That’s all for tonight’s live Refcam at YATR.

Keep with us though as there is lots more live action commentary coming up in the next few days, along with Blogs and competitions.

Keep it educational, and keep it YATR…

GT at 2014-10-21 21:40:33

The Champions League has a new goal scoring record tonight as teams throughout Europe go goal-crazy.

5-0 at Chelsea v NK Maribor.

1-7 at AS Roma v Bayern Munich.

4-3 Schalke v Sporting Lisbon.

0-7 BATE v Shakhtar Donetsk

3-1 for Barcelona v Ajax.

2-2 at CSKA Moscow v Man City.

with four of those games still playing!

GT at 2014-10-21 21:36:12

A very competent and understated performance by our officials tonight.

Shame about the John Terry goal which had an offside in the build-up missed by the Assistant Referee.

That was the only blemish on an otherwise good display from the Dutch officials tonight.

GT at 2014-10-21 21:34:32

And it’s all over at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea cruise to a 6-0 win over NK Maribor of Slovenia.

GT at 2014-10-21 21:33:16

Hazard makes it 6 to Chelsea as we begin 2 minutes of added time.

Credit to the Assistant Referee who correctly judged non-offside in the build up to that one.

GT at 2014-10-21 21:32:01

GT at 2014-10-21 21:28:57

Maintaining his standards, our referee correctly awards a foul against John Terry

GT at 2014-10-21 21:28:07

Just 5 minutes of normal time to go, and our referee should be commended on his first Champions League group phase outing.

He has never been anything but in full control, yet has done so in a very low-key manner, allowing the players to play and the spectators to enjoy the game.

Well done Mr Makkelie

GT at 2014-10-21 21:24:01

Good to see the referee did not see the need to ‘sell’ his decision by needlessly cautioning Suler for the penalty foul.

Yes it was a foul.

No it didn’t warrant a caution.

Well done referee – far too many times referees give yellow cards to try and back up their decisions when they are not warranted

GT at 2014-10-21 21:21:14

Yes, it’s a penalty…

OK – not the biggest of fouls, but as soon as the Maribor man outs his hands on Ivanovic he runs the risk of the referee giving the foul.

UEFA are particularly strong on those type of offences and our referee does not disappoint his employers as he awards the spot kick

GT at 2014-10-21 21:19:15

Hazard puts it away to make it 5-0

GT at 2014-10-21 21:18:42

GT at 2014-10-21 21:17:38

Willian smashes one against the crossbar with a great effort from 25 yards out

GT at 2014-10-21 21:14:46

Tavares is replaced by Mendy as Maribor make their final change.

Meanwhile Solanke replaces Oscar for Chelsea

GT at 2014-10-21 21:12:02

Good advantage played by Makkelie as Chelsea retain possession

GT at 2014-10-21 21:10:48

67 minutes gone and another substitution as the penalty ‘villain’ Ibraimi is replaced by Zahovic for Maribor

GT at 2014-10-21 21:09:39

Oscar almost makes it 5-0 as his shot goes just wide.

Chelsea have been re-woken by that penalty.

Our referee will need to move up with them, and keep with the pace of the game

GT at 2014-10-21 21:07:07

….which is missed by Maribor as Ibraimi hits the post

GT at 2014-10-21 21:06:10

Matic needless;ly runs into an opponent and our referee correctly awards the penalty

GT at 2014-10-21 21:05:30

GT at 2014-10-21 21:02:58

An hour has gone and Chelsea are in total control at 4-0.

How do you think this will end?

How do you think our referee is doing?

GT at 2014-10-21 21:01:41

Matic catches an unfortunate one in the midfield area, but it was completely accidental, as Ake replaces Fabregas for Chelsea

GT at 2014-10-21 21:00:16

Makkelie keeps up his standards as he awards a free kick to Maribor

GT at 2014-10-21 20:59:24

Substitution by Maribor as the luckless Viler is replaced by Vrsic

GT at 2014-10-21 20:58:05

Excellent non-foul recognition by Makkelie there as Chelsea appeal in vain

GT at 2014-10-21 20:57:28

Having missed a chance to pop-in a sitter, Hazard gets a lucky deflection off Viler, and it’s Chelsea 4-0 up after 54 minutes, courtesy of that own goal

GT at 2014-10-21 20:55:45

GT at 2014-10-21 20:55:19

Oscar is fouled, and a free kick correctly awarded to Chelsea

GT at 2014-10-21 20:53:37

A good opening 5 minutes by our referee for the second half.

His positioning is good, and he is still allowing the players to take centre-stage by letting play go on without being fussy

GT at 2014-10-21 20:50:06

I hope that is simply a case of Maribor needing to get bavk up to the pace of the game, and not them coming out to spoil the game by kicking whatever moves

GT at 2014-10-21 20:49:07

and another one quickly follows

GT at 2014-10-21 20:48:49

Foul correctly awarded to Chelsea

GT at 2014-10-21 20:47:35

and the 2nd half is underway

GT at 2014-10-21 20:43:14

Looking back over the first half at Stamford Bridge, Makkelie  needs to remind himself of the great spot he made for the penalty. Perfect placing and concentration led to him making the correct call.

Whilst Assistant 2, Mario Diks, will be upset that he made a poor call in allowing Chelsea’s 3rd goal when Terry was clearly offside, he needs to clear his mind of that and instead remind himself of his excellent judgement which led to Chelsea’s opener

GT at 2014-10-21 20:39:46

The Champions League has gone goal-crazy tonight, as we already have three from Chelsea with 45 minutes still to play.

What about these for other half-time scores though:

AS Roma 0-5 Bayern Munich

BATE 0-6 Shakhtar Donetsk

Barcelona 2-0 Ajax

whilst the CSKA Moscow v Manchester City games ended 2-2 earlier today.

Goals everywhere!

GT at 2014-10-21 20:32:27

and the half time break arrives with Chelsea cruising and our referee team having a superb start to the game, but appear to have been affected since the Terry offside goal was allowed to stand

GT at 2014-10-21 20:31:15

1 minute of added time to go

GT at 2014-10-21 20:30:01

Offside well spotted by Assistant 1 against Maribor

GT at 2014-10-21 20:28:58

Half-time would be welcome for our refereeing team now, as they have become a little less ‘polished’ since that 3rd Chelsea goal.

Just like the two playing teams, they will need to use the break to re-group and re-focus for the 2nd half

GT at 2014-10-21 20:27:26

Ibraimi pushes over John Terry, who may go seeking his own version of justice later for that one.

The referee needs to keep his eye on those two for a while now…

GT at 2014-10-21 20:25:39

Makkelie needs to keep up his work rate as he finds himself a little tangled up in play there….just get a bit wider referee

GT at 2014-10-21 20:22:04

It’s the first time since the 1999/2000 season that Maribor has gone through to the group phase of the Champions League, and I’m afraid that is showing as Chelsea completely dominate this game.

Chelsea are in complete control and look like they could score whenever they wish tonight.

GT at 2014-10-21 20:21:00

Foul correctly awarded to Mirabor as they venture into the Chelsea half

GT at 2014-10-21 20:20:00

That’s a real shame for the referee team tonight, as they had performed well for half an hour.

That will undoubtedly be picked up by the UEFA Referee Observer, Matteo Trefoloni, and will count against the whole team.

It’s a tough old game for officials at this level of football !

GT at 2014-10-21 20:17:49

Chelsea skipper John Terry finds himself in attack (!!) and scores Chelsea’s 3rd of the night.

I’m afraid the Assistant has missed the fact he was offside though, and that one should not stand

GT at 2014-10-21 20:16:24

GT at 2014-10-21 20:15:56

Makkelie will be aware he is spending most of his time in one half of the field of play and that will feel strange to him.

He is officiating superbly well though despite this being his first game in the Champions League group phase

GT at 2014-10-21 20:13:57

Whilst many may believe these are easy games to referee, nothing could be further from the truth.

When one side is dominating so much the referee must work extra hard to ensure the losing side does not become so frustrated they simply kick their opponents.

Often, the more flowing, end-to-end games are the easiest as positioning also takes care of itself as the referee follows the ball

GT at 2014-10-21 20:11:44

Drogba steps over the ball and half appeals for another penalty.

Correctly waived away by Makkelie

GT at 2014-10-21 20:10:49

Foul by Hazard correctly awarded at the half way line

GT at 2014-10-21 20:10:03

Only 23 minutes have gone and the home side is cruising at 2-0.

This could be a very long evening for NK Maribor…

GT at 2014-10-21 20:09:24

Drogba despatches the penalty safely right into the bottom corner, sending the keeper the wrong way

GT at 2014-10-21 20:08:39

GT at 2014-10-21 20:08:23

Absolutely no doubt whatsoever. Mertelj put his hand out and tried to stop the ball going past him

GT at 2014-10-21 20:07:43

GT at 2014-10-21 20:07:26

Goal kick correctly awarded to Mirabor

GT at 2014-10-21 20:07:07

Excellent teamwork from our officials. Makkelie  had no view on that but was well advised by his Assistant Referee and the additional Assistant behind the Mirabor goal

GT at 2014-10-21 20:05:03

More good work from the Assistant Referee, Diks, as he uses the ‘wait and see’ technique to good effect – eventually awarding offside against Chelsea

GT at 2014-10-21 20:03:26

Naughty challenge by Felipe Luis.

He is only spoken to by Makkelie, but could easily have been cautioned.

I don’t think he will get another chance.

GT at 2014-10-21 20:01:53

Remy’s goal has come at personal cost to him though as he leaves the field injured, to be replaced by Chelsea legend Didier Drogba

GT at 2014-10-21 20:00:08

Remy again in the right place at the right time. Super finish into the bottom corner.

Credit to Mario Diks who correctly judged a very tight non-offside in the build up to the goal

GT at 2014-10-21 19:58:41

GT at 2014-10-21 19:58:24

First chance of the game falls to Remy of Chelsea, but he strikes it at the keeper

GT at 2014-10-21 19:56:46

Lovely advantage played there, Makkelie put bis whistle to his mouth but saw Chelsea had kept possession. Good refereeing

GT at 2014-10-21 19:55:52

Only two fouls after 10 minutes.

That is promising for a good, open game for which our referee must also take credit. He’s not over-fussy and is happy to see the players get on with it

GT at 2014-10-21 19:52:03

5 minutes into the game and both sides are being allowed to play by the referee, who is displaying maturity beyond his years in these early stages

GT at 2014-10-21 19:49:19

Good foul recognition by Mr Makkelie as Maribor earn their first free kick

GT at 2014-10-21 19:46:54

15 seconds in and the referee awards the first foul to Chelsea

GT at 2014-10-21 19:46:01

Maribor take the kick-off and get us underway…

GT at 2014-10-21 19:43:35

How do you think this one will go?

What are your thoughts on Danny Makkelie?

GT at 2014-10-21 19:40:15

It’s almost time for kick-off at Stamford Bridge on another special evening of Champions League football.

GT at 2014-10-21 19:27:27

As for our refereeing team tonight….

The English football supporters are being treated well this season as they see another team from the Netherlands take control, following the excellent display by Bjorn Kuipers at Manchester City v AS Roma in matchday 2.

Today’s game sees the impressive Danny Makkelie lead a team which includes Patrick Langkamp (Assistant Referee 1), Mario Diks (Assistant Referee 2), Kevin Blom (Additional Assistant Referee 1), Ed Janssen (Additional Assistant Referee 2) and Rob van de Ven (4th Official).

31 year old Danny joined the FIFA List of Referees in 2011, and one year later we saw him take charge of the final of the 2012 UEFA U-19 Championship between Spain and Greece.

The players and team officials need to take care tonight, as outside of football Danny is a policeman in his home country!

Let’s hope for a fantastic display from all three teams on show tonight, and wish the ball runs kindly for our Dutch colleagues.

GT at 2014-10-21 19:16:25

Hi everyone, and welcome to another live Refcam from You Are The Ref.

We are all looking forward to this one as Chelsea entertain Slovenian side NK Maribor at Stamford Bridge in matchday 3 of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

The hosts opened up with a 1-1 draw at home to Schalke 04, followed by a 0-1 victory away at Sporting Lisbon. Whilst their opponents tonight came through the qualifying stages, and have two points from their opening two drawn group matches against the same opponents as Chelsea.

The expectation will be for the home side to attack from the first minute and seal their place at the top of Group G with another three points against opponents ranked 83 places below them in the official UEFA Rankings.

However, we all know that nothing can be taken for granted, especially at this level of football, and the home side need to guard against complacency.

NK Maribor are a very well organised and disciplined side who have conceded only twice in their Group G fixtures, and overcame Celtic 0-1 (away) to qualify.
