Commentary By: Mark Halsey

FINAL SCORE: 0 - 1

Terrific performance by Burnley, Everton will be very disappointed but Jon Moss will be very pleased with his performance as I am. He is bringing more consistency into his performances. Jon showed 4 yellow cards all justified. What also impressed me was Jon’s recognition of careless and reckless and his man management. He was well assisted by his assistants. Excellent display by the match officials well done!!!!  I will now hand you over to Andy Hogg for Newcastle V Liverpool. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

MH at 2017-10-01 16:07:07

Burnley win 1-0.

MH at 2017-10-01 16:06:38

Full Time

MH at 2017-10-01 16:05:36

Everton appeal for a penalty, well done Jon. The ball hit the defenders chest.

MH at 2017-10-01 16:03:29

There will be a minimum of 4 minutes added time.

MH at 2017-10-01 16:02:45

Substitution for Burnley. B13 OFF, B10 ON.

MH at 2017-10-01 16:01:56

Everton manager not happy with decision, Jon goes over to explain to him. Good to see Jon manage that situation.

MH at 2017-10-01 16:00:48

Correct decision in my opinion not to give handball and a penalty kick to Everton as the ball came off E10’s head onto B2’s hand.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:59:01

This will be my last refcam for a few weeks as on 11th October I will be climbing @ you-are-the-ref Kilimanjaro challenge in support of the Steve Prescott foundation raising money to help people fight cancer.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:54:17

Substitution for Everton, E19 OFF, E9 ON.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:53:36

Everton just don’t look like scoring today.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:52:31

A tough decision as to whether it was a corner or goal kick, if in doubt always go defenders ball and that’s what Jon Moss has done.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:50:25

Another corner to Everton.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:48:22

It’s pleasing to see Jon’s awareness of what is going on around him is very good, he’s also being proactive in speaking with the players at every opportunity which keeps the players calm.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:46:13

Corner to Everton.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:44:33

Talking from experience E10 will be in the ear of Jon Moss at every opportunity.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:43:30

Well done Jon Moss tried to play advantage after a foul on B13, no advantage so Jon brought the play back.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:42:10

Substitution for Everton, E26 ON, E27 OFF.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:39:47

Good non flag for offside by assistant Andy Halliday.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:38:50

Good save by the Everton keeper.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:36:58

You can be sure the tempo of the game will go up with the introduction of Wayne Rooney.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:35:51

Substitution for Everton, E2 OFF, E10 ON.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:33:36

It’s important you should never turn your back on play.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:32:48

It’s pleasing to see Jon keeping his eye on the goalkeeper till he has released the ball to set up a quick counter attack.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:31:07

Yellow CardE3 for a reckless challenge, correctly cautioned. Well done Jon.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:30:14

If that’s not a foul it should be a corner. Assistant Eddie Smart has to help Jon Moss out there.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:24:07

As I said before it’s important that the referee come out for the second half fully focused and it’s clear that Jon has done that after the reckless challenge by E29 on B23. Well done Jon.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:22:14

Yellow CardE29 for a reckless challenge, correct decision.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:20:54

Tune in to tomorrow’s ref show for all the talking points over the weekend. With Alan Biggs, Carlton Palmer and myself.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:19:12

As I said a good first half for Jon, he will have to remain fully focused and his concentration levels at a high so he doesn’t miss anything.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:17:16

Burnley to get the second half underway.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:06:42

Not a difficult first half for Jon Moss  but that’s how you want it as a referee and you can only referee what is in front of you. He has missed nothing of note. Let’s hope the second half goes just as well.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:02:56

Half Time

MH at 2017-10-01 15:02:23

A minimum of 1 minute added time.

MH at 2017-10-01 15:01:17

B37 goes down to easy Jon decides to caution for simulation and you cannot criticise him for that. This is a disease that is still in the game perhaps stronger punishments are needed.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:58:39

Yellow CardB37.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:55:31

Yellow CardB16. Looks like he was cautioned for dissent

MH at 2017-10-01 14:54:32

Pleasing to see Jon picking up all the small free kicks as that is so important because if you don’t players get frustrated with your decision making and take the law into their own hands.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:52:24

Following this game we have @ 4:30 Newcastle V Liverpool where your referee coach will be Andy Hogg.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:50:13

The players discipline is very good at present and as a referee that is just how you like it.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:45:02

Once again Jon taking up an excellent position at the corner kick as he has got all the players in view allowing him to pick up any holding offence if it occurs.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:40:07

Generally when a goal is scored the tempo of the game goes up and Jon will have to make sure that if that happens he will have to go up with it.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:38:33

Burnley going 1-0 up adds to Evertons anguish as they are 16th in the Premier League table and not had the start they were hoping for.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:36:33

GOAL!B13

MH at 2017-10-01 14:35:46

Jon has a funny running style but fair play he is keeping up with play and giving himself good viewing angles.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:33:58

The game is low tempo at present, Jon not being fussy and letting the game flow.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:33:00

Pleasing to see Jon managing that free kick by talking to E19.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:31:16

Free kick correctly given to Burnley.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:29:29

Jon’s positioning is very central, that’s why he got hit with the ball early on.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:26:24

Good tackle by B5, Jon Moss on the spot.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:25:38

Free kick to Burnley correct decision.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:23:38

Ball hits Jon Moss, he needs to get a bit wider and keep his eye on the ball.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:22:23

First shot of the game, good save by the Burnley keeper.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:21:30

I like Jon’s starting position just in front of the D for the corner kick, so he can see everything that is going on in the danger zone.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:19:15

First corner of the game to Burnley.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:15:31

Everton to get us underway.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:13:55

Jon Moss has had a good start to the season and he will have to continue that good start today as Goodison Park is one of the most hostile grounds in the Premier League.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:11:02

The teams are in the tunnel.

MH at 2017-10-01 14:06:26
