Full time Summary –
Anthony Taylor has overall managed this first high profile event very well and he will not be the main focus of attention following his refereeing performance today.
I mentioned at half time that Dier could have received a 2nd yellow if the incident on Costa had been seen. Costa maybe could have received a yellow card?. However for me Anthony Taylor has raised his game today and put in a performance which shows that he is bouncing back strongly as a referee with real future credentials as one of our top 5 referees.
His main strengths were his fitness – This game was built on his fitness, movement and acceleration right throughout this game, he got into some excellent viewing angles and close proximity to play particularly for those potential key match incidents, with the wet conditions that prevailed in the 2nd half. His work rate created a good foundation for good management and his management of players particularly Costa aided his disciplinary control overall.
5 yellow cards aided his match control and were used as part of his armoury to manage this game effectively and without controversary.
Both ARs gave good support with all offside`s their key area being correct and well judged whether awarded or not. Good support seen on free kicks. Dave Bryan indicated a free kick which led to the Chelsea 1st goal in the first half.
4th Official Craig Pawson was supportive and low key which would have been just what AT would have wanted.
Well done Anthony Taylor for the way that you planned, managed and led your team today!

Chelsea sub 19 off 11 on as Diego Costa leaves the field of play, the goal helped to settle him down and AT has overall managed him well, yes, you may say he could have received a yellow card but for me AT has managed him well and this has been to the benefit of this game

AM at 2015-03-01 18:20:32
AT correct to give a free kick to Spurs as Costa tangles with a Spurs player. This is preventative as AT quickly moves into the scene of the action.

Free kick to Spurs. Good early spot and award.
AM at 2015-03-01 18:03:05
2nd half is underway..
AM at 2015-03-01 18:00:17
Half Time Summary- Anthony Taylor is showing very good varied pace and acceleration. He has managed the game effectively and will be aware of the players he has got keep an eye and in his view. The late challenge by Dier on Costa was missed by AT and if seen I am sure would have resulted in a 2nd yellow followed by a red to Dier.
Good judgements overall have been seen by AT and effective acceleration has got him into the best viewing positions available to him. Man management has been very good and the 1 yellow card that he has produced was spot on and came at just the right time. Dier will have to be very careful in the 2nd half and Costa will continue I am sure to be involved in different incidents / matters. Good support from both ARs and DB was correct in his flag and free kick which led to the C. goal.

AM at 2015-03-01 17:50:31
Dier 15 makes a late challenge on Costa. No free kick awarded here? did AT have a good view? just crowded in this situation by player movement. Dier will have to be very careful in the 2nd half.
AM at 2015-03-01 17:48:32
From a corner kick to Chelsea. Great save from Llories could have been 2-0

AM at 2015-03-01 17:46:40
Good flag from DB. Foul by Chadli on Ivanovic. AT ensures correct placement of free kick. Goal 1-0. Terry scores for Chelsea
AM at 2015-03-01 17:44:32
Stoppage for an injury to Walker. AT is using his time effectively to have words with players as he looks to keep players on his side and effectively manage. Good use of deadball time. Craig Pawson effective on the touchline as Walker leaves the field of play for the standard laws of the game for re entry.
AM at 2015-03-01 17:41:02
The yellow card came at a good time for AT and he will be pleased with how things have gone so far with good low key support from his ARs
AM at 2015-03-01 17:39:58
AT is creating some really good viewing angles and showing very good acceleration, keep an eye on this key attribute in his game management plan.
AM at 2015-03-01 17:38:19
Will Costa who is heating up and simmering, get through this game without a card?

Corner kick to Spurs, good spot by AT who creates a good angle to view and judge
AM at 2015-03-01 17:34:18
Dier reckless on Costa. Correct. AT has stepped up a gear and this needs to be done. He has tried to keep his cards in his pocket, but has now correctly needed to up his game management and produce a card. Keep an eye on Costa though.
AM at 2015-03-01 17:32:31
Free kick to C. Good flag from Betts
AM at 2015-03-01 17:31:52
Costa involved again with a hand in the face of Bentaleb. No free kick awarded and then Costa involved again. AT had a good view and decided not to award? for me a free kick to Spurs would have been correct here. Preventative is better management at the moment. Costa is simmering and Spurs are reacting to any contact or challenge that he makes.
AM at 2015-03-01 17:27:51
No free kick to C. against Hazard. AT well placed to judge, clear signal and no free kick.
AM at 2015-03-01 17:26:04
Good sideways movement seen from Lee Betts as he remains in line with the 2nd rearmost C. defender.
AM at 2015-03-01 17:23:18
Good preventative free kick to Spurs near the half way line. AT does not try and risk any advantage and correctly gives the free kick with a good positive blast of the whistle. Effective
AM at 2015-03-01 17:21:22
Rose late on Hazard again managed by AT. Spray out by AT. Good restart position from AT. Cahill late on Rose good flag by Dave Bryan. Rose has now been involved in the last 3 fouls – 1 against him and 2 fouls on him, keep an eye on this…..

7 Ramires late on Rose, quietly spoken to by AT GOOD EARLY MANAGEMENT
