RCT at 2015-06-17 22:58:59

These are 2 errors which should not occurr at this level – there were plenty of good refereeing attributes, but I think the Referee will be somewhat disappointed when she reviews the replays

Full TimeRCT at 2015-06-17 22:56:17

Full Time

Overall a solid performance from the Referee, but in our opinion she let herself down by incorrect award of the penalty to England in the first-half and the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity in the closing stages.

90+3RCT at 2015-06-17 22:53:47

This is now going to be an interesting last minuteGOAL!

85RCT at 2015-06-17 22:50:12

Yellow Cardfor Sepulveda, however was the card the correct colour ? In our opinion, the Columbian goal-keeper should have been dismissed for denying a clear goal-scoring  opportunity.

81RCT at 2015-06-17 22:40:36

In fairness to the players, they have been well behaved and have not made issues for the Refereeing team

76RCT at 2015-06-17 22:35:41

Keep going . keep going – keep going ……………..

70RCT at 2015-06-17 22:28:40

This is key phase of the game, it’s still tense, strict control needed, also being aware of potential time-wasting tactics of England.

63RCT at 2015-06-17 22:24:18

Right on queue – Scott reckless challenge gets what it deserves Yellow Card

63RCT at 2015-06-17 22:23:26

The game is getting ‘tetchy’ and disjointed – time for the Referee to ‘kill the game’ for 10 minutes  – perhaps some cautions are required ?

60RCT at 2015-06-17 22:18:38

60 minutes gone and no issues so far in this half for the refereeing team.  This is just what the referee needed after the incorrect award which led to the 2nd goal.

52RCT at 2015-06-17 22:11:51

My money is on more goals in this game ……

46RCT at 2015-06-17 22:07:11

Here we go for the second-half ….. I envisage that the Colombian team will be frustrated and their discipline could be lost. Time for the Referee and her team to retain tight control for the first 15 minutes.

Half Time@2wheels04 has tweeted his opinions on this, we believe that the award was ‘harsh’

RCT at 2015-06-17 21:58:56

Half Time

Our opinion here at ‘You Are The Ref’ is that the penalty decision was incorrect – remembering the word ‘deliberate’ in Law.

During half-time, why not read Keith Hackett’s blogs which in the recent weeks have covered numerous subjects, ranging from comments and opinions on breaking news at the top, to basic educational pieces aimed at improving the standard of referees at all levels. All these blogs, are still available now at Hackett’s Blog

Let us have your views on the penalty award – ball to hand. intent ?  What was your view of the  incident? Let us know your thoughts by tweeting us @youaretheref

Half Time

There was also the strange ‘change of mind’ in the closing minute which looked untidy and uncertain, in marked contrast to the positivity of the other 44 minutes.

Half TimeRCT at 2015-06-17 21:49:26

Half Time

Half-time summary, a good solid performance so far, totally in control.  A combination of work-rate and reading the game means that she is invariably well placed to make accurate decisions. One talking point was the penalty award, but what is not in doubt was the convincing manner in which the award was given and the defenders ushered away with authority.

44RCT at 2015-06-17 21:45:41

That was a strange incident, did the referee change her mind and award the decision to Colombia, nearing in mind Arias (#17) has already been cautioned ?

38RCT at 2015-06-17 21:40:50

So, let’s have your thoughts on the penalty award. Intent by Arias? Could the Colombian #17 moved her arms out of the way? I can see why the award was made and Arias is awarded a yellow card

Yellow Card

36RCT at 2015-06-17 21:38:23

GOAL! 2-0 to England, penalty awarded for handball – dispatched with ease by Williams

34RCT at 2015-06-17 21:36:17

Yellow CardUsme getting what she deserved – the challenge was reckless…….

30RCT at 2015-06-17 21:32:19

Good speed / endurance by the Referee, sprinting full length as the England team break quickly

28RCT at 2015-06-17 21:28:37

Stellar positioning as Rincon offends and Carol Chenard is well placed to award the penal offence

25RCT at 2015-06-17 21:25:53

Don’t think the referee Carol Chehard is a natural athlete in terms of her movement, however she reads the game so well and always seem to be well placed. An excellent example for any referee learning the game, and those of us who have been doing this for a while now …….

21RCT at 2015-06-17 21:23:19

Good teamwork, clear signal by the Assistant – correct decision …..

17RCT at 2015-06-17 21:19:36

Our opinion say the referee called it right – was there intent by the Gaitan to handle the ball, bearing in mind the distance the ball travelled ….

16RCT at 2015-06-17 21:17:45

Interesting call – penalty or not ? What was your views incident? Let us know your thoughts by tweeting us @youaretheref

15RCT at 2015-06-17 21:15:42

GOAL!  1-0 to the Lionesses – fully deserved

15RCT at 2015-06-17 21:15:01

One thing that strokes me so far about the Referee is her presence.  Confident, correct judgements, given with authority.

10RCT at 2015-06-17 21:12:00

Did the Colombian goalkeeper make the most of that challenge ?

7RCT at 2015-06-17 21:07:54

Still no major decisions for the refereeing team so far – keep focuses ladies – it’s going well so far

3RCT at 2015-06-17 21:03:21

A fast, open start to the game ……

Well that’s set the tone, is Vinnie Jones’s sister playing for Colombia? Let’s see what unfolds ……

RCT at 2015-06-17 20:55:32

According to England’s Carney, we could be in for an ‘interesting’ evening. She says of Colombia, “They are a typical South American team,” said Carney, who scored in England’s 2-1 win over Mexico. “They will be flamboyant, they will be in your faces, they will kick and foul you, they will break up play and frustrate you. That’s their gameplan.”

RCT at 2015-06-17 20:52:20

Interesting news from the Professional Game governing body for match officials in England, the PGMO, who have announced a series of pre-season training seminars for match officials to tighten up on the manner in which the Technical Area is controlled from the start of season 15/16.  Comparing what happens in England, where it can resemble a school playground of teenage squabbling and offence language, to FIFA where the occupants behave professionally, something needed to be done.  It could be a very interesting first weeks of the season for the 4th official at several Premier League and Football League grounds.

RCT at 2015-06-17 20:47:51

Our blogger Guy Beale commented “It has been a long time since I have commentated on a referee who has displayed such an outstanding skill of reading the game. She seems to be moving into positions before the play gets there all the time.”  She was outstanding, and let’s hope Carol Chennard from Canada has an equally good game this evening.

Pre-MatchRCT at 2015-06-17 20:46:44

What do you think of the Refereeing so far at the Women’s World Cup?  In my opinion the standards were set by New Zealand’s Anne-Marie Keighley throughout the England v Mexico match, which was covered here on RefCam.

RCT at 2015-06-17 20:42:40

What are your thoughts on the quality of the football seen so far at the Women’s World Cup?  There can be little doubt that the standards have increased 10-fold over the past few seasons, and although it lacks the physicality of the men’s game, the skill levels are high and technically it’s good to watch.  We were discussing this issues with a coach at a Football League club who informed us that his Under 17 and Under 19 teams are now playing evenly-matched practice matches against his Women’s team, which shows how much the game has progressed.

RCT at 2015-06-17 20:40:18

The team of match officials this evening are all Canadian, led by Carol Anne Chenard. Marie Charbonneau will operate on the technical area line, with Suzanne Morisset on the far side.  Fourth Official duties lie with Michelle Pye .

Pre-MatchRCT at 2015-06-17 20:38:01

England need to win the game to be certain of progressing to the last 16, a draw will be enough for their opponents this evening.
