Thanks for tuning in, and join us again on Saturday, or will it be Vardy-day, for our coverage of Leicester City v Manchester United, KO 5.30pm
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:56:56
Pretty much the complete performance by referee Martin Atkinson – an object lesson on now to gain and retain match control – all 4 cautions in a 15 minute spell asserted his authority – his match control was never in doubt
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:54:09
yet again …. another correct decision to add to the catalogue of correct decisions …

Yet another correct decision to add to the catalogue of correct decisions …
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:46:09
Just 3 to go – probably 5 or 6 minutes additional time, allowing for the goal celebration and the substitutes, plus Defoe’s injury
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:40:19
Defoe pinches a goal from nowhere – that’s going to make the final 10 minutes interesting ….
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:34:31
Still no break in the stalemate – when does Sunderland’s time ‘consuming’ become time ‘wasting’ – my 50 pence is on a caution for Pantilimon
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:31:00
4 yellow cards in a 15 minute spell, none of them debatable, a testament to Martin Atkinson’s ability to tempo manage the game, i.e. become involved when he needs to, keeps out of at when he can, let’s see what the final 20+ minutes bring…
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:27:03
A second yellow in quick succession, this time fpr M’Villa, no arguments again from the player in question
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:25:23
yet again great positional sense by the referee as Scott Dann gets the caution he deserves ….
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:22:29
Could it be that Sunderland have settled for a point already, if so this heightens the involvement of the refereeing team as it becomes one way traffic – but I am not getting that impression over the last 5 minutes or so ….
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:18:33
2 Sunderland subs enter the fray, they need to change something to get into the game …..
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:15:50
Not sure what Defoe is complaining about – rank stupidity leads to the second yellow card of the game
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:12:32
reckless by Jones – fully deserved caution – a good chance for the referee to assert his authority in the early stages of the second-half.
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:05:03
Here we go for the second 45 …………
RCT at 2015-11-23 22:02:26
This Saturday sees him appointed to Aston Villa v Watford which will not be the easiest game on the schedule – what;s your opinion of his ability – let us know by tweeting us @youaretheref
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:59:15
Interesting question form Daniel Wyatt @wyattmessi11 re the performances of Lee Mason. In our opinion he has vast amounts of experience at Premier League level, but there always seems a doubt about his ability and, to quote one of our colleagues “there seems a mistake in him every game”
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:55:13
It is very quiet on twitter – let us know your thoughts on any matters refereeing @youaretheref
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:53:13
Well – 47 minutes of football, 10 fouls, 2 shots on target, no cards, no goals – just one debatable offside decision, a quiet day at the office so far – invariably a recipe for a hum-dinger of a second half when we’ll have 7 yellows, 4 reds, 6 goals, dog on the pitch, cross-bar breaking, floodlight failure ….. we’ll see.
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:45:02
We have to admire Martin Atkinson’s work-rate and he reads the game so well, resulting in optimum positions being achieved on most occasions.
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:42:41
Martin Atkinson is no Pawson or Taylor when it comes to fitness or speed, but he is always there or there abouts, well positioned again to call the foul against Defoe …
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:39:57
Not wishing to tempt fate or pigeon-hole any players, but this just needs on Catermole-esque challenge to light the blue touch-paper just before half-time … keep focused gents
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:37:17
Mmmm – incorrect offside call by Dave Bryan – Wickham was behind the ball as it was played marginally forward …
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:34:32
Talk about calm and collected, Martin Atkinson gives me the impression that he is out for a Sunday afternoon jog in the park near his Leeds home with his dog in tow (I am not sure if he has a dog, but you know what I mean)
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:30:56
30 minutes gone, 1 shot on target, 7 fouls and 1 offside, nothing to get the pulse racing at all ……
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:25:50
Martin Atkinson showing his great positional sense, which is the hallmark of his game, correctly deciding that the challenge on Defoe was outside the penalty area ….
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:20:18
20 minutes gone and just one shot on target, boy oh boy do we need a goal ,,,,,
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:17:33
Good refereeing, Martin Atkinson does not hesitate to stop play for head injuries – correct at any level of the game …..
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:16:21
As the game continues to develop, let us know which referee, in your opinion, who is the best performing in the league and who is the best prospect for the future – Anthony Taylor scores highly in my book, but what you think. Let us know @youaretheref
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:13:24
Better quality from Sunderland, but still no end product …..
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:11:53
The game so far is lacking 2 things, pattern and bite, the latter will be music to the ears of the refereeing team as they look to settle into the game, all’s well so far. The quality of the match is poor though, no shots on target in the first 10 minutes.
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:07:44
Don’t forget, let us know your thoughts by tweeting us @youaretheref
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:05:58
The atmosphere feels quiet tense in the early stages, no dramas so far for Martin and his team in the first 5 minutes …..
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:01:06
Good luck to the refereeing team …………
RCT at 2015-11-23 21:00:08
Football United – it’s great to see …………………
RCT at 2015-11-23 20:59:08
A respectful mark yet again for the victims of the Paris disaster ……….

Carl Boyson’s performance is referenced on the latest episode of The Ref Show – review this at http://you-are-the-ref.com/videos/
RCT at 2015-11-23 20:50:32
Our thanks to Mark Hope @owls_4life for his twitter input, in spite of a 3-1 victory to his team Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend, he was not pleased with referee Carl Boyeson at Hillsborough. What do you think, let us know by tweeting us @youaretheref
RCT at 2015-11-23 20:45:36
So, the potential nature of the fixture has led to the appointment of 3 very experienced on-filed match officials, with Martin Atkinson in charge, supported by Peter Kirkup and Dave Bryan. First year Select Group referee Graham Scott continues to build his experience with the 4th official duties.
RCT at 2015-11-23 20:42:42
So, onto this evening’s game – probably not the most glamorous fixture of the Premier League weekend, but a key one in terms of league positions and, in blunt terms, this will “need refereeing”
RCT at 2015-11-23 20:39:56
Our own Keith Hackett sums up[ our views in his article on our website at http://you-are-the-ref.com/keith-hackett-premier-league-referees-improving/. Whilst waiting for the match to start, why not visit our website and give us your views by tweeting us @youaretheref

Although there have been some minor controversies over the weekend, here at You Are The Ref, we believe that the overall picture in terms of the standard of refereeing in the Premiership has improved since this time last season
