea is then incorrectly flagged offside by AR Ron Ganfield. When the ball is played forward to him by a Chelsea player he is level with the 2nd rearmost Everton defender. The Assistant looked to be in the correct position = it is just the judgement made that is incorrect in this situation.
AM at 2014-08-30 18:11:37
Everton 10 correctly flagged offside by AR Simon Long
AM at 2014-08-30 18:10:56
A throw in is correctly awarded to Chelsea following the ball last being play out of play by an Everton player. Good position is adopted by the referee
AM at 2014-08-30 18:07:50
The referee is keeping a good distance between himself and his active Assistant as Everton move forward in play
AM at 2014-08-30 18:05:19

I will summarise the 2nd Chelsea goal which was offside in more detail at half time
AM at 2014-08-30 18:00:29
11 Everton late on 4 Chelsea no free kick awarded by the referee he could have been unsighted in his position viewing in and then a free kick is awarded to Chelsea
AM at 2014-08-30 17:57:38
Another corner kick to Everton as they press to pull a goal back
AM at 2014-08-30 17:56:54
A good non flag offside from AR Simon Long and from this a corner kick is awarded to Everton
AM at 2014-08-30 17:55:02
Free kick awarded to Chelsea following a reckless challenge by the No 18 of Everton. A yellow card for the No 18 of Everton would have been correct in this situation but no card is shown by the referee.
AM at 2014-08-30 17:51:48
Advantage to Everton the referee just showed a slight delay and this allowed the advantage signal to be applied, good refereeing here
AM at 2014-08-30 17:48:52
Free kick to Everton foul by No 2 of Chelsea
AM at 2014-08-30 17:48:19
Corner kick to Everton goal is scored excellent flag for offside and then the goal is correctly ruled out as Distin was in an offside position when the ball came back to him off the Chelsea defending crossbar. Excellent flag from Assistant Simon Long
AM at 2014-08-30 17:45:52
In the first 12 minutes we have had 3 key match incidents for the Assistants and this is where you have to be switched on from the start. Ron Ganfield nearside has had 2 key match incidents – 1 offside correct = goal and 1 incorrect = goal. Simon Long has had 2 offside situations = 1 correct and I judgement incorrect when the ball was last played forward by a Chelsea player.
AM at 2014-08-30 17:41:29
Free kick to Chelsea the referee is using his time to speak to the Everton Player, good man management is seen here, he is using his time
AM at 2014-08-30 17:40:17
Tim Howard Everton Goal keeper collects the ball close to his penalty area. Assistant Ron Ganfield on the nearside touchline should be in the best position to make this judgement.
AM at 2014-08-30 17:38:36
Everton player incorrectly flagged offside by Technical Area Assistant Simon Long as the ball was last played by a Chelsea player
AM at 2014-08-30 17:36:23
Chelsea score their 2nd goal scored by No 2 – there is a tight offside decision and replays would appear to indicate that the No2 of Chelsea was offside when the ball was played
AM at 2014-08-30 17:34:18
Free kick to Everton correctly awarded by the Referee
AM at 2014-08-30 17:33:16
Early excellent advantage played by the referee Jonathan Moss and the ball is then played forward to Diego Costa to score Chelsea`s first goal with an excellent non flag for offside by Assistant Referee
AM at 2014-08-30 17:30:24
The Referee Jonathan Moss blows his whistle to signal the kick off

In the last corresponding meeting played between these 2 Teams at Goodison Park on Saturday 14th September 2013 Everton beat Chelsea 1-0 with the only goal being scored by Steven Naismith in the 45th minute.
There were 4 yellow cards shown by the referee in this game all to Chelsea Players with Everton having 43% possession of the ball and Chelsea having the greater possession of the ball with 57%.
